On Cont amination on the Screen Surface The screen surface has a special coa ting to reduce reflections. Carry the TV in th e Specified Manner If you carry the TV in a manner other than the specified manner and wit hout the specified number of persons, it may drop and a serious inj ury may be caused. Be sure to follo w the instructions mentioned below.About the TV Although the TV is made with high-precision technology, black dots may appear or bright points of light (red, blue, or green) may appear constantly on the screen. T his is a structural property of the panel and i s not a defect. Installation s If direct sunlight or other strong illumination shines on the screen, part of the screen may appear white due to reflections from behind the screen. This is a structural property of the TV. Do not expose the screen to direct illumination or direct sunlight.For the best picture quality, install your TV according to “Recommended Viewing Area” on page 14.Projection Lam p s Your TV uses a projection la mp as its light source.You may hear the noise of fan r unning, depending on the placement of your TV. The nois e may be more noti ceable during the night or when the background noise level is low.Dust in the rear cover area may cause a problem with t he cooling system of the TV set. When the condensation has e vaporated, the pictur e wil l return to normal. Screen T o minimize reflection, the screen surf ace has a special coating. Inappropriate cleaning methods could damage the screen s u rface. Special care is requ ired. Clean ing the Scre en Surface Dust and dir t on the screen can affect the picture qu ality. T o dust of f the screen use a s oft cloth. Be s ure to follow the cleaning instruction on pa ge 6 for stub born stains and dirt. Proj ection Lamp Y our TV uses a projection l amp as its light sou rce. As with an y lamp, it has lifespan and need s to be replaced wh en the Lamp indicator f lashes or the screen becomes darker. Note the follo wing. After t urning on y our TV, it may take a while (1 mi nute or les s) before the picture appea rs. ? When the projection l amp wears ou t, the screen go es dark. Replace the lamp with a ne w Sony XL-2400 re placement lamp (not supplied). Indicator Fla shing because. When it is ready, it t urns on.The red indic ator will c ontinue to flash in inte rvals of three blinks at a time until the l amp door or the lamp is placed correctly. When the la mp door or the lamp is securely attached, the TV will turn on with green indicator. LAMP indi cat or flashe s The pr oject ion lamp ha s b urned out. Replace it wi th ne w one ( see pa ge 86). TIMER i ndicator is lit When one of th e timers is set, the i ndicator will rem ain lit (will not fla sh) e ven when the TV is tu rned off. T o a void e ye discomf or t or inju ry, do no t look into the light housing w hen the power is on. Doing so ma y cause these parts to break of f. When mo ving the TV, place one hand in the hole o n the lo wer portion of the TV while grasping the top with the other hand, as shown in the illustration below. If you h ave connected cables and cords, be sure to unplug them b efore moving the TV. T ake Precaution during Instal lation T o ensure the safety of children and the TV, keep children away from the TV duri ng insta llat ion. Cli mbin g on or pushin g the TV or it s stan d may ca use it to fall and damage the TV. Do not gr asp the pede stal or the front pan el of th e TV.When Install ing Y our TV agains t a W all K eep your TV at least 4 inches (10 cm) a way from the wall to p rovide proper ventilation. When th e red LED blink s only three t imes, the la mp door o f the lamp unit or the lamp itself is not secu rely a ttached (see page 88 ). 8 (IR) Infrared Receiver Rec eives IR sign als fr om the r emote contro l. (Co ntinu ed) It is stro ngly recommended to conn ect the antenna using a 75 -ohm coaxial cable to receive optimum pict ure quality signal. A 300-o hm twin lead cable can be easily affected by radio noise and the like, resulting in signal deterior at ion. If yo u use a 300-ohm twin lead cable, k eep it as far away as poss ible from the TV. Making Video and A udio Connections The signals that enter your TV and connected devices will need to output in the correct for mat using the suitable con nections. Below ar e different types of video connecto rs av ailable these days. Y our TV comes with all types of connectors with the exception of the D VI connector b ut your cable box or satellite recei ver may be equ i pped with this type. When connecting your TV, use the inputs that are av ailable on your de vices that pro v ide the bes t video perf ormanc e, as d escrib ed be low.Example of an S VIDEO Connec tion About Using HDMI to D VI Adapte r If you ar e connecting equipment with D VI connector with t his TV, you will need to use an ad apter. Y ou can use an HDMI- to-D VI cable or an HDMI adapter (not s upplied). Both are av ailable from your l ocal electronics st ore. Con nect re d to red, whi te to whit e, etc. ? When usi ng a HDMI-to-D VI cable or an adapter, be sur e to conne ct the D VI output con nector first; then co nnect to the HDMI input on y our TV. After the service is acti vated with your cable TV company, the card replaces the need for a sep arate set-top box. About Using CableCARD Devi ce If you ar e planning to use a s eparate cabl e box for d igital cable TV serv i ces, you may be able to receiv e programming us i ng this TV with the CableCARD de vice instead — except in the follo wing circumstances. Y our cable TV compan y does not provide C ableCARD service in your vie wing area. ? Y ou w ant to access your cable TV compan y’ s interactiv e or advan ced features ( such as v ideo-on-demand or, in some cas es, pay-per -view). At this time, these services requir e a bidirectional link, which are only a v ai labl e through the u s e of a separ ate set-top box. CableCARD dev ice is currently a unidirectional devi ce only, and cannot pro vide these adv anced services. Check with your cab le TV compan y for CableCARD service details, limitations, pricing, and av ailab ility, all of which are determined by your cable TV compan y — not Sony. Acti vating CableCARD Service Before you can use CableCARD service, you need to insert the CableCARD de vice (supplied by you r cable TV company) and acti vate the s ervice, as descr ibed belo w: 1 Insert the CableCARD de vice into the CableCARD slot. 2 Gently push the card into the slot until it locks into place. ? CA UTION: W hen inserting the Cable CA RD d evice, the rear side of the car d should fa ce f orw ar d. Inser ting the Cab leCARD incorrectl y ma y result in perman ent damage to the ca rd a nd the TV. A representativ e wil l guide you thro ugh the acti vation proces s. 5 After your C ableCA RD de vice is activ ated, your cable TV co mpany will download the service information, includ ing the channel list, to the CableCARD de vice. After the CableCARD de vice has acquired channels fr om your cable TV comp any, th e TV tunes to the lowest av ailable channel. Removing th e CableCARD Devi ce In the e vent you w ant to cancel your service, con tact your cable T V compan y. 1 Push the eject b utton on the CableCARD slot to releas e the card. 2 Pull the CableCARD device straight out of the slot to remove it. T o inst all a dif ferent CableCARD device, follo w the ins tructions in “ Act i vating Cab leCARD Servic e” on page 30.Eject button If you choose to set up the channels at a later time, select the Auto Program option in the Channel setting to scan availabl e channels (see belo w). Using Initia l Setu p T o run Initial Setup the fir st time y ou turn on y our TV 1 Press to turn on the TV. The Initial Setup screen appears. 2 Press V or v to highlight the on-screen disp lay language. T o run Auto Progra m at a later ti me 1 Select Se ttings in WEGA GA TE, and then go to Chan nel sett ings. 2 Select Auto Pr ogram then select Start. ? The Initia l Setup featur e does not apply f or instal lations that use a cable box f or all cha nnel selection. ? A uto Program ma y take a wh ile (20 t o 50 minu tes) to complete.
