Here’s why: They work. You never know if you’ll be in a crash. If you do have a crash, you don’t know if it will be a bad one. A few crashes are mild, and some crashes can be so serious that even buckled up, a person wouldn’t survive. The rider doesn’t stop. 1-25. In a real vehicle, it could be the windshield. 1-26. With safety belts, you slow down as the vehicle does. You get more time to stop. You stop over more distance, and your strongest bones take the forces. That’s why safety belts make such good sense. Questions and Answers About Safety Belts Won’t I be trapped in the vehicle after an. Don’t let it get twisted. The shoulder belt may lock if you pull the belt across you very quickly. If this happens, let the belt go back slightly to unlock it. Then pull the belt across you more slowly. In a crash, this applies force to the strong pelvic bones. And you’d be less likely to slide under the lap belt. If you slid under it, the belt would apply force at your abdomen. The shoulder belt is too loose. It won’t give nearly as much protection this way. CAUTION: You can be seriously hurt if your shoulder belt is too loose. In a crash, you would move forward too much, which could increase injury. The belt is buckled in the wrong place. 1-32 CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if your belt is buckled in the wrong place like this. In a crash, the belt would go up over your abdomen. The belt forces would be there, not at the pelvic bones. The belt is over an armrest. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if your belt goes over an armrest like this. The belt would be much too high. In a crash, you can slide under the belt. The belt force would then be applied at the abdomen, not at the pelvic bones, and that could cause serious or fatal injuries. The shoulder belt is worn under the arm. It should be worn over the shoulder at all times.http://ainma.com/images/braun-vangater-wheelchair-lift-installation-manual.pdf 1-34 CAUTION: You can be seriously injured if you wear the shoulder belt under your arm. In a crash, your body would move too far forward, which would increase the chance of head and neck injury. The belt is twisted across the body. CAUTION: You can be seriously injured by a twisted belt. In a crash, you wouldn’t have the full width of the belt to spread impact forces. The belt should go back out of the way. Before you close the door, be sure the belt is out of the way. If you slam the door on it, you can damage both the belt and your vehicle. When a safety belt is worn properly, it’s more likely that the fetus won’t be hurt in a crash. For pregnant women, as for anyone, the key to making safety belts effective is wearing them properly. A lap safety belt does not have a retractor. To make the belt longer, tilt the latch plate and pull it along the belt. 1-38 To make the belt shorter, pull its free end as shown until the belt is snug. Accident statistics show that unbelted people in the rear seat are hurt more often in crashes than those who are wearing safety belts. Rear passengers who are not safety belted can be thrown out of the vehicle in a crash. Pull up on the latch plate to make sure it is secure. When the shoulder belt is pulled out all the way, it will lock. If it does, let it go back all the way and start again. In a crash, this applies force to the strong pelvic bones. And you would be less likely to slide under the lap belt. If you slid under it, the belt would apply force at your abdomen. When installed on a shoulder belt, the comfort guide better positions the belt away from the neck and head. The guide must be on top of the belt. 1-43. Make sure that the shoulder belt crosses the shoulder. To remove and store the comfort guides, squeeze the belt edges together so that you can take them out of the guides. If you have the choice, a child should sit in a seat that has a lap-shoulder belt and get the additional restraint a shoulder belt can provide.http://glosunspa.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/162852b3a6ff9f---Burny-10-lcd-manual.pdf Here two children are wearing the same belt. The belt can’t properly spread the impact forces. In a crash, the two children can be crushed together and seriously injured. A belt must be used by only one person at a time. 1-46 What if a child is wearing a lap-shoulder belt, but the child is so small that the shoulder belt. Here a child is sitting in a seat that has a lap-shoulder belt, but the shoulder part is behind the child. If the child wears the belt in this way, in a crash the child might slide under the belt. This includes infants and all other children. Neither the distance traveled nor the age and size of the traveler changes the need, for everyone, to use safety restraints. In fact, the law in every state in the United States and in every Canadian province says children up to some age must be restrained while in a vehicle. Add-on child restraints, which are purchased by the vehicle’s owner, are available in four basic types. Selection of a particular restraint should take into consideration not only the child’s weight, height, and age but also whether or not the restraint will be compatible with the motor vehicle in which it will be used. A young child’s hip bones are still so small that the vehicle’s regular safety belt may not remain low on the hip bones, as it should. The harness system holds the infant in place and, in a crash, acts to keep the infant positioned in the restraint. 