Any source of collets at a reasonable price. Without photos it didn't happen, so here it is in the bed of my little Tacoma pickup: Now, if I'd actually gone to the auction preview I'd have realized how big and heavy this thing is, but then I'd have missed a small adventure. I did manage to get this thing into my shop without any help other than a come-along and my trusty Harbor Freight hydraulic lift cart, which I think was more than maxed-out at a bit over 900 lbs. Oh, yes, the serial number is 2078 - is there a way to tell when it was made?Worked an Alexandra die sinker as an apprentice but the 3D bit was locked off and it just ran as a simple engraver. The plates were bought in screen printed. They wouldn't let you stamp them as they looked too crude so they had to be engraved. The guys hated this job as it didn't pay bonus but apprentices didn't get bonus so were were given these to do but even the apprentices hated the job as too boring which it was. I loved it, that much so our inspector used to save them all and give me the lot to do. Used to get a slack weeks work at a time but if you got organised so every plate with - ten thou mains went into one pile, 20 thou into another you didn't need to swap type over. Then reorder the plates and you could do a slack weeks work in two days. That left 3 days to make Norton, Triumph, BSA and Velocette badges for all the lads which actually paid more than if the company job was on bonus Now been superceeded by the CNC engraver and latterly the laser engraver but still an enjoyable machine to use.I still say GLOAT for you! You suck. dougYou get better quality reducing down, ant errors or wobbles isn't as noticeable. When I used to do the bike badges photocopiers that could enlarge were unheard off for the public si 'd make a tracing on graph paper and then freehand draw it onto another sheet but larger, one square of the original equalled 5 squares of the new. Then a tracing was made of this and it was traced onto fibreboard. This was then the copy you followed and I went over it with a ballpoint pen and over it and over it to make a groove in the fibreboard that the stylus could follow. Used to take 2 or 3 nights to do one decent master. Would have hated to attempt this one. About 30 minutes to program this on the computer and 47 minutes to engrave. 9 minutes with a laser engraverI could not go very far using the machine simply by reading the Deckel manual - there is a learning curve. A Deckel SO cutter grinder or one of its many clones is useful for this if you are going to use the pantograph a lot. Even Harbor Freight sold a clone up until a couple of years ago, but the used Deckel SO's sell for several hundred dollars - see Ebay. Manual pantographs might be obselete, but CNC engravers still use the single lip cutters. Cutters can be purchased - see Ebay also. Collets for the GK12 can be purchased from Artco. They also carry a nice selection of Perlon (nylon) belts used on the machine. Note that a different collet is used by the GK21 than is used by the GK12. Arno might have a couple of used collets availlable. I have a GK21 that was given to me by a friend, but I had to haul it 1400 miles home. It has a single speed single phase 220v.I have 3-phase in my garage at home. You are going to love the machine, considering the work you have done. It is truly a fine precision device. A.T.I also made a few templates by hand drawing the design on cardboard and following it on the engraver. Just had to make it over sized to hide most of the mistakes. Still have a belt buckle I made with a graphic of a sailor with a huge screw run though him. I haven't done a thing with it. I suprised me too how heavy it is.All the letter sets etc.I cleaned it up, but never really used it before I sold it. I had a couple sets of letters. I still have a mile of urethane round belting for it. You are welcome to have as much as you need. I work in Menlo Park, so not far from you. rkloppWould love to have that size machine, but they tend to bring to high of price in the Chicago area. Contact me if you want any fonts of text and I can send you pictures of what I have available. I help run a Maker space which is just a community workshop that people can become a member of to work on projects. I hope to group this with our 3d Printer and vacuum former to go from print, to prototype, to part, to product. I did happen to get a full set of English manuals with the machine, the technical bulletins, and parts lists. I would like to know what the (german manual) formplattenhalter is. My machine is missing this and I fear I need it for rigid milling. I do have the table fastening block but do not have the ground spacer used to lock the head at zero (I can make one at work if someone is willing to give me the OAL). The seller also has a Deckel G1 L (with a ton of accessories) and a Gorton P2-2 that is well worn, shares accessories with the G1 and has a head spacer. Would these be worth picking up. I dont see a way to lock these machines for rigid milling, can it be done easily. Has anyone done a head swap on these with success. Also is there a drop in kit for the Deckel GK21 to have Z travel on the spindle for drilling holes besides moving the table up and down. I will post pictures here next week sometime. Thanks.D Wolf Design.I assume?Cute little machines.D Wolf Design.I assume? You bolt the form piece in the depression on the underside of the form holder. Lets say you want to engrave something on a spherical object. You secure the object to the work table, then make a form piece with a spherical depression in it with the same radius as the object. Then you bolt this form piece to the form holder (formplattenhalter) and set the machine so that the point on top of the spindle rides on the surface in the underside of the form piece. If the form piece has a spherical depression in it, you can engrave a spherical object on the work table, with the spindle being constrained to a spherical surface on the form piece. If the object is conical, you make a conical depression in the form piece, etc. This is a way to engrave small areas of odd shaped pieces, etc. For belts and other parts for the GK-21, Artco has a good assortment. Search this section of PM for more information. A.T.The machine did come with the tooling square. Would the Deckel G1L be worth picking up. I already have a dedicated table top pantograph, Would love to turn it into a small mill.I have the later model GK 21. Give me a call to discuss measurements. Roy 248 855-2618I shot a video of safe removal of the head and spring tension unit, and re assembly with some hard learned tips. Once I edit the video I'll post a link up. Also is there a serial number list I can add to or approximate the age of this machine?Practical Machinist is the easiest way to learn new techniques, get answers quickly and discuss common challenges with your peers. Which is the appropriate Deckel pantograph to do this. I'm confused (OK, I'm always confused, but this time moreso) as to whether I'd want 2-D or 3-D, model G----- or F-----. Can a 2-D machine do 3-D by repeateldy changing the elvation of the model and part. You can see an example of what I'd like to carve here: The GK-series are 3D providing they come with the 3D alignment bar. The KF-series are about 2000 lbs.Hey Arno! Almost at the same time. How hard is it to make the 3D alignment bar if it is missing. Is this correct? Thanks! RichMake a tapered pin that fits into the locating bore of the vertical (3D) joint and put a flat on it on the outside end (now looking like a single lip engraving cutter). Take a 3 foot straight edge, attatch it to the flat on the pin, and Bob's your uncle. Arno I got a spare one here, reasonable price, but packing and shipping from Toronto will kill you.
