After the adapter cable (in the picture above) has been correctly hooked up, three FireWire ports are available - more than the competition provides.The two CDs have lots to offer: while the first (above) has drivers and utilities, the second CD has a so-called Application Pack, containing three extremely useful Norton programs. These are: AntiVirus 2002, for fending off dangerous software; Ghost 2002, for making backups of entire partitions or hard drives; and Personal Firewall 2002, for protecting your Windows PC from attacks from the Internet.Regrettably, the mass production board didn't make it to us in time, so we'll have to give you the results in a brief update later.We welcomed the fact that Elitegroup decided against a fan on the Northbridge - these are generally of low quality and break down sooner or later, anyhow. Because the heat transfer of a simple cooling element suffices, this step taken by many manufacturers is mostly just for looks.Elitegroup has done without Serial ATA so far - considering the fact that the drives are not available, that's certainly no loss.It's a smart move, however, because of the basics it contains. Last but not least, there are also two IDE cables and a floppy cable in the box.Also seen on the picture is the ATX panel required for the correct installation of this board.Though the jacks of the USB and FireWire ports are mechanically identical, their colors match those of the male connectors. Mixing these up should therefore not be an issue.This safety feature, known as DualBIOS, makes sure that the motherboard will still function after a failed BIOS update or a virus attack, by using the secondary Flash ROM with the backup BIOS in case of a malfunction.This adapter, which is included in the box as well, offers not only coaxial but also optical digital output.You also get an abridged version of the installation instructions, a comprehensive manual, a Gigabyte sticker for the case and a CD containing all of the drivers as well as Norton AntiVirus 2002 and Personal Firewall 2002. Even Adobe's Acrobat Reader 5.05 is part of the deal.This was enough to produce respectable results.The PDC20376 can address up to four devices, two of which are designed for Serial ATA (to the left and right of the chip), and the other two that are realized through a conventional IDE channel.On the far right of the picture you can still make out the network controller from Broadcom. The Bluetooth device is integrated in a USB adapter cable and shares one USB port. Removing the sticker on the second USB port on the adapter module (see picture) and hooking up a USB device will render Bluetooth inoperative.Two Serial ATA cables are included that are just as short as the competition's. You also get an 80-pin IDE cable and a floppy cable.In the middle at the bottom is the actual manual, followed by brief instructions on Serial ATA.The name is short and catchy.We aren't too happy about the Northbridge fan; especially when you're on a bare-bones-only course, as QDI is, you can do without this kind of component.So, if you need a board that's as basic as possible, that works simply and is even fast, you'll fare well with the KuDoZ 7X.Considering its basic level of equipment, though, you shouldn't expect too many add-ons. QDI does offer a nice overclocking utility called StepEasy that makes it possible to easily increase the FSB clock under Windows.However, you can't just fill these up any way you like - the chipset will only allow one single module at 400 MHz, two at 333 MHz and three or four at 266 MHz. That's a limitation every user will have to live with.Basically, because all power supply units available on the market these days offer this socket (current specifications require it), we see this as an advantage rather than a disadvantage.The slot adapter in the bottom of the picture even accommodates coaxial digital output for the sound system.Similar to the Biostar, various components sport different colors - the five PCI slots are violet, the RAID controller ports (Highpoint HPT372) are yellow, the connectors for USB ports 3 and 4 as well as 5 and 6 are green.You can't buy this nifty little device separately yet.As with many other boards in this test, this cable is so short that drives in the upper parts of tall towers are out of its reach.This includes useful programs such as Adobe ActiveShare, Norton Ghost 2002 and AntiVirus 2002.For this reason, we reduced the benchmarks to a reasonable number and also changed some parts. In lieu of Unreal Tournament, we are now using Unreal Tournament 2003, as this requires significantly more performance and also utilizes DirectX 8 features. Instead of the synthetic benchmark 3DMark, we have begun using Comanche 4.MSI rakes in points with its integrated Bluetooth module, while Gigabyte turns out to be the overclocking pro - it is the only board to offer the option of running the Athlon at 200 MHz FSB without simultaneously overclocking PCI and AGP. Soyo stands out with its USB module for the bay, which certainly boosts the level of convenience if you have to switch your USB devices frequently. QDI goes for minimalism by omitting any kind of hardware that might push the price up.With DDR400, the top performers are Asus (A7V8X), Gigabyte (GA-7VAXP), and, in many benchmarks, QDI (KuDoZ 7X), as well.In this specific case, though, we do recommend taking a critical look at our benchmark results, as the variation is as high as 10 depending on the benchmark. One exception is the Elitegroup board which will not hit the market with this revision and BIOS. The production boards are said to provide considerably more performance; unfortunately, we did not receive a more current model in time.Our recommendation is based quite simply on the high equipment standard of the boards and the undisputedly great performance with DDR333. Sima Ladislav Nozdrovicky Koloman Kristof Within our research we have tested spinning disc fertilizer spreader VICON RS-L and fertilizer calk ammonium nitrate with dolomite (trade mark LAD 27) was used. Experiment was conducted on a flat land with balanced micro-relief after harvest of