I have used the search feature here and done searches elsewhere to figure out what the best source for a shop manual for the 230SL, mine is a 1967. Is the Hanes manual good. Is there an official MB manual that is the best, or some other source??? I am willing to invest in a good text. I just need something with pages and diagrams that I can touch and feel and get greasy, and I might as well start off with the most helpful thing. The workshop manual can be either 1959 edition with updates, or the 1968 edition. Known as BBB in its English edition. Truly useful! I enclose a file from M-B Classic describing the Tech Literature available. All is orderable, by the numbers given, at your local M-B dealer (from M-B Classic in Germany or soon in Irvine CA) or from EVO address in Fellbach as written. It is MUCH better than the Haynes. The hard back version that I have is out of print but it appears that there is a paperback reprint available from Amazon.com. Jim Villers 190SL, 230SL 5-Speed, 190E 2.3-16 Kompressor It appears that his artist drew renditions of the actual photos in the BBB so you may need to reference both, but for a relative newbie like me he discusses useful tips and warnings that do not get mention in the BBB. I have done a complete engine rebuild (7k miles ago) and the front end (0 miles ago) in my home garage using the manual. The front end was the most difficult, and I still can't get the freakin' brakes bled. But it is not the manual's fault, I'm sure. The book just arrived and while I like the insructions I am wondering whether this reprint is of the same quality as the earlier ones. Some of the pictures are so dark that the details are very difficult to see. So, Chad and Cees I would appreciate it if you could comment on this, please. The idea of ??creation belongs to Max Hoffman, an importer of luxury European cars in the USA in the 1950s, who evaluated the model’s sales opportunities, taking into account the availability of wealthy Gran Turismo car enthusiasts in the rapidly developing post-war American market, which is still the main market for SL- class. The success story of the SL-class begins with the racing model 300SL (W194) and a brilliant victory at the prestigious international races in 1952, which served as a reason for creating models 300SL Gullwing (W198 I, on sale since 1954) and 190SL (W121, since 1955.). With the advent of the more powerful Mercedes-Benz W196 in 1954, the W194 would have been put on the spot, if not for one event. In 1953, the official importer of Mercedes-Benz cars in the US Maximilian E. Hoffman (English Maximilian E. Hoffman) asked to create a road version of the racing car W194 and a year later the car was ready. The car received the designation Mercedes-Benz 300 SL and became a sensation and symbol of the 1950s.http://www.drupalitalia.org/node/68026 Neither the lightweight sports body nor the powerful three-liter engine had such a strong effect as the unique gull-wing doors. In 1958, the coupe was redesigned into an open roadster, which proved to be no less popular. In total, 1,400 cars with a coupe and 1858 roadsters were produced. This model represented an attractive, more affordable alternative to the Mercedes-Benz 300 SL, sharing its basic ideas and technological features. The new car was designed based on the R121 platform (modification of the W121 sedan). The car’s power was 77 kW (105 hp at 5700 rpm and 142 Nm at 3200 rpm) In 1963, both the 190SL and 300SL were replaced by the Mercedes-Benz 230SL (W113). The body of the car was a double coupe-cabriolet either with tarpaulin, or with a removable metal roof. A luxury two-seater could boast of high performance and optimum safety. Almost 70 of all copies produced were exported and best sold in the USA (40 of the total production). In December 1966 the model 250SL appeared, and a year later the more powerful 280SL. Externally, all three models of the series were the same, but differed in the engines of different working volumes. In 1971 they were replaced by the models 350SL and 450SL of the new series. Under the hood of cars were V8 engines 3.5 and 4.5 liters for models 350SL and 450SL respectively. The body of the R107 was so strong that on its base in 1971 was created a comfortable four-seater coupe Mercedes-Benz SLC (C107, 350 SLC). In April 1973, both the roadster and coupe were launched on the market with a 4.5-liter V8 engine that generated 165 kW (225 hp). On the success of the car can be said that, like the SUV Gelendevagen, he kept a record for the duration of production. For 18 years, 237 287 cars were produced (among them 62 888 in the coupe version, 1971-1981).http://dkc1burgas.com/images/4-in-one-remote-manual.pdf It was not easy to find a good replacement solution, but as a result, the aerodynamic scheme of the arrow-shaped form on the basis of the four-seat Mercedes-Benz W124 cabriolet was chosen. The Mercedes-Benz R129, presented at the Geneva Motor Show in early 1989, had many innovations such as an independent suspension and an automatically rising safety arc behind the seats (for the first time in the world, an open machine guaranteed safety to passengers during a coup). For the first time the company Mercedes-Benz produced exclusive publications for specific markets, and not just the adaptation of cars to meet the legal requirements and aesthetic preferences of the countries of export.A “new” SL-Class is being formed, the 500SL and 600SL models are becoming SL500 and SL600, respectively, and the 300’s were replaced by the SL280 and SL320 models. At the same time, another important event happened: tuning studio AMG became the official partner of Mercedes-Benz and released its model SL60 AMG. In 1995, cars