Also, book was fairly priced which is greatly appreciated.There are some gaps, such as a lack of an appendix, which would have made this twice as useful, but right now it's the only book out on Civ 4, so get it while you can.It's the booklover in me, plus the fact that I like to look at the manual and the game I'm playing at the same time. My complaint with this book is that it is cheaply produced and difficult to read. I've grown used to the 4-color Prima guides. They are excelently laid out and easy on the eye. Unless you have great vision, you'll find yorself wanting to use a magnifier. It's fascinating. The Prima Sims2 Nightlife manual has 224 pages, all 4-color, and is a pleasure to read.I am completely new to the Civilization series and need all the help I can get. I think generally the book is doing a good job getting me up to speed. I do agree, though, that the drawbacks of the book are significant and make the book frustrating to use. Text only sometimes can be counted on to refer to the screenshot. The combination of smallness, lack of color and no captions makes the screenshots mostly useless to this reader. Pretty quickly I learned that they add no value to the book.Nevertheless, there is some good information here. The strategy info is marginal, nothing eye-opening if you've played games much. The crunchy bits like the tables of units and improvements are nice to have. In the end, I would probably recommend you skip this guide just to punish Brady for allowing it out the door in such primordial condition. You can always get the same information (and way more besides) on fan sites like Apolyton or CivFanatics.Almost half of info in the book can be obtained from the Civlopedia. There are some game strategies included that can be usefull but there is no game mechanic information. The bigest items missing are the Combat mechanics (of which there is NONE) and the customization information (NONE also) on how to customize the game or make maps using the included map maker. This book is basicly a print version of the Civlopedia.The guide is good and it definately adds some more insights to the game, however you should be aware that the manual that comes in the game box is actually a very good one which includes perhaps 70 of the same material found in the guide. So, I would not say I regret having bought the guide but it might be worth buying the game on its own first, reading through and digesting the thick manual and then considering whether or not to buy the guide as well. Things that are in the guide that are not in the manual (or covered in more depth or from a different angle in the guide) include: - a nice summary of differences from Civ 3 for existing players - a slightly more in-depth review of the new civics options with recommendations of good sets of choices to make to achieve various aims - an outline of variant stratgies (e.g.http://www.musorcentrum.hu/files/article/brother-7020-manual.xml castle, dagger) that is a good introduction - ten pages of a two player game with the two players comments on progress which is rather weak - an excellent summary of the leaders and their strengths and weaknesses which pointed me to the Spanish as a good choice that I would have probably overlooked - a nice overview of some key technologies and how they fit with the game - a good summary of some patterns of building and technology discovering to get you off to the right foot when starting a game - a good overview of key wonders, when to build them and how to use them Hmmm, on reflection I've just gone back and changed my rating to four stars. On balance, I would say that most of this material will appear on fansites pretty quickly as it did for previous versions of Civ and stick to my advice of getting the game and reading the manual before buying this guide. But, if you are the sort of person who likes to have additional strategy guide information in printed form and you feel the manual is lacking in some of the areas I highlight above then this guide will be a useful and good value complement to the thick booklet that comes with the game. Most of the violence was carried out by members of the Ku Klux Klan (KKK), a secretive terrorist organization closely allied with the Southern Democratic Party. Klan members attacked and intimidated Blacks seeking to exercise their new civil rights, as well as Republican politicians in the South favoring those civil rights. One such politician murdered by the Klan on the eve of the 1868 presidential election was Republican Congressman James M. Hinds of Arkansas. Widespread violence in the South led to federal intervention by President Ulysses S. Grant in 1871, which suppressed the Klan. A deep national economic depression following the Panic of 1873 led to major Democratic gains in the North, the collapse of many railroad schemes in the South, and a growing sense of frustration in the North.