the perennial forage crops. It was carried 6 variants of experiment with two working speeds 8 km.h-1 and 12 km.h-1 and with three fertilizer application rates 100 kg.ha-1, 200 kg.ha-1 and 300 kg.ha-1. Each variant of experiment was repeated four times. The fertilizer spreader was set according to the manufacturer requirements for this type of fertilizer and for the maximum spreading width (in our case for 42 meters). The value of the coefficient of variation was used as a basic parameter to assess the quality of fertilizer spreader work. For the spreader line spacing 24 m the coefficient of variation varied within the range 7.87 -13.60 and for 36 m spacing line varied within the range 25.87 -38.11 . Working speed negatively affects the uniformity of fertilizer application. With increasing of working speed the quality of work was decreased. We have recommended to reduce the working speed of the fertilizer spreader to optimize the spreader spacing line in order to achieve higher work quality of the fertilizer spreader.Irregularity of distribution fertilizer on the field has a negative environmental effect. Kweon Portland Convention A method was proposed which employs control of the drop location of fertilizer particles on a spinner disc to optimize the spread pattern uniformity. The system contained an optical sensor as a feedback mechanism, which measured discharge velocity and location, as well as particle diameters to predict a spread pattern of a single disc. This pattern was combined with a mirrored pattern from a second disc to produce a complete transverse pattern of a dual disc spreader. Subsequently, the transverse pattern was used in simulations in which the patterns from both spinner disc were rotated about the disc center, which in practice is achieved by rotating segment type gates such as in the Vicon Rotaflow spreader. The transverse patterns were overlapped in software and the resulting overlapped patterns as a function of the gate angles were evaluated using three criteria, which filter offset patterns, non-robust patterns and patterns with a high sensitivity in CV around a chosen swath width. This led to maps where each gate setting was related to a quality of the spread pattern for a single mass flow value. The optimally uniform pattern was found at the minimum of the quality map. When the mass flow rate changes, the whole process needs to be repeated and a new optimal gate setting found to produce the optimal pattern at the new mass flow rate. The power of the feed gate adaptation method was shown in simulations as well as using real data from a Sulky spinner disc spreader. The results showed that it was always possible to find a spread pattern with an acceptable CV lower than 15, even though the spread pattern was obtained from a rudimentary flat disc with straight radial vanes. The aim of the paper was the comparison of the amounts of carbon dioxide emissions released from the soil into the atmosphere depending on the controlled traffic farming (CTF) and crop residues. Th ree variants of the experiment were realised: before the soil tillage, immediately after the soil tillage, and seven days after the soil tillage. The soil tillage was carried out after the harvest of winter wheat by disc harrow Lemken Rubin 9 with a tractor John Deere 8230 on the loamy soil. The monitoring points were selected in parts of the field with and without the crop residues and in trafficked and non-trafficked areas. The CTF system affects CO2 flux, the amounts of emissions from the non-trafficked areas being higher than those from the trafficked areas. The crop residues left on the field cause a decrease of CO2 flux. The incorporation of crop residues causes an increase of CO2 flux. Parish This article introduces a new Windows-based computer program for analyzing the distribution patterns from granular applicators. The program is a revision of a DOS-based computer program developed in 1986. The algorithms used in the program are identical to the algorithms used in the previous program. The user interface and reports represent a major improvement over the previous version. There are significant changes in the user-friendliness and flexibility of the program. As in the original version, the program is mostly helpful in evaluating the pattern from rotary spreaders of any size, but it can be used with other spreader types. ASAE Standard S341.3 is the basis for the data analysis in the program. The program generates reports on the characteristics of the spreader, the product tested and the testing conditions. It also plots the distribution pattern and produces a tabular report of the rate, coefficient of variation, and extremes in the overlapped swath at different swath widths. View full-text Article Full-text available Effect of the nitrogen fertiliser rate on the nitrous oxide flux from haplic luvisol soil in the lab. We have conducted experiments for 30 days under laboratory conditions in order to eliminate the effect of field factors which could affect the results. The haplic luvisol soil properties were determined by pedological analysis. The amount of N2O emissions emitting from soil was measured by photo-acoustic field gas monitor INNOVA 1412 with multipoint sampler INNOVA 1309. There were carried out 3 variants of the experiment (application rates 0, 500 and 1,000 kg ha-1) with two replications. The fertiliser was incorporated into the soil in sampling tubes to a depth of 80 mm after 24-hours measurement. Subsequently, after every 24 hours of measurements, 48 hours rest was carried out, and this measuring cycle was repeated 10 times. During the experiment the concentration of emissions in sampling tubes considerably varied in comparison with the emissions concentration before fertilising. Maximum values were measured on the 24th day after incorporation of fertiliser for both application rates. The results of our experiment show that the application rate of fertiliser has a significant effect on N2O flux and have confirmed the importance of the accurate and even fertilisers application in order to eliminate the negative environmental effects.
