A solid well-loved family member we can always rely on.I used it a ton the first few years I had it but after a while I would only use it occasionally. I let a family member borrow it for a few years, then it was at my Mom's house where it was left outside, in the rain, in Washington State weather for another 3 years. I didn't know it was being kept outside so I was really mad when I found out it was not even under cover but in a plastic storage bin that wasn't water tight, I thought it was ruined forever. It looked so bad I thought no way it would ever work again and if it did it would be too dangerous to actually use it. Well I was so wrong!! My sister's friend, the one who found it outside, said she and her friends KitchenAid mixers have been through a lot and still worked so she cleaned it up for me and we made sure none of the wires or important parts had been compromised and turned it on and it still worked. There is a little rust on the switch that locks the bowl in place and the switch that controls the speed but it's not that noticeable and doesn't interfere with the function. I'm so happy we were able to save it because I use it all the time again like when I first got it. I don't know how people bake and cook without these things and all though they are kind of expensive it's going to last for years. They are so well made you can buy one second hand and it would still work great. If your wondering why I went so long not using it and how it got left outside for 3 years. I ended up having some medical issues and having to have open heart surgery among other things and it's been a long road trying to regain basic skills and everyday activites. There is no way I would be able to make a lot of things because I'm not strong enough and don't have the stamina to mix thick things together and having this mixer allows me to prepare food and still have enough energy left to cook it that day. How it got left outside is I had my things stored at my Mom's house and they've been doing construction on her house for like 5 years some stuff got moved outside. I have no idea I'm guessing they didn't realize what was actually in the storage bin when they put it out there. Plus I'm sure they didn't think those bins would end up sitting outside for so long. Most of the stuff that was put outside did end up having to be thrown away because some of the bins were full of water. I was so happy we were able to salvage my KitchenAid and you can't tell it was left outside either. I'm still surprised at how great this mixer is, I highly recommend buying one. My next KitchenAid purchase will be a food processor!It is, I think, the low end of the Kitchenaid mixers, much like the classic. But I also think, from all the reviews I have read that this one will out do and out last the pricier and admittedly prettier Artisian series. I am not an uber baker, so I cannot say how long this would last if I baked everyday. With a little care I think a long time. The directions are very clear about what speeds to use and what amount of specific flours that should be used to ensure that the motor can handle the work. I do make more bread now than I used to, the ease of letting the mixer knead for 10 minutes while I am free to do other things in the kitchen is wonderful. Also for those big holiday meals this takes the work out of everything from baking to mashing potatos. Highly recomended.
