It provides a DC OUT jack that can supply power to other effect pedals when the optional AC adaptor is used. By connecting optional DC cables, you can supply up to 200 mA of power to multiple effect pedals, simplifying the power connections in your pedal board. Now in 2013, Korg unveils its latest rackmount model. The pitchblack Pro features a new 3D visual meter that's so beautiful you'll think of it as an aspect of your stage performance. The three-dimensional expression of light delivers an unprecedentedly visual element. Although it's in a rackmount form factor, the body is ultra-lightweight and slim, allowing it to be used anywhere. The pedal is the same size as a compact effect unit, and has a durable die cast aluminum body. Despite the small body size, the unit features a large LED meter that can even be read in daylight. The pedal offers four different display modes - Meter, Full Strobe, Half Strobe, and Mirror. Meter mode is similar to using a needle meter, Full Strobe mode provides streaming LEDs that stop when you're in tune. Half Strobe mode also offers streaming, but illuminates only the center LED when the pitch is correct. Mirror mode brings the left and right LEDs closer together as the pitch gets closer to its goal. The more out of tune the instrument, the further apart the LEDs will be. The pedal has a true bypass output, passing the input signal directly to the output jack without having any effect on the signal. This allows you to use the Pitchblack with your effects pedals without coloring the effects. The Pitchblack can fit into your pedal board system, and has a DC output to supply power to other pedals in the chain. I keep this on by board and primarily use the strobe setting. The tuner is very accurate and easily as good as the TU-3. It takes 2 coin cell batteries if you don't want to power it from a PSU, and has little legs that extend from the sides to add stability and stop the unit from tipping over when it's stepped on due to how small it is, though you don't have to use these. I have mine velcroed to my pedalboard with no issue. The only criticism I'd have is that it doesn't remember your settings. I use the strobe setting, which isn't the default, so I have to toggle the mode into the strobe setting every time I turn on the pedalboard PSU. Having batteries in the tuner doesn't remedy this, with no battery powered short term memory it seems. Also, I don't gig, but the display isn't as bright as the TU-3, so might not be the best if using it outdoors. Overall, great for the price and highly recommended. I travel a lot and obviously I try to reduce every 100g. It's simple, work fast, has clear and bright screen, few options of tuning visualiser and you can tune not only guitar but bass as well. PROS: - small size - small weight - lot of functions - quite big and bright screen - consumes small amount of power CONS: - unusual type of batteries Well, in that size, AA or even AAA batteries would be simply too big. You can buy these flat batteries in music store or media store (Mediamarkt, Auchan, Photo Joker, etc) and have at least 2 more with you, just in case. Especially if you usually play without external power during the night when shops are closed. SUMMARY: I like my small friend. Send report Total features quality handling small footprint, big display Downer, 21.02.2018 I've used the full size Pitch Black tuner live for maybe 5 years and am very satisfied with it, so decided to try this for home use. The display is surprisingly big and easy to see from a standing position. It is very accurate, so good for intonation adjustments too, and reacts quickly. The display can be hard to see in daylight but I can live with that. However, the note names are hard to read close up as the lit parts of the letters also illuminate the non-lit parts. The tiny batteries ARE included, despite what it says in the description. The battery compartment cover could eventually fail, it has a small plastic tab which seems a bit flimsy - but luckily I don't foresee having to change the batteries very often. Also most mini pedals have no battery capability whatsoever, so it's good overall, especially when you can't be bothered to get out your power supply just to tune up. For this reason, it makes a great tuner for backstage and is small enough to fit in your pocket. For those who want a mini tuner, this is the best one out there. Works fine on bass too. UPDATE: I tried using this during a daytime gig outdoors and the display was IMPOSSIBLE to read. Even cupping it in my hands, it was still totally unreadable. I couldn't tune my bass with it at all. Had to use a PolyTune. I have to take some stars off the rating for that. Amazon Customer 5.0 out of 5 stars Buy it now! Now, this is my second one, and of course it works flawlessly also. Why did I buy this tuner again. Because this is the best tuner on the market. Bar none. The letters are clearly lit as well as the bright LED meters. This tuner works on a 9V battery or a power adapter. This tuner pedal looks amazing. It is sleek, modern, and has a tough aluminum die cast body. Buy this Korg Pitchblack Chromatic Tuner now. You won't regret it.Invest in this pedal, which seems built to last! I've used a Korg DTR 1 for nearly two decades and it has always been flawless. I expect the same from pedal. This unit did NOT include a power supply, which is okay because it's going right into a pedal board with a power supply. I'm quite sure I'll get more than a year in the studio and 3 gigs out of this tuner. LOVE it so far!Finds the note fast, is very sensitive and very stable at the same time. I ordered an AC adapter directly from Korg and they jobbed it out to a company in Illinois that builds adapters. It is ok, but has the minimum power specifified for the tuner. I doubt that it will power additional components on a pedal board, though, in fairness I haven't tried it as a pass-through power supply. Some of the modes don't suit me very well, but that is a matter of preference. They work fine. My favorite is the simple center needle mode. I mostly use it sitting on the amp and always on (with power supply) rather than as a pass-through box. It works fine in pass-through mode and is perfectly quiet, it's just more convenient for my setup to have it sitting on top of the amp. My amp has a tuner out so I am completely outside of the signal path for the amp. I think it's the best of both worlds. The tuner is heavy, sturdy, and very easy to see and use. Even