received facelifts, including engine upgrades and the installation of a 5-speed automatic transmission. In the saloon R129 appeared side airbags, climate control and electronic stability control. Series engines on the SL280 and SL320 have been replaced by V6. And in 1999 the company itself was bought by Daimler AG and SL55 AMG appeared instead of SL60. The production began on October 13, 2001 with plans for the release to the European market already in November of the same year. The machine had such innovations as active suspension (Active Body Control) and self-extracting roof. The lineup was opened by cars SL500, SL600 and SL55 AMG. The latter proved to be the most successful and popular for the subsidiary manufacturer of Mercedes-Benz.The next upgrade followed in 2008, during which the car received a completely new design in front and updated electronics.http://cgt-fo-csc.fr/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626c5e9a5b38c---8594e-service-manual.pdf The lineup has been replenished with the younger model SL280, other models: SL350, SL500 (SL550 in the USA), SL600 and SL 65 AMG remained the same, but the popular SL55 AMG was replaced by SL63 AMG, which did not enjoy the same success. In addition, in 2008, based on the R230 was released safety cars of Formula 1, and also appeared coupe SL65 AMG Black Series, which has the characteristics of a supercar. By October 2011, about 170,000 Mercedes-Benz R230 cars were sold (78 are exports, of which 45 are for the US). The new Mercedes-Benz R231 is lighter than its predecessor, since many parts are made entirely of aluminum. In February SL63 AMG was announced, and in March at the Geneva Motor Show it was shown simultaneously with the European premiere of SL500 and SL350. At the end of the month, the SL 65 AMG was introduced, and from the 31st onwards all family cars officially appeared on sale. Learn how your comment data is processed. Thanks and best Regards. However, on a 50-year-old automobile the original weatherstrips can cost you some quality points at the local car show.AUTOMOVILESMONTES.COM/userfiles/files/canon-imageprograf-w8200-service-manual.pdf When it comes to replacing classic car weatherstripping the name of the game is finding exact replica replacement parts. On classic cars susceptible to rusting sheet metal panels, the weather strips ability to seal properly becomes more important than the appearance. Since every car built in the last 120 years, utilizes rubber weatherstripping this article applies to all automobiles. Nevertheless, those with T-tops and sunroofs will want to pay special attention to the tips provided here. In addition, we’ll discuss sourcing new parts that look exactly like the original ones from the factory. Whether you have a classic Pontiac Firebird Trans Am or a vintage Mercedes-Benz achieving a watertight seal becomes paramount. In fact, it’s just as important is how the replacement parts look. This is why we’ll spend some time discussing the final installation. Classic car enthusiasts have a saying. Rust never sleeps. With that said, it’s a failed weather strip that lets the water in and helps the rust take over. For this reason removal procedures can often become model specific. Some classic car auto repair manuals provide helpful step-by-step information to facilitate the removal of failed weatherstripping. Unfortunately, on older classic cars, with original parts, removing the old rubber can be a difficult operation. Thankfully, some special tools help make this task easier. They make narrow blade scrapers that fit inside of the weather strip retaining tracks. For vintage automobiles that utilize a combination of glue and retainers, you can use specialized solvents. Patience is a virtue when it comes to using weatherstrip removing solvents. Make sure to provide enough soaking time for the chemicals to their job. Although these weatherstrip solvents work well when used as directed, precautions must be taken to protect the paint. Body shop technicians often lay down protective masking tape around the tracks.https://glosunspa.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626c5ea0cb311---8594e-spectrum-analyzer-manual.pdf In addition, they cover the painted surfaces in the vicinity in case any splashes occur. Taking extra time in this area is critical. There are a few more areas that also require some protection. After removing the bulk of the old weatherstripping go back and soak any remaining pieces and glue spots with additional solvent. Body technicians use a clever trick. They place a rag on top of the stubborn spot and then apply the solvent to the rag. Failure to completely remove all of the old glue can cause improper sealing of the new weatherstrips. When you’re finished, the tracks and mounting surfaces should look brand-new. Many auto parts companies do an excellent job of serving this niche market. Several large, respectable auto-parts companies provide complete classic car weatherstripping kits. Whether you have a 50-year-old classic Cadillac Eldorado or a 1970 Chevrolet Chevelle muscle car you will find exact match parts available. As a mechanic that has performed more than a few classic car restoration projects I can tell you that there are often surprises included in the weatherstripping kits. When you perform a complete restoration you uncover rubber components that exist in places you never thought of. Let me provide an example using a 1948 Cadillac 2-door fastback I helped restore. These old Cadillac cars are known for water leaks in the trunk. Often by the time people figure out where the leak was coming from, it became necessary to replace the trunk pan. Replacing the tiny little weatherstrip