I used it as a PhD student and now I recommend it to my juniors and seniors. It's clear, concise, well sectioned and you can dip in and out of it.But there were a couple of important chapters in the book that were bound upside down. These would seem minor enough if it were a novel. But I used the book more as a reference skipping around as I wrote my paper. It was really annoying and made it where I didn't even want to mess with using the book. Not sure if the book would be worth the extra money to get the digital version as this book was recommended but not required for my class. This 'short guide' is 350 pages long! There are sample essays in the book and it tells you what you should and shouldn't write which was very helpful when I was writing my essays. Overall, definitely recommend if you want to write about art or are taking an art class that requires writing an essay. It allowed me to reinforce what I learn in class especially since I'm horrid about taking notes. The book is extremely helpful, especially for those of us just beginning to scratch the surface of the world of art. It will help anyone that truly wants to learn about art.Works on Kindle for iPad and Kindle for Mac, but that should be made patently clear. Also more expensive than the standard print book.
