Jorge 5.0 out of 5 stars I finally committed myself to getting my Sport Pilot cert and so i downloaded the PHAK from the FAA and i made a nice big folder with that. Reading was a chore, i would lose interest in reading the PHAK within minutes. In a week im a quarter of the way through this book (this is studying to memorize not just reading) and it is a real pleasure to learn with this book. Rod has laid it in a manner that a kid would pass the knowledge exam after reading it.After reading the first 5 pages i concluded that Rod is a very seasoned and knowledgeable pilot. It's true, he does add a LOT of corny jokes into the mix, but he provides a knowledge base that is thorough and chock full of great memory tips. One of the things that makes Rod an amazing teacher is that he does not just list facts, he explains WHY things are they way they are. He is also a huge proponent of safe flying. I would absolutely recommend this book to anyone starting out for the sport pilot license. There are unnecessary jokes, comments and stories that doesn’t help or support the discussed topic. Some figures are good some others look as if a toddler put them together. What more can I say? Click video icon to left to learn how to access your audiobook files. In addition, it’s an excellent book for helping flight instructors teach their students in a more efficient and effective manner. This book covers simple and complex single-engine airplanes having tricycle landing gear. This is not a comprehensive taildragger handbook. Why should you purchase this book. Many of today’s pilots rely excessively on their panel instruments to control their airplanes in visual conditions. Unfortunately, “panel pilots” never learn to fly the by the seat of their pants, which involves flying skills that primarily depend on sights, sounds and tactile sensations. Simply stated, relying primarily on your panel instruments to fly an airplane won’t make you a confident pilot nor will it make you a safe pilot. That’s why this handbook focuses on the basics of “attitude flying” and developing practical “stick and rudder” flying skills. These are the skills that give you complete control of your airplane and allow you to predict what it will do, can do and cannot do. Contained within these pages are techniques for controlling and evaluating the height and trajectory of your glidepath as well as strategies for managing the roundout and landing flare. You’ll learn how to handle crosswind landings, how to recover from the occasional bad landing, how to perform ground reference maneuvers for both the private and commercial pilot certificate, and much more. You’ll also benefit from Rod Machado’s insights and wisdom gained by teaching pilots for over 40 years. You’ll also laugh as you learn. This handbook contains the information necessary to: - Make your flight training experience easier, less expensive and more enjoyable. - Master all the private and commercial checkride maneuvers. - Learn the “stick and rudder” philosophy of flying an airplane. - Prevent an airplane from accidentally stalling and spinning.www.corwell.co.uk/userfiles/files/came-g-4000-technical-manual.pdf - Allow you to learn to land an airplane quickly and enjoyably. - Give flight instructors additional tools to help them teach more efficiently. Some standard airworthiness certificated aircraft (i.e., a Piper J-2 or J-3) may meet Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulation (14 CFR) 1.1 definition of LSA. Type certificated aircraft that continue to meet the CFR 1.1 definition of LSA allows for that type certificated aircraft to be flown by a pilot who holds a Sport Pilot certificate. The Sport Pilot certificate is discussed later in this chapter. Aircraft that are specifically manufactured for the LSA market are included in either the Special (S-LSA) or Experimental (E-LSA) designations. An approved S-LSA is manufactured in a ready-to-fly condition and an E-LSA is either a kit or plans-built aircraft based on an approved S-LSA model. It is important to note that S-LSAs or E-LSAs are not type certificated by the FAA and are not required to meet any airworthiness requirements of 14 CFR part 23. Instead, S-LSA and E-LSA aircraft are designed and manufactured in accordance with ASTM Committee F-37 Industry Consensus Standards. Therefore, LSA aircraft designs are not subjected to the scrutiny, demands, and testing of FAA standard airworthiness certification. Industry Consensus Standards are intended to be less costly and less restrictive than 14 CFR part 23 certification requirements and, as a result, manufacturers have greater latitude with their designs. ASTM Industry Consensus Standards were accepted by the FAA in 2005, which established for the first time that the FAA accepted industry-developed standards rather than its own standards for the design and manufacture of aircraft. ASTM Industry Consensus Standards for LSA airplanes covers the following areas: Design and performance Required equipment Quality assurance Production acceptance tests Aircraft operating instructions Maintenance and inspection procedures Identification and recording of major repairs and major alterations Continued airworthiness Manufacturers assembly instructions (E-LSA aircraft) Using the ASTM Industry Consensus Standards, an LSA manufacturer can design and manufacture their aircraft and assess its compliance to the consensus standards. The manufacturer then, through evaluation services offered by a designated airworthiness representative, completes the process by submitting the required paperwork to the FAA. Upon approval, an LSA manufacturer is permitted to sell ready-to-fly S-LSA aircraft. LSA Synopsis The airplane must meet the weight, speed, and other criteria as described in this category. Airplanes under the S-LSA certification may be used for sport and recreation, flight training, and aircraft rental. Airplanes under the E-LSA certification may be used only for sport and recreation and flight instruction for the owner of the airplane. E-LSA certification is not the same as Experimental Amateur-Built. E-LSA certification is based on an approved S-LSA airplane. Airplanes with a standard airworthiness type certificate (i.e., a Piper J-2 or J-3) that continue to meet the 14 CFR 1.1 LSA definition may be flown by a pilot with a Sport Pilot certificate. Must have an FAA registration and N-number. United States or foreign manufacturers can be authorized. May be operated at night if the aircraft is equipped per 14 CFR part 91, section 91.205, if night operations are allowed by the airplane’s operating limitations, and the pilot holds at least a Private Pilot certificate and a minimum of a third-class medical. LSAs can be flown by holders of a Sport Pilot certificate or higher level pilot certificate (recreational, private, etc.) Flight Literacy Recommends Rod Machado's Private Pilot Handbook -Flight Literacy recommends Rod Machado's products because he takes what is normally dry and tedious and transforms it with his characteristic humor, helping to keep you engaged and to retain the information longer. Big John 5.0 out of 5 stars I am very pleased with my thumb through of it, and know that it will aid me greatly to attain my Instrument Rating just as his Pilot handbook helped me gain my private Pilots licence. If you are interested in flying then his books are a must for you, especially if you are contemplating taking your lessons in the USA.It's written with just enough humour to keep you smiling while getting the key points across in a thoroughly knowledgable way that stresses understanding and minimises mundane rote learning. Those things that have to be memorised are presented in the best way possible. It's a very thick volume and at times I didn't think I would finish it but I did get through it and I feel very refreshed with my knowledge. I do feel when going over something for the 2nd time, you gain a better understanding and it tends to stick better, but even still, as a first time book I would highly recommend it. I'm looking forward to reading his other books and in combination with other resources I think they will prepare me very well for my return to flying at some stage in the future. 5 Stars. Please restore the safety equipment after usage. When flying a free vehicle, no one can be inside the netting arena; everyone should be outside the netting arena before the vehicle can take off. When retrieving a landed carbon-fiber or metal-prop vehicle inside the netting area, protection gloves must be used. Here additional safety rules are specified and some important safety rules are repeated. If you want to dispose a LiPo battery at IRL, talk to the lab manager who will handle the disposal for you.
