Position the backplate against the underside of the mainboard, secure the 4 screws firmly on the retention module. Align and insert the CPU correctly. Press the lever down. Apply thermal grease on top of the CPU. Put the CPU Fan down on the retention module and snap the four reten- tion legs of the cooling fan into place. You must install at least one module in any of the two slots. Each module can be installed with 32 MB to 1 GB of memory;. Your mainboard has a primary and secondary IDE channel interface (IDE1 and IDE2). The configura- tion is the same as IDE1. IDE devices have jumpers or switches that are used to set the IDE device as MASTER or SLAVE. Refer to the IDE device user’s manual. When installing two IDE devices on one cable, ensure that one device is set to MASTER and the other device is set to SLAVE. You can install a 5.25-inch drive and a 3.5-inch drive with various capacities. The floppy diskette drive cable has one type of connector for a 5.25-inch drive and another type of connector for a 3.5-inch drive. Testing with a flash drive, it didn't even light up, and it seemed to disable the built in usb ports as well. Had to shut down the system for a couple of minutes to get them working again. Anyway, if you still not sure you can use a multimeter and check what voltage in agp slot is feeding. Here you can check what pinout is feeding 3.3V or 1.5V- test in 'hot' with a pure agp3.3v VGA card and take out what is the voltge. ps. So i went into the bios, now you need to know that i am a newbie when it comes to this stuff. But, with this one, the manual says nada about setting. So i went to ADVANCED CHIPSET FEATURES\dram clock\drive control, and i changed the dram clock to 133 from 100, i cant remember if it goes higher than that, should it. Then i went to FREQ\VOLTAGE CONTROL and i changed that from 100 to 132 and that was as far as it would go. In addition, i went back into bios and went to freq\voltage control again. I keyed in 133 and it accepted that. But i exited and didnt save that, left it at 132. Now, can someone please tell me if i am on the right track. Any help or info you can give me would be appreciated, both for this particular setup and in general as well. Any links to tutorials or info on these types of setting would also be appreciated. I am afraid i dont know much about this area, like you dont already know that, lol. thanks Then, set the CPU speed to 133 MHz with a different MB jumper(see manual). That should get the CPU correctly recognized. Do not configure the DRAM clock setting at 133 MHz as this will either cause instability or fry the RAM, since PC1600 DDR is designed to run at 100 MHz only. Also, do not reconfigure anything in the 'Frequency Control' section. Weird thing is, there is nothing in the manual or on the ECS website about the jumper settings! thanks Although, i did find the cmos when i first got the board, easy to spot, its usually right near the battery and often marked CMOS, duh for me!!! I didnt worry about reading about the cmos as i have done enough to know where to find it and how to move the jumpers. But the next page was the FSB settings, silly me. It worked but kept freezing up when i went into the bios to make some changes, so i took that ram out and put some 2100 in, seems to be working fine now. Its a wonder i didnt fry the other ram. I put in PC2700 (333) memory and still could only run at 133. I'm using a XP2200 CPU and I found that anything under XP2500 core is only 133. The strange thing is that the Duron 1.6 that came with the board runs at 166! It froze up trying to run the pc1600 ram at 133 and it seems ok with the 2100 ram, left it running for an hour at 133. Guess i better put some different ram in. I only changed it to PC2700 to try to get 166 FSB. To everyone else: is there any way to use 166 FSB without changing the CPU. This board has single jumper settings for choice of 100,133 or 166. My old K7S5A had seperate settings for CPU and memory. This is a new style mobo with no Bios upgrades yet. With pc chips tech support not even existing, i didnt think i would get an answer from ECS but i did. I asked them since i have version 8.0 of this mobo, what is the highest mhz cpu i could install. If you are using a CPU with FSB 333, please make sure you are using DDR333. Memory speed will automatically set to DDR333 while using FSB 333 CPU. Using DDR266 with a FSB 333 CPU will cause instability on the system. I think its 133 but thats only a guess, i know so little about amd cpu's its embarrasing. So little i shouldnt even use them, lol. So you are ok if you have the MB jumpered for a CPU speed of 133 MHz, and have the DRAM Clock set at 133. However, if the system experiences instability, then you may have to install PC2700 DDR as per the MB manual insert that micker377 mentioned, but leave the 'DRAM Clock' setting at 133 MHz. I put this same info as i have put here and all i got there was a bunch of junk, mixed in with, yes, some proper answers, but that junk really turns a person off. In total 6 pieces of the V3 puzzle. I was quite pissed for not seeing the damage and buying a graphics card which was in essence just a dirty paper weight. Initially I wanted to toss it into my spare parts bin but after so much time inspecting it for other signs of damage the 3dfx letters kept on poping in my head. V-O-O-D-O-O What if I can resurrect it. That will be a story to tell Lets get on with it shall we. The roughed up V3 stood in my car overnight at temperatures around 0 degrees C. I knew that the heatsink was glued on. I tried to remove the heatsink from the first V3 but it was very well glued and I was afraid of damaging the chip. In the case of the roughed up V3 I had nothing to lose In the morning I tried to remove the heatsink by moving it gently. NO DICE! it wouldnt budge! I tried to insert a flat screwdriver in a corner of the heatsink while using a credit card to protect the PCB. Again NO DICE! Very well I'll put you into the freezer.
