If you have just a basic knowledge of cars, then you will understand this manual in no time. Even if you have NO knowledge of cars, you can still understand how to maintain the E34 Series and you will be able to discuss problems more intelligently with a mechanic.I was pleasantly surprised to find a reasonably priced hardcover for the BMW I recently acquired. This is THE go-to-book for any mechanic, shade-tree or professional. Excellent index and table of context, clear diagrams, good paper quality, good quality images and photographs. The one complaint I have on the 5 Series manual, is that while it had very detailed instructions on engine maintenance and removal and even work on the valve train, there were no diagrams or illustrations of the entire motor out of the engine-bay, which would be helpful for those of us not familiar with this engine.They are far superior to a Haynes or Chilton manual and, in some ways, better than a Factory Manual as they are much easier to read. I really like that this manual is available with a Hard Cover - much better for the workshop environment. I only wish Bentley covered more brands and models, especially rotary powered Mazdas and BMW M series.They are thorough, straightforward, accurate, and complete from basic to a very high technical level. Even if you don't do your own repair work on your car, they will educate you as to what the problem most likely is, what the repair entails, and help you understand what your tech is doing. The theory behind fog lights is you mount them low to see underneath the fog. When fog forms it’s less dense at ground level. Not only do the fog lights attempt to shoot beams of light underneath the heaviest concentrations of fog, but they also light the roadway effectively. The fog lights in a factory installed system won’t turn on until you activate the headlights. When you’re installing an aftermarket kit you don’t want to confuse off road lighting with fog lighting. We’ve all seen those lifted four-wheel-drive pickup trucks with lights mounted on the roll bar. We call this off-road lighting. It doesn’t help in foggy situations. The goal becomes to slide a wide beam of focus light underneath the fog layer. The downside to mounting these lamps low on the automobile is the possibility of damage. They’ll be susceptible to road debris, deep water, ice and snow. Select lamps that include waterproof housings and stone guards that cover heavy duty glass to protect your investment.
