The luxury interior, plus many options packages made the allroad quattro not your ordinary wagon. Heated leather seats, dual climate control, power-adjustable seats and memory settings, and a solar sunroof are just a few standard Audi offerings. Or perhaps it was the way the use of lower case letters in its name hinted at a lack of confidence and boldness. Whatever the reason, allroad owners seem to love the way their car handles, with high marks going to the AWD and variable suspension systems. It was awesome. It was popular. But, it broke so much that even MacGyver was left stranded.. Gone was the manual, gone was the V6, gone too were the twin turbos and height-adjustable suspension. Audi simplified the recipe and based the newer allroad on the A4 Avant. Power came from the same 2.0T TFSI inline-4 mated solely to an 8-speed automatic found in the regular A4, pumped up the ride height slightly and added matte black fender lips and Voila. Miffy had a new ride to get to Nordstrom. Worse for some enthusiasts, the advent of the allroad came at the expense of the regular (and attractive) A4 Avant.Now a punching bag by many in the automotive world, I personally don’t think it is worse than any other German car that is over 10 years old. Yes, a twin-turbo V6 and air suspension do make things a little more complicated, but if you stay on top of potential issues, I don’t see the a giant problem with owning one of these. Fortunately, the owner selling this 2001 outside of Cleveland gave this green machine all the love it needs — and maybe even a little more. Greens have all but disappeared from the color pallet over at VAG, but they featured some fetching shades a decade and a half ago. However, unlike the ubiquitous Emerald Mica or Cactus Green Pearl Effect that seemed everywhere in the mid-1990s, these shades are seldom seen in the wild. Which is your favorite? Oddly, as several people noted we’ve seen a fair amount of these converted V8 cars come up for sale quickly after the conversion. So I brought two together today in rare color combinations; if you were going to pick a C5 Avant, which is the one you’d go for? Of course, because of this you don’t have to go back very far in time to find great deals on the last generation of premium 5-doors.The car was available with initially only the 2.7 twin-turbo V6 out of the S4 and A6 2.7T, but later was also available with a 4.2 V8 making for a smooth operator. What differentiated the Allroad from the S6 was a neat package; out of the box, these cars came with height adjustable air suspension that made for both impressive ground clearance and sporty handling in the twisties. Today I’ve cooked up an interesting comparison between the two more desirable versions of the car; the 2.7T mated to the 6 speed manual and the V8 4.2 model. Let’s start with the manual: This car is in a great exterior and interior condition. The color is very nice gray metallic and it’s the original paint. It has 6-cylinder 2.7T engine with all-wheel drive 6-speed manual transmission. Plenty of power combined with famous Quattro all-wheel drive system makes this vehicle the best for all kinds of weather conditions, especially for winters. This vehicle has currently a little over 127,000 miles. This car looks and drives like new and it’s very clean inside and out. Please, look at the pictures, they say it all. It has all matching almost brand new Michelin tires. This system has no issues with lifting up and holding air for weeks. The engine and transmission work great. Timing belt, water pump and all possible seals and gaskets were replaced last week. Only original or high quality german made parts were used, no cheap junk. Check engine light never comes on, neither any other warning lights. No fluids are leaking, no smell of any kind, there are all new brake pads. Please, see the pictures. Radio and climate control buttons are in great shape. BTW, Audi has a recall for burned marks on the seats caused by heating element, so it can be replaced for free. This vehicle just passed NYS inspection and it comes with clean NYS title. If you have any additional questions, please feel free to ask. The Allroads are quite complicated beasties though, and though the seller claims the suspension works perfectly, you can bet either compressor or airbags are going to need to be replaced before long if they haven’t been already. It’s an expensive repair to undertake, though there are upgraded aftermarket parts now available. Alternatively, you can swap in steel springs from either a S6 or A6, though you loose the ride height adjust-ability obviously. Second downside? The two turbos; while they’re great for tuning, they’re more often than not a replacement item as the miles grow, necessitating removal of the motor. Those two things got you down. How about this unique V8: Ultimately, this relaxed the car and though on the books it looks very similar to the S6, it’s a very different car. This particular model is even more different than most, with it’s custom interior and monochrome paint scheme: It also has the automatic and manual variable height suspension. It is automatic with Triptronic shifting. It has had all of the services done in the past 2000 miles and in the last 500 miles had the air suspension and struts replaced. It has new Michelin tires in the last 5,000 miles. It also has legal front and rear window tinting. Email and calls are welcome. This is for local private sale for cash or bank check only. Anyone familiar with the original allroad knows that they were riddled with problems between the 2.7T and the air suspension.To complete the offroad capable look, the allroad has a full 7 inches of ground clearance. This car can certainly walk the walk if the owner was so inclined. One owner vehicle, clean CARFAX.This car is Audi certified, and with only 6,443 miles, you get another 93K miles of coverage, or 6 years from in service date, which is less than 6 months ago offering a better warranty than the original factory warranty. It’s said that new cars depreciate 10 just by driving it off the lot, in most cases that’s bad news, but with a CPO car like this, depreciation is your friend.In 2001 Audi brought the Allroad to the US market as an addition to the C5 A6 roster. Compared to the regular A6, the Allroad featured height adjustable air suspension, allowing for increased ground clearance; larger wheels with all-terrain tires, and the trademark unpainted body cladding. These options coupled with Audi’s legendary Quattro AWD, transformed the A6 in to a station wagon that was as capable off road as a Land Rover, while still keeping its road manners. With all available options, the stunning black paint, and the desirable 4.2 V8 this car represents the pinnacle of the Allroad. In 2013 Audi is releasing the A4 version of the Allroad after an 8 year absence.It is a one owner car that has been garaged its entire career. With the 4.2 V8 option, the very high maintenance 2.7 bi-turbo engine is not an issue. This only leaves the problems with the air suspension.
