Sensors should be located so that they have the least possibility of nuisance switching and activate the lights as soon as a person enters the space. Prevailing energy codes limit the time delay to 30 minutes, thought the latest energy codes are shortening this to 20 minutes. This theoretically allows time delays as short as 1-5 minutes, which can increase energy savings, though more sensors may be needed to avoid the potential for false OFF. If you have one of those, (or some sort of other Leviton smart switch that mentions this model in the manual,) and you know how to wire that switch, then this is what you want and it works great. If you don't have one of those, then definitely don't get this. Two warnings on wiring: 1) This doesn't work like a normal three way switch, this thing only talks to the IPP15, (it can't be wired to the fixture.) 2) This switch needs hot, ground, neutral (white), and the wire running to the IPP15 (red). You might have those colors in your existing 3 way switch box, but they may not be wired that way and may not be adaptable to handle it. There is a green LED on it when it is turned off, so you can find it in the dark.I got them because my wife and children were incapable of turning off lights when they left the room -- my theory is that it's genetic. They install pretty easily, though you need to read the instructions carefully if you are combining multiple sensors and switch wallplates to ensure you wire them up correctly. RTFM before you buy, to make sure you buy the right components in the right number. So now that I have sensors on my lights, I don't need them.There is a short grace period, during which if you just wave your hands in the air, it'll detect that and turn the lights back on. You look dumb but since there's almost certainly nobody else in the room, no harm, no foul.Vendor was quick to ship and fees were in line. Unit comes with excellent instructions as well. Thought I'd add a couple of cautions here. BE SURE TO VERIFY THAT YOU HAVE NEUTRAL WIRE IN BOTH 3-WAY SWITCH LOCATIONS!!! It is not standard practice to include a neutral wire at both switch locations in a 3 way circuit. This is done for cost savings for wire AND time when building the house. This switch IPP0R is an add-on to the IPP15-1L switch to add 3-way control and have a sensor at both locations. Neither of these switches will work without a neutral. Be sure to verify! In the end, this device does not work like ordinary electrical components, both this end and its partner switch require a load line, typical three-way switches do not have continuous power running to both sides. On the other hand it does only use a single traveler. In this regard you can use the other traveler for your continuous load line.Of course, this is just the remote and requires the IPP15, which is the brains of the operation. However, it is a great team player and the different settings that can be used are great.