1-52 A forward-facing child seat (C-E) provides restraint for the child’s body with the harness and also sometimes with surfaces such as T-shaped or shelf-like shields. A booster seat can also help a child to see out the window. If it is, it will have a label saying that it meets federal motor vehicle safety standards. Then follow the instructions for the restraint. For it to work, a top strap must be properly anchored to the vehicle. Some top strap-equipped child restraints are designed for use with or without the top strap being anchored.annassteen.com/ckfinder/userfiles/files/canon-camera-eos-30d-manual.pdf Be sure to use an anchor point located on the same side of the vehicle as the seating position where the child restraint will be placed. If you have an adjustable head restraint, route the top strap under it. Don’t use a child restraint with a top strap in the front seat because there’s no place to anchor the top strap. An anchor loop bracket for a top strap is located at the bottom rear of the seat cushion for each seating position in the second row, and for the center seating. Don’t use a child restraint with a top strap in the right front passenger’s position, because there’s no place to anchor the top strap. An anchor loop bracket for a top strap is located at the bottom rear of the seat cushion for the center seating position in the third row. To assist you in locating the lower anchors for this child restraint system, each seating position with the LATCH system has a visible metal anchorage point in the seat where the seatback meets the seat cushion. Do not secure a child seat in this position if a national or local law requires that the top strap be anchored or if the instructions that come with the child restraint say that the top strap must be anchored. See Top Strap on page 1-56 if the child restraint has one. Second Row The center seat position in the second row has a lap-shoulder belt which works the same way as the. The child restraint instructions will show you how. A rear seat is a safer place to secure a forward-facing child restraint. See Where to Put the Restraint on page 1-54. 1-68 In addition, your vehicle may have the passenger sensing system. The child restraint instructions will show you how. 4. Buckle the belt. Make sure the release button is positioned so you would be able to unbuckle the safety belt quickly if you ever had to. Your vehicle may also have side impact air bags. And, for some unrestrained occupants, frontal air bags may provide less protection in frontal crashes than more forceful air bags have provided in the past.http://baharemadinah.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/162852b4dce99a---Burr-king-960-manual.pdf Air bags plus lap-shoulder belts offer the best protection for adults, but not for young children and infants. Neither the vehicle’s safety belt system nor its air bag system is designed for them. The driver’s frontal air bag is in the middle of the steering wheel. The right front passernger’s frontal air bag is in the instrument panel on the passenger’s side. 1-75. Don’t put anything between an occupant and an air bag, and don’t attach or put anything on the steering wheel hub or on or near any other air. The seat position sensor provides information which is used to determine if the air bags should deploy at a reduced level or at full deployment. In an impact of sufficient severity, the air bag sensing system detects that the vehicle is in a crash. Some components of the air bag module will be hot for a short time. These components include the steering wheel hub for the driver’s frontal air bag and the instrument panel for the right front passenger’s frontal air bag. The indicator will be visible when you turn your ignition key to START or RUN. The words ON and OFF or the symbol for on and off, will be visible on the rearview mirror during the system check. A label on your sun visor says, “Never put a rear-facing child seat in the front.” This is because the risk to the rear-facing child is so great, if the air bag deploys. If this happens, slightly recline the vehicle’s seatback and adjust the seat cushion if possible. If this ever happens, have the vehicle serviced promptly, because anadult-size person sitting in the right front passenger’s seat may not have the protection of the frontal air bag. There air bag system parts in several places around your vehicle. Your dealer and the service manual have information about servicing your vehicle and the air bag system.http://www.marthatrotts.ca/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/162852b607c2a0---Burris-ff30-tact-manual.pdf Changing or moving any parts of the front seats, safety belts, the air bag sensing and diagnostic module (located under the driver’s seat), or the inside rearview mirror can affect the operation of the advanced air bag system. A damaged restraint system may not properly protect the person using it, resulting in serious injury or even death in a crash. To help make sure your restraint systems are working properly after a crash, have them inspected and any necessary replacements made as soon as possible. They could operate the power windows or other controls or even make the vehicle move. The children or others could be badly injured or even killed. Do not leave the keys in a vehicle with children. If you ever lose your keys, your dealer will be able to assist you with obtaining replacements. Notice: If you ever lock your keys in your vehicle, you may have to damage the vehicle to get in. This is normal for any remote keyless entry system. This can be turned off by pressing the panic button again, waiting for 30 seconds, or starting the vehicle. Remove the bottom by twisting the dime. 2. When a door is locked, the handle will not open it. You increase the chance of being thrown out of the vehicle in a crash if the doors are not locked. Press the recessed side of the switch with the unlock symbol, to unlock all the doors at once. The rear doors of your vehicle cannot be opened from the inside when this feature is in use. If you want to open the rear door while the security lock is engaged, unlock the door and open the door from the outside. The liftgate glass can be opened using the button on the liftgate after the doors have been unlocked. This can be done by using either the power door locks or the remote keyless entry system. They can be overcome by the extreme heat and suffer permanent injuries or even death from heat stroke. Never leave a child, a helpless adult, or a pet alone in a vehicle, especially with the windows closed in warm or hot weather.https://ampgrenaille.com/share/files/canon-camera-ds6041-manual.pdf Power Windows If you have power windows, the controls are located on each of the side doors. 