The odometer shows how far the vehicle has been driven, in either miles (used in the United States) or kilometers (used in Canada). The odometer mileage can be checked without the vehicle running. If the light stays on it indicates there is an electrical problem. The system check includes the airbag sensor, the pretensioners, the airbag modules, the wiring and the crash sensing and diagnostic module. See Passenger Sensing System on page 1-59 for important safety information. The rearview mirror has a passenger airbag status indicator. United States Canada When the vehicle is started, the passenger airbag status indicator will light ON and OFF, or the symbol for on and off, for several seconds as a system check. As engine speeds are increased, this condition should correct itself as higher engine speeds allow the charging system to create maximum power. You can only drive for a short time with the reading in either warning zone. If the system is working normally the indicator light then goes off. Being aware of the light can prevent more serious damage to the vehicle. This system assists the service technician in correctly diagnosing any malfunction. Notice: If the vehicle is continually driven with this light on, after a while, the emission controls might not work as well, the vehicle’s fuel economy might not be as good, and the engine might not. Diagnosis and service might be required. See Filling the Tank on page 5-8. Failure to pass this inspection could prevent getting a vehicle registration.CAUTION: Do not keep driving if the oil pressure is low. Someone could be burned. The vehicle can be driven at a reduced speed when the reduced engine power light is on, but acceleration and speed may be reduced. The performance may be reduced until the next time you drive your vehicle. The service all-wheel drive light comes on to indicate that there may be a problem with the drive system and service is required. An arrow on the fuel gage indicates the side of the vehicle the fuel door is on.
