I personally found factory defaults excellent and have left them in place thus far. Many more ultra-fine settings are available from further within the menus to satisfy even the most critical viewer I would think. The LC46D65U is physically striking with its piano black outlined screen, piano black stand, and a small light grey speaker panel running below the screen. The sets corners are quite square but I don't find this a distraction as other reviewers have mentioned. The picture quality is outstanding. My input feed is satellite (no HD package as yet) and DVD. The LC46D65U renders all input sources with radiant color, crisp detail, black blacks, and excellent contrast. Input connections are numerous and cover the field for external hookups. I won't be using the LC46D65U with a PC, but the connection is there for those that may. CONS: The remote is functional but has very small buttons and even when illuminated are still hard to see. I'm familiar with the button layout as my other Aquos has a very similar remote, but do feel for those purchasing their first Sharp Aquos and having to use the remote for the first time. It takes practice!! The only other area I feel the LC46D65U lacks in, is audio. It is adequate but not as full as I would like or have become accustomed to. A surround sound system would be the answer for those seeking movie theater sound. All-in-all, the Sharp Aquos LC46D65U is an outstanding set.We receive over-the-air programming and the T.V. would turn off (green light was still on though) randomly for about 1 to 2 minutes and then turn back on. During this time you just have to wait. You can not change channels or switch inputs.nothing.dead. This would only happen when the T.V. was doing the digital tuning. We ran the antenna through a separate digital converter box and had no issues. Also, never had this issue with any of the other inputs that we connected to with the DVD player, game systems etc. I assumed that we had just received a bad unit, so Amazon exchanged it for us, but the second was even worse, happening up to 3 times in 30 minutes. I agree with the other positive reviewers of this T.V. and had we not had this issue we would be very happy with the Sharp. I think that most owners of this model are not aware of this issue because they are using cable or satellite boxes that perform the digital conversion. There was a certain lack of depth as the picture information appeared somewhat flat to me. I believe this was caused in part by an overactive anti-glare screen, which also decreases the appearance of contrast in a brightly lit room. There was also a evident lack of dark shadow detail. Color information appeared natural and not over saturated. Horizontal and Vertical line information was displayed with no dithering in our HQV Film Resolution Loss Test. The processing was better than even many very high end TVs and one of the only units testing that did not exhibit strobing during this test in any of the test boxes. With a 2:35:1 DVD one needs to use the Zoom aspect ratio feature which weakens definition in the picture even more. This is an impressive result verifying excellent internal processing boards. In the picture at right from this scene from Perfume it's easy to note the dark purple hue creeping into blacks. See Calibration measurements and contrast here. Note the lack of detail in darker areas of clothing. Sharp is known for having high quality LCD panels which they manufacture at their own factories, so I was surprised at this result. We suspect it has to do with the anti-glare screen contained on this LCD. Though this is common with LCD TVs, it is never pleasant. This was also apparent in our HQV Stadium seating test. No moire' pattern appeared but the jerkiness as the camera tracked from one end of the stadium to the other was apparent. Lack of detail in dark areas also accentuated blotching. You will want to use the Zoom setting for 2:35:1 DVDs. With HDMI input signals there is the addition of Dot by Dot and Full Screen options. The Sharp manual gives excellent instruction about which setting to use with varying content. Notice the blurry edges around the horses. There are 5 HDMI inputs with one of these housed conveniently on the side of the TV. There is also a USB port placed there which allows the user to quickly load and view pictures or other content. There is a thin gray metal speaker grill strip accented in the bottom of the unit.It had good pop in the high and mid ranges as we could even discern fret buzz during replay of our Dave Matthews Dolby Digital test DVD. The bass however was weak even with the bass enhancer feature cranked all the way to 10. Overall though I thought the audio performance for TV speakers was excellent.
