This problem has created many problems with the engine and is becoming a safety hazard when their is still a posibility that the breaks will lock up again and possibly spark fire if the problem is not fixed. We have not used our vehicle because of these issues we fear that not fixing the costly problem may damage other parts of the vehicle. We know we are not alone and that other drivers have the same problem with the chevy Equinox 2005.We were on the open road, no overpass, no road debries flying up, no evidence of anything striking the closed sunroof. Climate condition, temp was around 50 degrees. Partly sunny. We do feel that if the shade on the sunroof had not been almost closed, we would have been involved in a crash if this sunroof glass had dropped down on us. Traffic at this time was fairly heavy.Inspection of the sunroof glass revealed that the center of the glass had shattered and cracked glass was still in the sunroof frame. The sunroof was closed at time of this incident. It also has died after I have started it. But the most concerning is having to push on the gas pedal to keep it from dieing, as if it is not getting fuel. Then it will run just fine.I noticed a horrible mildew smell about a couple of weeks ago when I had changed the cabin air filter. Never had an issue until then, I took out the cabin filter thinking that I had not properly sealed the housingThis is very frustrating since I am very knowledgable about cars. I have read tons of posts about water leaking into the spare tire well and I looked there but found no water and the smell is not coming from that location. Does anyone have any other recommendations or other know how to what I can do to rid the car. I just sprayed fabreeze on the carpet.Appartently the part after sometime get weak from heat and cold conditions. Only way to fix is to tear complete dash board out to reach blower assembly, replace vent door and reassemble the entire dash board.I pulled out on the street, accelerated and noticed the needle go up to 4 rpm's at approximately 10 miles an hour. I took my foot off the accelerator and the car jolted and felt like I had been hit from behind. I accelerated again and the same thing happened, again feeling like I was hit from behind. The car is presently at my dealership but they cannot duplicate the problem. Today they are going to drive it for a good distance on the expressway. I had read one complaint on the Equinox forum where someone was driving on the interstate with cruise control on and something very similar happened to them with the rpm sticking at 4 rpm's. I told my dealership about this and ask if maybe they are related problems. It just blows cold air out. I did some research and saw that there were lots of complaints about a heat blend door breaking in this model. Chevrolet hasn't recalled this even though it's kind of dangerous to not have a defroster in icy weather.GMC is not doing to resolve this problem and I think this is safety hazard issue due to it will not defrost without heat and defog. Many complaints on this issue have been posted on the internet. This is a safety hazard.I found over 500 complaints about the same problem on the internet. Problem seems to be with a plastic temperature door valve (temperature blend door) that is defective on the 2006 chevy Equinox. While waiting at a stop light, the car shut off. Upon starting vehicle, there was a rattle.I was so rattled by the collision that I forgot that I had onstar. The other driver used his cell phone to call the police. I received minor injuries during the accident. A few days later I told my husband that I thought it was strange that onstar did not contact me right after the collision. He called onstar and told them what happened. The representative told my husband that the rear sensors should have signaled a collision, but, because the sensors did not activate, onstar would report the problem to gm. The rep also told my husband that this is an ongoing problem and gm management is aware of the problem. The rep offered to extend our onstar trial period for another 6 months. If gm is aware of the rear sensor malfunction, why aren't they correcting the problem. What happens if a more serious rear-end crash occurs, the driver is unconscious, and can't call for help. I would like this problem of the malfunctioning rear sensors to be investigated.I did not know how this was happening until the past rain storm. When we looked at the spare tire compartment it was full of water. My car smells like mildew and my daughter has had a horrible cough for the past few weeks. I fear she has mold in her lungs. When I go online there are multiple complaints on this same issue. It seems there is a faulty seal and it leaks all through the car. It took years to get the recall for the electrical issues in my care that broke down at least 5 times from faulty spark plugs. Please look into as I cannot afford the cost of this and my car makes squishing noises and smells so horribly that I probably cant even sell it.This is the second time. Which makes it hard to drive because the windows fog up.It was raining when I picked up my car. In the first 10 miles I noticed the steering pulled to the left a couple of times. After I hit dry road this did not occur. After about 30-60 miles of driving the vehcile since getting it back, the speedometer started failing and the vehicle while going 55mph starts to feel like it is going to cease to operate and stutters. It is also noted that it feels like it is not going to automatically shift to the appropriate gear. The vehicle is going to chevorlet dealership on Friday 8. 5. 11.Consumer writes in regards to parts changesThe consumer was informed she would have to purchase the entire part which she didn't need.I opened the driver's side door, got in, shut the door as I always do, and the rear glass exploded outward. There was no chip or crack in the glass. We took many pictures of the glass where it is obvious that the glass burst outward, glass spewed all down my driveway. The glass broke all around the edges of the frame and a large hole in the middle. Prior to this, we took the vehicle to the dealership to fix a rattle in the liftgate. I know that the liftgate had to be taken apart and reassembled for this fix. The dealership says the glass fell inward (and after being hauled halfway across town on a wrecker, it sure looks like it did) and that in any case, glass is not covered under the warranty. I called gm and the rep said it should be covered. This is a brand new vehicle that I have taken very good care of. I am waiting to hear back from the district rep or the dealer. I am concerned about the safety of exploding glass, what if kids had been in the car.I hope that gm and the dealership will correct this defect.I had to crack the windows open in order for the windows not to fog up during my drive home. Believing this was just a simple matter of replacing a heater core or thermostat, and because I wouldn't need the heater during the summer months I didn't start looking into the matter until a few weeks ago. The cost to fix it is very expensive, due to the labor involved. Chevrolet seems to be aware of the problem, but are doing nothing about the potential safety issue. I feel that not being able to defrost the windshield is a serious safety problem, that has the potential to cause a serious accident. I have read that chevy recalled a 2010 Equinox because of a defect that caused an inoperable defrost system, but there is no recall for the 2006 model. (failure mileage is approximate).Mechanic also said it was odd that the part was in stock. Also need to be able to see when I drive. Something has to be done about this. I am nervous to even use my heat as I don't want to have this happen again. From what I have read online, this is happening often.
