Press PLAY on your turn, and the computer will make the next move for you. As shown in the charts of playing levels in the following paragraphs, each level corresponds to one of the 64 board squares. If you wish to play speed chess, or “instant death”, you can select from a range of times which are allowed for the game to be completed. These levels also limit how many individual moves ahead the computer looks, but in this case the computer does not evaluate strategic advantages, and looks only for material gain such as checkmate or draws. To change the level, simply press a board square, and the new level alternating with the level details will show in the display. Note that the method chosen for playing the Openings Coach is retained in memory until re-selected. We recommend the Liberon Pasta Wax. Please be sure to carefully follow the manufacturer's instructions on the paste wax carefully, since improper waxing could ruin the finish on your chess pieces. Above all - use the wax sparingly and allow the wax to dry before polishing. You should never use a polished liquid. In other words, you must divide the diameter of the King's base by 0.78 to determine the ideal square size for the chessboard. If you buy a chessboard that has a square size smaller than what is considered the minimum, the pieces will be packed together on the chessboard. This will significantly increase the likelihood that the chess pieces will be hit during the heat of the battle. Keep in mind that this formula will determine the minimum square size for the chessboard. As a rule, in Vintage Chess we try to make the customer satisfied and in almost all sets we include a wooden box for the preservation of the pieces. All models will be served in a cardboard box with protection that preserves the set in the transport. In the other Vintage Chess sections, the vast majority of the sets are weighted. They are not weighted any of the models of the genuine Vintage Chess section and those chess of the oulet section that for aesthetic reasons and balance in all its parts the craftsman has not given more weight to the whole. Ebony is more expensive than rosewood, which is, in turn, more expensive than boxwood, etc. The quality and detail of the Knights is another price factor. A set of finely carved knights can represent up to 50 of the total cost of a chess. Then, the quality of the chips, the finish and the uniformity also increase the cost. Most sets made in China are relatively cheap. They are almost always of very poor quality. Chinese manufacturers also ignore copyright laws and will make false copies of almost anything on the market. Why buy a lower copy of something genuine that can last a long time? We are very proud of our packaging that guarantees the package is waterproof and shockproof and the fragile items are protected safely with bubble wrap. In addition, some of the products of the Championship Chess collection will go in their luxury box for greater preservation and exhibition of the product. If the customer wants a gift wrap, he has to say it before sending. Please try again. Tested and working. Comes with Owner's Manual. Requires 3 AAA batteries, not included. Mostly because it is nice to play through games on, but now I also want to play against it. Its been some years since I used it last time so I can't remember how the level command work (a1-8, b1-8 etc.) It looks almost like the Travel Chess on Saitek's site with the buttons somewhat rearranged but mine is probably a bit older. Someone here with a manual (or good memory) that could tell me how to operate the level command. Odd Gunnar Mostly because it is nice to play through games on, but now I also want to play against it. Odd Gunnar Steve B wrote: To select the different levels I push the level button and then set (push) a piece on the wanted square (a1-h8). I tried A1,A7,B1,C1,D1 and it blundered even a queen in 2 move comb. Then I tried h8 and h1, here it used very much time (move 1: 1 min., move 2: 3.15, move 3: more than 20 min. (i stoped it here)), this could be some fixed ply or mate search. I think I should be able to have some fun game around this level with change my opening moves a bit. Steve B wrote. Thanks, I guess I must prepare before next trip. To trust any lcd thing (phone or touchchess) is hopeless in the sun. The Chessman also misses an opening book to vary its play a little. Odd Gunnar. Arthur Holland 2.0 out of 5 stars It has not yet been used much, but appears to be a very nice set that will last him for many years and many challenges. He's a member of the chess club at his school and definitely appreciated the quality of this set. Definitely worth the price we paid, very happy with the purchase. The pieces came missing a pawn. One rook was weirdly melted asymmetrically. (How do you do that when they're made out of wood?). All pieces are so lightweight they fall over. Really crummy. Wish we had not bought.Very poor quality control. It was quite the hit when opened Christmas morning. However, today, after the company left and we decided to try the chess set, we quite disappointed to find 3 black bishops not two. And, there is only one black rook. Though they happily counted the white pieces correctly, the set can't be used. I bought the set in late October, it's too late to exchange. Their quality control was poor.I also liked that it came with a comprehensive instruction booklet. I am going to look for a nicer set of pieces to match up with this board before I give it to my grandson for his birthday.
