The more you read you can apply various techniques and thus create a FUN experience in the great outdoors. Kayaking is a great recreational activity once you learn continue to learn to be one with nature. I purchased this book prior to going kayaking in Greece and yes I applied some of the learning's I learned while kayaking in the Gulf of Corinth.yes the Corinth Canal. A great book for the recreational kayaker.Just about every aspect of kayaking is covered: no situation or skill too basic, no technique too expert. Like any good manual, this one allows the reader to select the sections of interest, or read from cover to cover. Well organized, and witty, amply illustrated and ably descriptive, this is a keeper. Just keep it dry! This seemed a tall order and I had my doubts, as someone who has been paddling 20 years, but he nailed it. For me, much of the information in Bill's book was like that. I really should know it but I have been kayaking and instructing for too long now to ask a fellow kayaker. As I progressed into long distance open canoe racing, kayak surfing and sea kayaking I, like most paddlers, didn't bother to go back and take lessons in these disciplines. Consequently this book showed me some pretty big gaps in my knowledge as it covers them all. The pictures on EVERY page will be very helpful for beginners and it was encouraging to see all ages, genders, shapes and sizes represented in the imagery. I hope it makes anyone and everyone feel they could give kayaking a go. There are annotated notes under each photo so even if you only look at the photos and read those you would learn heaps from this book. It is so very readable and Bill has used lovely humour throughout. Also included are some inspiring stories about notable kayakers. I enjoyed looking each of them up online afterwards as I hadn't heard of some of them. I had intended to just skim read the book but found myself getting pulled into reading every word.http://pilot-market.ru/new/files/ktm-350-sxf-repair-manual.xml Number 1 on the list is outfitting my boat!He covers all types of paddle craft, their uses and much more. I've never seen a book yet cover surf skis, wave skis, kayak fishing, sit on tops, sea kayaks, squirt and whitewater boats all together. Most kayaking books have poor instructional illustrations but Bill's diagrams make rolling look easy. He also covers gear, tying a boat to your car and clothing for various situations. Definitely worth picking up!But still excellent. All instructions are coupled with clear photographs Great book.It answers questions (such as when you should wear PFD’s or not) that you may have been too embarrassed to ask, and it all makes sense. It covers all manner of skills and technical information, plus much background advice and anecdotes about the wider kayaking world. It is a good book both as a reference and a coffee table read. I well recommend it.The author has researched the subject well and presented it in a format that is easy to follow whilst offering lotts of essential tips for the budding kayaker. This manual is also a superb tool for any coach who wishes to use the text and illustrations in conjunction with formal tuition. If you are a kayaker this modern classic is a must for your book shelf. Please choose a different delivery location. Please choose a different delivery location. Please try again. From an offbeat pastime enjoyed by an adventurous few, the sport has become an industry unto itself. Sea Kayaking covers the basics of equipment and technique, including types of paddles and strokes. But the key focus in this revised and updated edition is on sound seamanship and good risk management: how to read the weather and the water, how to navigate, how to travel with a group.http://www.raumboerse-luzern.ch/mieten/boss-metalizer-manual Drawing on his long experience paddling in all climates, Dowd presents practical, concrete advice on dealing with potential hazards (from surf to sea ice to sharks) and carrying out rescues. The book contains new photographs and numerous helpful charts, diagrams and illustrations. It also covers expedition planning, instructional methods and sea kayaking for people with disabilities. As more and more paddlers take to the water, this classic guide continues to be required reading for those seeking adventure on the open ocean. Michael Condon 5.0 out of 5 stars Wish I had read it before other trip I have taken. It's also very interesting to read, especially expedition stories.Beyond this, is a good kayaking book that explains concepts of navigation, waves, tydes, and some more facts oriented to long kayak trips.A little daunting for a neophyte just learning.I finally stuck tis book somewhere and will robably never go back to it. A lot of information which is contained in other books. He's been kayaking for over thirty years, and he's done some of the most difficult voyages in kayaking history. He's specific in his recommendations, but open minded, too. He favors feathered paddles, but he understands the advantage of unfeatehred paddles, and allows how they may be superior in many conditions.http://genialica.com/images/combbind-c800-manual.pdf Dowd's advice isn't based on theory, but on experience. He's not afraid to admit his own mistakes, and in this latest edition, he desribes how he's changed a lot of his opinons on the rescue techniques he's taught in the past. He's realistic, and realizes that not every kayaker is going to develop a bombproof roll or be able to perform the Borze's paddlefloat rescue; he endorses alternate techniques like he (somewhat contentious) Sea Wings. What it boils down to is this: Whatever other books you may own, whatever lessons you may have taken, whatever your level of experience- you need this book.A real inspiration. The renowned professional kayaker and co-founder of Nookie Paddlesports Equipment has often found a voice in the pages of the UK’s kayaking magazines. In April of last year, he added another contribution to his writing achievements, in the form of the Haynes Kayaking Manual: An Essential Guide to all Kinds of Kayaking. Luckily, Bill takes the book in another direction, teaching sound paddlesport principles, which you can then build upon yourself. It should be noted here that this is a kayaking book. Although time is spent discussing touring and multi-day trips, this is not a resource aimed at canoeists. For our one bladed friends, I can recommend the excellent “ Canoeing” by Ray Goodwin. Moving on, Bill tackles the subjects of paddle strokes, open water, white water and sea kayaking, before looking at the competitive disciplines, with insights from the pros. The photographs are beautifully composed, with happy paddlers shot in warm locations.Time after time, I found myself agreeing with Bill, as he tackles concepts and aspects of technique that I learnt several years in to my paddling career. He manages to express his opinions without pulling any punches and often with a humorous, chatty style. As experienced paddlers, we do it without thinking, but we forget how some things are not quite so obvious at first. Likewise, his discussion of outfitting boats is the first time I’ve seen so much useful information in one place. Presented in color with easy-to-follow, step-by-step photographic sequences and inspirational action images, the Kayaking Manual covers everything from flat water through to ocean paddling, white water and surfing. By Pam Norfolk Wednesday, 24th April 2013, 10:00 am Beginners generally learn their kayaking skills in a sit-on-top boat on calm water and then move on to the general purpose closed-cockpit kayak which is perfect for learning almost all kayaking skills. But no matter whether you simply fancy paddling gently and taking in the scenery around you, or prefer hurtling down terrifying rapids, Mattos reckons that being able to swim 50 metres unaided in normal clothing, including shoes, is a safe minimum for venturing afloat in any kind of boat. A basic fitness level for basic kayaking would be the ability to lift your boat on and off the car, carry it to the water, climb into it and swim if needed. Of course, there are many different kinds of kayaking, from whitewater boating, sea kayaking, creeking and playboating to adventurous paddling, squirt boating, running rapids and running drops. This definitive book also explains the clothing and equipment required for every type of kayaking and, of course, the boats and paddles themselves, as well as weather, hydrodynamics, safety and rescue. Kayaking is a growing sport both in Europe and in the US and Mattos takes us through all the different elements such as slalom, freestyle, sprint, marathon, polo and kayak surfing. The Kayaking Manual is both a brilliant introduction to this exciting sport and a useful back-up for experienced paddlers and amateur or professional groups in need of an accomplished kayaker to guide them through the practices and pitfalls. So with spring in the air and the great outdoors beckoning, there couldn’t be a better time to discover the thrills and spills of kayaking!
