Gay Jr. 5.0 out of 5 stars Everything is in context as there are many chapters and sidebars for notes and definitions. Never have i gotten scattered,lost or confused as can happen in scholarly texts. She dispels some misconceptions too. There is much more like todays global concerns, climate change, health, science, prophecy, epidemics etc. The bottom line is the suggestion to focus on positive change and transformation rather than dwell on the destruction of the old and what is no longer sustainable. A valuable resource. Enjoy!My gist was to improve, not parrot. After reading this book, I decided I could not produce a better book regarding all of the signposts leading to our demise in '12. While I don't believe in a single iota of any of these so called predictions, I find it an enthralling and enjoyable deviation from my day to day mundane life. While some of the predictions will certainly give the weak-minded pause to reflect, they are all an exercise in how vast and funny the collective human consciousness works. Great fun! In my opinion, this book is well researched, well written and deep in scope. If you are truly interested in the end of life as we know it, buy this book.

If, like me you are simply entertained by the silliness of people throughout the ages, it is well worth the price. Michael L. Gooch, SPHR - Author of Wingtips with SpursWould it be a satire about 2012. I was pleasantly surprised to learn that it was not. From the first pages I was hooked. I have tried to read other books about 2012. They get so technical with some of the galactic explanations that my eyes glaze over. This book is written for the average joe and it is filled with so much valuable information and with such a well-rounded point of view. I'm certainly no expert on the subject, but what is in this book resonates with me and makes a lot of sense to me. I will be referring back to this book often. I heartily thank the authors for a job well done.I really enjoyed the first part of the book. I was not too crazy about the 2nd part. I felt the authors were on a mission to convince the readers to accept their belief of the 2012. Readers should be able to read and come to their own conclusions. Authors should have written the second part in more neutral tone. Second part of the book was too intense and unneccesarry pressure put on the reader. I gave the 3 stars for the 1st part of the book. I still felt first part was worth reading.The history of ancient peoples and the meaning of 2012 was fascinating and enlightening. This book was refreshing in that it concentrated on the positive message of 2012, as a possible new beginning for all of humanity, instead of the doom and gloom so many people are espouting. I too believe we can ALL make a difference by being kinder to each other, more tolerant, and positive. And we ALL need to respect Mother Earth as the wonderful and Majestic planet that she is. We can all make a positive change and help bring peace and harmony to ourselves and the world as a whole. Also explores many modern topics like New Age purification, Climate Change, Crop Circles, DNA, DMT, natural disasters, etc. You can learn a lot of interesting stuff even if you're not a Doomsday PrepperI had read other books about 2012 but they were so complicated that they left me more confused than before I started reading them. Along with the mathematics and scientific explanations, the authors also present all forecasts and prophecies in objective ways that do not lead the reader to panic and look for the nearest escape from doom and gloom. I strongly recommend this book for everyone who wants to really understand what is being forecast for the next few years.The style of writing is easy and I admit that the writer has made the subject as accessible as it can be; it's just that I hadn't realised how heavy and dry a subject this is. So for that reason some people will love this book as it gives enormous detail into the religion, ideology and history of the Mayans. The first 5 chapters, I found to be very dry indeed and struggled to skim read them. It got more interesting after that though when it told you about the prophecies and gave different interpretations of the calendar stopping. Again, it wasn't for me because it conflicted with biblical prophecies which I believe in, although I like to be informed about other thinking. I did not enjoy this book and would have given it far less stars; however, I can recognise that it gives lots of detail on the subject and goes in to it in depth. I suppose I was looking for a lighthearted overview and this is not it but this will definitely appeal for people wanting to know a lot about this subject. The only thing I would say this book is exceptionally helpful with is outlining things to avoid and things to include--ie it provides a useful list of appropriate sections for proposals and what should be included in each section.