underneath the trunk emblem can save you a lot of time and aggravation down the road. The companies that produce these weatherstrip kits also supply specialized molding clips and oddball retaining fasteners. My advice is to give one of these companies a call and speak to somebody before you begin the project. This is better than ordering it online and figuring it out for yourself. These rubber pieces can also come with a manufacturing residue on them.http://www.marthatrotts.ca/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1626c5ea9a7311---8594em-manual.pdf Therefore, wash all of the weatherstripping with soap and water, especially the spots where you apply the weatherstrip adhesive. Now it’s time to perform a dry fit installation. The dry fit is when you fully install the parts without the retainers and the glue. This allows you to get a feel for the curves and straight runs. With the dry fit completed, you’re now ready for a permanent installation. Body shop technicians usually have their favorite types of weatherstrip adhesives. With that said, 3M makes an excellent weatherstrip adhesive product. The best advice is to apply the adhesive to one section at a time. Although you will have to work quickly, you still have plenty of time before the weatherstrip adhesive cures completely. This is another reason for working one section at a time. Finally, allow 24 to 48 hours for a complete cure before performing a water test to verify proper sealing. Learn what the most desirable car paint colors are here. Fear not, you’ll get over this as there is a broad range of car paint colors to consider. These colors have been associated with quality, luxury, and status. That doesn’t mean they’re the only options you have when buying a car. Industry experts, such as Jane Harrington, a color pro at PPG industries, are already betting on blue as a great car color in the coming years. It’s one of those colors that are easy to customize. Automakers, such as Tesla, have opted for blue as one of the most popular colors. If yes, you have white, and it’s still a favorite option for many car owners. White has always been a popular option, but Apple helped to reinforce its prominence with the release of white iPhones, iPods, iMacs, and iBooks. When it comes to crash risk, white cars are considered safer than most options as they are easily visible. However, white isn’t a good option if you want to try something new. Black is undeniably cool when it’s new and looks great on sleek cars or SUVs. It’s the leading color in the luxury segment.AUTOMATISMES-SES.COM/ckfinder/userfiles/files/canon-imageprograf-w7250-manual.pdf Also, it can be hard to clean. Since it’s a common color, it tends to go unnoticed. So, if you’re a kind of person that love keeping a low profile, this is your go-to option. Its metallic tone seems to have a way with people that love cars with a metallic touch. It reigned between 2001 and 2006 as silver was a color of choice for computers, home entertainment systems, and cell phones. It doesn’t show road dirt like white, and it’s also among those car paint colors that go unnoticed. Mercedes-Benz and BMW have used this color on many of their models, and it’s no surprise to see it among the top options. Caring for gray is easier that other colors such as white. Plus, it doesn’t take a hard hit from heat build-up from the sun. Gray, silver, white and black colors are the most dominant, representing about 76 percent of all colors collectively. Without getting too scientific, the reason for this, points back to how Mother Nature generates fog. Here in the United States we get a lot of cold fronts during the spring and fall season. Therefore, we’ll talk about how fog lights work and compare factory installed fog lights with aftermarket solutions. They also look pretty cool even when they’re off. With that said, fog lights can actually help you see better depending on the thickness of the fog you’re driving through. The reason headlights remain ineffective at seeing through fog is thanks to the moisture particles contained in the mist. These water droplets reflect the light back at the driver. This is why when you turn on the high beams, you see less than the low setting. When you add more light it just shines back at you more intensely. The theory behind fog lights is you mount them low to see underneath the fog. When fog forms it’s less dense at ground level. Not only do the fog lights attempt to shoot beams of light underneath the heaviest concentrations of fog, but they also light the roadway effectively. This is why fog lights often mount below the front bumper in factory installed situations. Car manufacturers also standardized a few of the key operational features included in this safety feature. The fog lights in a factory installed system won’t turn on until you activate the headlights. In other words, they don’t work independently as they might with an aftermarket installation with a separate switch. They incorporate this rule, because turning on the high beams makes it harder to see through dense fog as described above. The nice part about factory installed systems becomes the ongoing support offered. When you go to purchase these types of systems buying a complete kit is recommended over buying the parts separately. Let me explain this a little further. You can go out and buy a set of high-powered fog lamps and a switch. And set up a homemade system that turns on and off using that toggle switch. Buying a fog lamp kit can provide better reliability and compliance with local laws. These complete kits come with a relay, the fog lamps themselves and a switch assembly. It’s nice to have a relay in this circuit, because of the