2-16 The driver’s door has a switch for the passenger’s windows as well. The lock-out switch is located in front of the power window switches. This feature prevents all passenger windows from operating, except from the driver’s position, when the lock-out switch is engaged. Although your vehicle has a number of theft-deterrent features, we know that nothing we put on it can make it impossible to steal. However, there are ways you can help. Content Theft-Deterrent Your vehicle may be equipped with a content theft-deterrent alarm system. It activates only if you use a power door lock switch with the door open, or with the remote keyless entry transmitter. If a correct key is not used or the ignition lock cylinder is tampered with, fuel is disabled. A (LOCK): This position locks your ignition and transmission. It’s a theft-deterrent feature. You will only be able to remove your key when the ignition is turned to LOCK. To restart when you’re already moving, use NEUTRAL (N) only. Notice: Do not try to shift to PARK (P) if your vehicle is moving. This feature is designed for shorter drivers, since the pedals can not move farther away from the standard position, but can move toward the driver for better pedal reach. CAUTION: Plugging the cord into an ungrounded outlet could cause an electrical shock. Your vehicle is equipped with an automatic transmission and features an electronic shift position indicator within the instrument panel cluster. This display must be powered anytime the shift lever is capable of being moved out of PARK (P). Notice: Shifting to REVERSE (R) while your vehicle is moving forward could damage the transmission. The repairs would not be covered by your warranty. Shift to REVERSE (R) only after your vehicle is stopped. You can use SECOND (2) on hills. It can help control your speed as you go down steep mountain roads, but then you would also want to use your brakes off and on. If you manually select SECOND (2) in a light duty automatic transmission, the transmission will drive in second gear. You or someone else could be seriously injured. Be sure to set the parking brake before placing the transfer case in NEUTRAL. You may never need this setting. It sends maximum power to all four wheels. You might choose 4LO if you are driving off-road in deep sand, deep mud, deep snow and climbing or descending steep hills. This is like four-wheel drive, but there is no separate lever or switch to engage or disengage the front axle. It is fully automatic, and adjust itself as needed for road conditions. You or someone else could be seriously injured. Be sure to set the parking brake before placing the transfer case in NEUTRAL. Push down the parking brake pedal with your left foot.Your vehicle can roll. If you have left the engine running, the vehicle can move suddenly. If you can leave your vehicle with the ignition key in your hand, your vehicle is in PARK (P). Do not park over papers, leaves, dry grass or other things that can burn. 2-40 Engine Exhaust CAUTION: Engine exhaust can kill. It contains the gas carbon monoxide (CO), which you can not see or smell. But if you ever have to, here are some things to know. CAUTION: Idling the engine with the climate control system off could allow dangerous exhaust into your vehicle. Push the tab away from you for normal daytime operation.Such interference may be caused by a magnetic antenna mount, magnetic note pad holder or a similar magnetic item. It will be necessary to adjust the compass to compensate for compass variance if you live outside zone eight. Under certain circumstances, as during a long distance cross-country trip, it will be necessary to adjust for compass variance. If you have this feature the mirror will display the word ON, or an airbag symbol in Canada, when the passenger air bag is enabled. Move the selector switch located above the control pad to the left or right to choose the mirror you want to adjust, then press the dots located on the four-way control pad to adjust the mirror. The mirrors may also include a memory function which works in conjunction with the memory seats. Fan Knob The fan knob on the left side of the control panel adjusts the fan speed. The climate control has an overhead control near the driver and a control on the back of the center console. The driver overhead control fan knob must be set to the AUX position. The pictures will help you locate them. Warning lights and gages can signal that something is wrong before it becomes serious enough to cause an expensive repair or replacement. Canada and Light Duty Transmission Clusters similar. Your instrument cluster is designed to let you know at a glance how your vehicle is running. You’ll know how fast you’re going, about how much fuel you have and many other things you’ll need to know to drive safely and economically. Your odometer shows how far your vehicle has been driven, in either miles (used in the United States) or kilometers (used in Canada). Trip Odometer The trip odometer can tell you how far your vehicle has been driven since you last set the trip odometer to. The system checks the air bag’s electrical system for malfunctions. The light tells you if there is an electrical problem. The battery display will also stay on while the key is in RUN until the engine is started. If the light stays on after starting the engine it could indicate a problem with the generator drive belt, or some other charging system problem. Have the vehicle serviced as soon as possible. If the light stays on, or comes on when you’re driving, your vehicle needs service. This is normal operation. To turn the system back on, move the shift lever back to a position other than FIRST (1);. This could lead to costly repairs that would not be covered by your warranty. Do not drive your vehicle while the transmission temperature gage reading is above normal. If so, be sure to fuel your vehicle with quality fuel. See Gasoline Octane on page 5-4. Poor fuel quality will cause your engine not to run as efficiently as designed.Canadian vehicles indicate pressure in kPa (kilopascals). Oil pressure may vary with engine speed, outside temperature and oil viscosity, but readings above the low pressure zone indicate the normal operating range. When the fuel tank is low the FUEL LEVEL LOW message will appear. The DIC can display information such as the trip odometer, fuel economy and personalization features. A (Trip Information): This button will display the odometer, personal trip odometer, business trip odometer, hourmeter, annual log and the timer. These buttons are trip information, fuel information, personalization and select. The button functions are detailed in the following. The annual log shows the mileage accumulated since it was last reset.
