This equipment generates, uses and can radiate radio frequency energy and if not installed or used in accordance with the instructions, may cause harmful interference to radio communication. If you are using an uninterruptible power supply (UPS), plug the adapter cable into one of its output sockets. To use this preferred method, ensure your Smart Device and DVR are both on the same network. If this method is not available, please use the QR Code Setup from step 4B below. The DVR username is admin by default. If you are not the admin, login with your username credentials. You can customize camera names, keep track of recent events, create recording schedules, configure advanced motion detection settings, check up on the hard drive’s condition and change other DVR settings. You’ll need a compatible USB Flash Drive to store the data (FAT32 file format only). This is also where you can perform various system maintenance tasks including upgrading your DVR’s firmware, resetting your DVR to its default settings and running hard drive diagnostic tests. To ensure the integrity of your data and recordings, always select Shutdown when powering off the DVR. You may view, tag and export video clips from within this menu. By default, the DVR has motion recording enabled on every channel, configured to operate at an average level of sensitivity. By default, all channels are named as the Camera No.The default format is MM-DD-YYYY. The default format is 24-hour. The default setting is for 24hrs. This is particularly useful if you would like to have different image settings for different times of the day. This setting cannot make the camera see further in the dark or increase the clarity of an image in low-light environment. Useful if sections of the image “grey out” but setting the contrast too high will degrade image quality. The higher the saturation, the more bright and vivid colors will appear to be. Setting the sharpness too high will make your pictures look pixelated. Setting the sharpness too low will make everything look soft and blurry. You can easily copy the current camera’s image settings to other cameras. Simply click Copy, select which cameras and then click OK. This will extend or shorten the Night Vision settings of your cameras. If the sensitivity is set to high, the camera will require less light change to switch to Night Vision, thereby extending Night Vision. If the sensitivity is set to high, the camera will require more light to switch to Day Vision, thereby extending Night Vision. You can increase or decrease the duration before moving to the next preset position. The zoom and focus controls can also be used. You can use the speed control to determine how fast or slow the camera will move. Keep in mind, formatting the HDD will erase all video files from the HDD. Available language options are English, French and Spanish. Night Owl recommends enabling password protection. You can also enter your own name for the DVR. It is usually not required as the DVR automatically configures them for you when you connect the DVR to your router via the Ethernet cable. It is recommended to leave the current default setting for the best streaming performance. This option is enabled by default and is the recommended way for the DVR to receive an IP address from your router. If you require the DVR to have a static IP address, you will need to disable this option. Static networks require all devices to have their IP addresses manually defined, as there is no device dedicated to automatically assigning addresses. This MUST be set to the default address 255.255.255.000. This should always be the IP address of the connected router. It is recommended to leave the default setting. The default period of 60 minutes is recommended. If you’re using pool.ntp.org, ensure the port is 123. For commonly used mail server settings, see “Common Email Provider Settings” below.The DVR can send email notifications to up to three receivers. This can be any email address you like, however, bear in mind that the DVR might send a large number of automatic emails under certain conditions. For motion-based email alerts, this will be an image of whatever triggered the motion detection. ? When an exception occurs, the DVR displays the icon on the Live View screen. By configuring the action for these events, you can create any combination of audio alerts or auto-emails to be sent for different event types. These logs are stored in the DVR’s hard drive and can be viewed and exported at any time. Once the update is complete, the DVR reboots automatically. There are two options available: Factory Default: Will reset all the parameters including network and user settings. If you are going to connect to your display via BNC, you will need a BNC male to RCA male cable (as shown on the right). If you want to connect both a video and audio, you will need two such cables. Please follow the instructions to successfully connect your display and audio via BNC connection: On the male BNC end of your cable, you will see two slots. Line up the slots with the protrusions, as shown in the picture below: If you are making an audio connection, plug in the RCA male end of the cable to either the white or red ports on your monitor. The following instructions will show you how to plug in the wires from the external system to the DVR. Your connection may vary depending on the specific camera purchased. The protrusion in some ceases can also be a pin that is housed inside of the female component. Connect the camera power adapter to a power outlet near the DVR. In most cases, you will have a 4-port power splitter cable. If so, connect the female end of the 4-port splitter into the male end of the power adapter. Refer to 1a on the diagram for reference. In most cases, your cameras will come with a cable with two separate connectors on each end. One of the connectors is for the power, and the other is for video. Connect the male power and video BNC end of the cables to the female power and video BNC connectors on the camera. Refer to 1b on the diagram for reference. Connect the male BNC connector at the end of the cable that is not connected to the camera to the desired channel input on the backside of the DVR. Connect the male power connector at the end of the cable not connected to the camera to a female power connector from step 1. Please refer to the manual provided with your camera to determine the wires. Give the wire a light tug to ensure that it is securely clamped. Using a pencil and the holes in the mounting bracket as a guide, mark three holes against the wall where you wish to mount the camera. Place the anchor with the closed end evenly into the hole. Gently tap the open end until the anchor is almost flush with the wall. Fasten your camera to the mounting bracket using either the hole found on the top or bottom of the camera. Rotate until the camera is securely attached to the mounting bracket.