though I don't use all of its features regularly, it's nice to have them for situations that may come up. I would definitely buy another one if I wasn't already up to my ears in tuners of other kinds. The price here is much better than I have found elsewhere. All three work perfectly. Very easy to tune my basses. One is for my younger son who just started playing the bass. The other are for me (one as a backup). The reason why I gave this latest tuner only four stars is because one of the metal connectors that attaches to the 9v battery is too loose and barely hangs on to the battery post. I may have to tape it down to keep it in place. The other two tuners don't have this issue. Still, it's the best around. Buy it!It has an absolutely silent mode that mutes for tuning without clicks or pops when switched in, and its bypass (tuner off) mode is totally transparent to tone. Its 4 tuning modes make selecting one that works best for you extremely simple (I personally prefer full strobe). Its tuning is quick and accurate, and it doesn't hunt for pitches like some tuners will, especially with a 6-string bass. The display is bright and clear. It's rugged, well thought out, solidly built, and simple. My only complaint is with the calibration mode: it's just a series of non-self-explanatory numbers that change when you hit the calibration button. Its explained in the manual, but could be clearer. I'd buy this again without hesitation, though.Works fiine! I was wrong. I must have switched cords and put a stereo cord on. The unit won't work with a stereo plug. I thought Korg was sending me failed units. The units were fine, and sturdy, and it was my not realizing I swapped out cords and was now playing with a stereo cord attached to my guitar. Korg customer service and product support was great. They answered all my complaints about the unit, provided me with new units to try, even tested my units that I returned eventually. When they told me they all worked I knew there was an issue on my end but i could not figure it out. A friend is an electrical engineer and he noticed that my cord was a stereo cord and that I should try a mono cord. That did it. Works great just like before. Thanks Korg.Visible and silent when tuning. I recommend it for anyone who has steady gigs. (even if not) The only reason for 4 stars is, that I bought one 5 years ago and it became intermittent during live shows. The switching pretty much stopped. I might have a heavy foot, or come across it, or something. But this pedal should have lasted. I have a 32 year old Ibanez Tube Screamer that still works great. How about a better switch, Korg. We'll see how long my new one will last.20 bucks more this time around.I play 5 string, and wanted to have a pedal that would properly register the B string, even if I choose to detune it. And the bottom line is, this pedal does it. I don't get any noise when switching the tuner on and off, the pedal was easy to set up for display mode - it does everything I want it to, the way I want it to. The only reason it's 4 stars instead of 5 is it's not the fastest reacting tuner. It takes a moment to pick up and show you what you have on the display. Other than that, there's nothing to knock this pedal for. This isn’t one of those. The best thing I can say about it is that I’ve barely noticed it. It has sat on its pedal board for around 8 months and done its job without any fuss. It feels robust, it’s easy to read, it’s easy to use, it tunes my guitar, it tunes my bass and it does it all quickly enough for me. I don’t know how it compares to other industry standards for speed and accuracy but I don’t notice any obvious differences between this and a Boss TU3 I’ve used in the past. It’s accurate enough and fast enough for rehearsal and gig purposes so if that’s what you’re using it for then it should serve you well. There are a few displays to choose from but I use mine in standard (meter) mode as the other ones do my head in.I read reviews of several makes. The best ones were often pretty pricey and the cheap ones all seemed to have major drawbacks. This one fitted neatly in the middle. Reasonable cost and pretty positive reviews, so I spent my money. No regrets. This tuner is very simple to use and easy to read in almost any lighting conditions and the accuracy seems spot on. I only use the default setting although it has a few metering modes and the ability to tweak the pitch. For normal guitar use, though, default is all you'll need. The casing seems rugged and durable although I guess only time will tell. Right now I'm happy I made a good choice. The display is clear and bright with the note being played prominently displayed with the sliding scale above showing if the note is sharp, flat or in tune. The sliding scale starts on the left hand side as a flat note, moves towards the middle as the note gets closer to natural with the middle bar showing as in tune, then finishes on the right hand side as a sharp note. This not only makes standard tuning easy but drop tuning is easily achieved too and when used as part of a peddle board the bypass means you can re-tune as required without anyone else hearing. Overall, a well though out piece of kit that looks like it has been designed by people who understand what a musician requires of a tuner. Well worth the money. You can definitely use it for intonation. It has a strobe functionality which makes it extremelly precise, when setting up the intonation. If you are OCD like me, just use the chromatic for day to day tuning (otherwise you'll spend hours trying to get a perfect pitch). Plus really inexpensive vs Pearson and al. 9v battery is included. If you want to plug it to the main, you'll need to buy a 9v adaptor. I can be used to spread power to other pedals on your pedalboard too.The display is not what I was used to having had a YoYo tuner before. But if you use it correctly and keep your eye on the two right and left arrows and note when you have a slight red light appear either side of the main green central indicator (as the instructions tell you - I like many just wanted to get on and use it from the box, bypassing the instructions)it works very well. My ears have become increasingly more sensitive to pitch variation, and find many tuners just don't have the accuracy, this does, if used properly. It mutes the sound perfectly when in operation, without any crackle or noise when switching. Nice product. It seems to be well constructed and robust too.
