This had damaged the DC-DC Converter board: The loose screw is known to short out the DC-DC Converter board pictured below. If lucky it will blow the on-board SMD fuse, alas it had done more than that with this one: Rear view. In short, the High Tatras are perfect for anyone looking for a classic KE mountain holiday. Next, we hike up to the spectacular lake of Morskie Oko on Rysy’s north side and cross a high pass into the beautiful 'Polish Five Lakes Valley'. We then hike to the famously scenic Rusinowa Meadow for yet another jaw-dropping panorama of the Tatras, before transferring around to Strbske Pleso on the Slovakian side of the range. Climbing Rysy (2499m) from this side is no less special than the northern approach and the trails are generally less busy. Additionally, by hiking up from and back to our lake-side accommodation at Paprodske Pleso, we can leave most of our gear in our rooms and enjoy the day unencumbered.Time to explore before transferring to Zakopane. Then Zakopane visit and transfer and walk to the Roztoki Hut. Transfer to Krakow. However, the ascent of Rysy does include some short sections of easy scrambling (protected by chains) and high up it’s also possible to encounter patches of old snow. The mountain huts we use are generally inaccessible by vehicle and this means that on some days you will be carrying all of your personal gear. Since neither a sleeping bag nor a camping mattress is needed, we suggest that you can limit the weight of your rucksack to no more than 8 or 9 kilograms. And, on the longest days (Day 3 and Day 5), you can leave most of your gear at the overnight hut. On average, you can expect to be walking for 6 hours each day and to accumulate 1000 metres of ascent or descent. This trekking holiday is suitable for regular hillwalkers, looking for an excellent week's mountain walking in a largely undiscovered part of the world. Once the group is all together, KE Land Only package services begin with an escorted transfer by train (15 minutes) into the city. Here we will have time for a look around the famous central square and to obtain some Polish currency (Polish zloty) before taking some lunch. In the afternoon, we board our transport for the 110 kilometre journey south towards the Tatras. Arriving at the mountain resort town of Zakopane, we check in to our simple hotel accommodation. The guide will advise on the choice of restaurant for the evening meal. Then Zakopane visit and transfer and walk to the Roztoki Hut. It will take us less than an hour to reach the beautiful Siklawica Waterfall, where there is a small hut, the perfect place for refreshment before we continue on the 'Bear Trail'. Heading eastward now, this trail takes us above the tree line to the viewpoint of Sarnia Skala (1377m) where there are great views of the Western Tatras and across to the sprawling town of Zakopane. Continuing our hike eastwards across the forested upper reaches of the Bialego Valley we pass the isolated Gorski Hotel and reach the roadhead at Kuznice after around 4 hours of walking. Meeting our transport here, we drive to Zakopane and have some time to look around this lively town which boasts the longest pedestrian shopping street in Poland. Zakopane is a centre for mountain sports, especially for winter sports. There is a strong 'highlander' culture in this area and the town has some interesting traditional wooden buildings. After our visit we have a 45-minute transfer to the roadhead in the Bialka Valley (on the border between Poland and Slovakia) and from there walk for about an hour on a forest trail to reach the absolutely charming Roztoki Hut which is set in a clearing. This will be our accommodation for the next 2 nights. This is reckoned to be the most beautiful lake on the Polish side of the Tatra Mountains and there are dramatic views up to the rocky headwall of the valley which includes the summits of Mieguszowiecki (2438m) and Rysy (2499m) itself. We can take a coffee stop here beside the lake before hiking up for an hour through forest and then more open moorland to the Swistowka Pass (1800m) which leads us into the adjacent Valley of the Polish Five Lakes. Looking back from the approach to the pass we can see the upper lake in the Bialka Valley, Czarny Staw Pod Rysami, which nestles beneath the rugged northern side of Rysy.