powerful lamps in a fog light kit. These high intensity lamps draw a lot of current. Using the relay takes the load off of the switch and the wiring that runs inside the car. The obvious advantage of using a relay set up remains the reduction of overheating. When you’re installing an aftermarket kit you don’t want to confuse off road lighting with fog lighting. We’ve all seen those lifted four-wheel-drive pickup trucks with lights mounted on the roll bar. We call this off-road lighting. It doesn’t help in foggy situations. The goal becomes to slide a wide beam of focus light underneath the fog layer. The downside to mounting these lamps low on the automobile is the possibility of damage. They’ll be susceptible to road debris, deep water, ice and snow. If you live in an area of the country where these types of hazards exist, you might want to spend a little more on the fog lights themselves. Select lamps that include waterproof housings and stone guards that cover heavy duty glass to protect your investment. In a factory installed fog lamp situation they design the car from the ground up to carry this additional load. When you add an aftermarket system you’ll also add an additional 25 Amp draw to run those lights. When you add this to charging cell phones and additional accessories plugged into power outlets you can push power requirements past the vehicles capabilities. If your alternator outputs maximum power at all times it will shorten the life of this charging system component. Your significant other takes you downstairs, asking you to close your eyes before they open Your significant other takes you downstairs, asking you to close your eyes before they open the door. You do so. They take you outside into the morning frost, then ask you to open your eyes. Nothing quite sells the Christmas spirit like that! Between their sleek design, interiors fit for a king, and top of the line safety and comfort features, who could ask for more from a luxury car? They have captivated our cultural imagination for decades, making many prime appearances in film, such as the Porsche 928 in Tom Cruise’s 1983 film Risky Business. Though Porsche has axed the 928, rumors abound of it making a comeback, so keep your eyes and ears peeled. Mine bought me four!” Even the video game industry got in on the fun, with a special Audi R8 created and sold as a merchandising tie-in for Square Enix’s Final Fantasy XV. Performance. Audi’s dynamic steering is like no other brand on the market. Every single Tesla vehicle is either an electric-only or a hybrid, which will help reduce your carbon footprint. BMWs, while sometimes thought to be difficult to repair, are one of the best vehicles on the market in terms of maintaining their value. If well-maintained, they can perform well for far longer than other luxury vehicles of the same price. Hopefully, these give you some ideas of the best cars to bring with you into the new year. Look no further. Off-roading is all about jumping into nature Look no further. In this article, we’re going to look at what makes a great off-road vehicle and pick 8 of the best off-road vehicles in 2019. Let’s find out which is the best one for you. Is it size? Torque? Clearance? All of the above? Let’s find out what you need to look for when purchasing your next toy. Basically, more is better. The more ground clearance you have, the more easily your vehicle can climb over obstacles. If you can’t see well at night, you’ll find yourself in trouble. Many off-road vehicles come packed with LED lights to guide you in the dark of the bush. If a vehicle has sold you on everything else but has bad lighting, you can always purchase your own, however. The heavier you are, the more difficult it is to get over obstacles. Lighter vehicles overcome obstacles better, are easier to control on rough terrain, and have a lower center of gravity. If you aren’t equipped with off-road tires and a lightweight vehicle, you could end up just spinning your tires. More torque makes it much easier to ride on rough terrain without feeling like you’re destroying your vehicle. The Gladiator has over 7,600 pounds of towing capacity, which blows past Wranglers out of the water. It’s got dozens of options for additional features that can make your off-road experience unforgettable. Visit this page to find out more about Jeep’s on and off-road capabilities. New features include “Jump Mode”, which detects when the Raptor is off the ground, then turns up its compression damping to brace for impact, allowing the Raptor to avoid bottoming out on big jumps. You can adjust the speed then the Raptor takes it from there while the driver focuses on steering. If you set the speed to 1 mph, the Raptor sends power just to the wheels, great for getting unstuck in your travels. Its massive 37-inch tires give you all the clearance you could ever hope for. Word on the street is that this thing can cruise at speeds up to 100 mph off road. The 575 hp supercharged 6.2-liter V-8 engine is somehow going to be upgraded with next year’s 707 hp version. The G550 by Mercedes-Benz has a similar look to its predecessors but there are some subtle changes with this model. But, with the Discovery SVX, some of the off-road spirit of Land Rover still remains. It’s got a truck-like build that gives it tons of ground clearance and a huge amount of storage space, for long journeys. The new customizable AWD version of the sprinter comes in at 190 hp with 324 lb-ft of torque. These numbers probably won’t blow an off-road expert away. You can pre-heat and check the fuel levels remotely, use the interior WiFi hotspot, and employ the incredible driving aid features to make your long-haul trip a good time.
