He's done some work to it already (paint, wheels, suspension), and has wanted to get into power mods eventually. But he's moving and getting an Evo X. So he basically told me I could have the car provided I do it justice. So here's the question: Has anyone done an auto to manual conversion on a K24 Accord. Or even an RSX or TSX. I've done multiple auto to manual swaps on other cars. Once on a civic, one on a 240, and my first one was on my 98 Integra. So I'm no slouch. I'm in school getting my degree in an automotive field. So taking labor costs out of the equation, and knowing I have the skill to do it, is there anything I need to know about the conversion. Is the auto trans mount different than the manual trans. Is there a tcm on these cars. Do I need a full manual engine harness. Etc Thanks for any help you guys can give me. 9 comments share save hide report 100 Upvoted This thread is archived New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast Sort by best I haven't done this swap, This is just a list of what I think will be needed to do the swap. But you know. you might want to consider it. Unless you can find a good donor car with all the parts. Seems to be generally the same list for all auto to manual conversions. I'm just concerned with the frame mounts being the same. Honda likes to do that. Seems to be the general consensus. The car is worth more to me than I could sell it for. It's more than just dollars at the end of the day. But I appreciate the list. I'll be on the lookout for people parting out or for donors. Makes no sense. Anyway.http://findacommodity.com/upload/king-boxing-manual.xml

On the Integra, there was a hole in the firewall with a plate that just unbolted and I was able to bolt in the cmc. I'll have to look at the accord. Not sure if you can modify your existing harness or not. If you want the cruise control to continue working you'll probably need to swap the components for it as well because the actuator is usually built into the pedal assembly. I'm almost positive there's stuff I'm missing, but I think that covers the big stuff. I'm not saying you can't do it but I'm gonna say you shouldn't. That's a lot of time and money spent on a car that isn't going to bring its value up a dime. And really It's never going to be as well executed as a manual from the factory no matter how skilled you are. If it was a classic or rare car, I'd say go for it. But this is a Honda Accord, you should have no problem picking one up in a manual. Most importantly: Don't fix it if it ain't broke. I'm not concerned with the value of the car going up or decreasing. The car is a gift from a good friend, and I could never sell it, which is why I'm considering doing all this nonsense. All rights reserved Back to Top. The RSX, of course, is the replacement for the Integra in the Acura line. The Integra is legendary in the minds of many of us Honda faithful. Don’t get me wrong, the powertrain is brilliant. The Type S’ 200hp K20A2 outshines the B18C in almost every way. It’s six-speed gearbox makes using the power just that much easier. This alone probably accounts for the car’s popularity. Up front are struts rather than the Integra’s double-wishbone design. Didn’t Honda say goodbye to struts way back in 1989 with the first Integra. In the rear we have what Honda calls a multi-link, double-wishbone setup. The geometry is a compromise and is set up for things like compactness and stability under braking. I think the biggest problem is the rear shocks, though; they’re mounted a little too far inboard. Wheel control is less than ideal here.http://0377cw.com/upload/16081438261873398241.xml The general fix is to use the stiffest spring you can find to limit wheel travel and geometry changes. Several pro racing teams use redesigned lower control arms to reduce toe-in on compression, and mount the shocks farther away to fix the problem. That type of fabrication is a little beyond the average enthusiast. Still, the car handles better than most, and can be made fast. Guess again. Project RSX is a lowly base model with the measly 160hp K20A3 engine and power-robbing automatic transmission. All in all, good project car material. The exterior has mystery dents all over. It looks like the somebody tried to move heavy furniture by strapping it to the roof and hood while driving over potholes. There were some half-hearted efforts to get the car ready for paint, though. Dents were ground down to bare metal, trim was removed, and emblems were pulled off.Inside it smelled like the perfume counter at Forever 21. The side of the car was keyed. No doubt some high school drama was going on here. Why exactly do people key cars? It looks like the car was kept outside with the windows rolled up to concentrate the heat inside the car. The leather is cracked and the foam is starting to disintegrate. A seat change is on the list of mods. Just like this. We’re going to make it a little faster, handle a little better, and look like something fun to drive and own. With each modification, we’ll take the car to the track and see if we’re making a positive difference. First up on our to-do list: ditch the automatic transmission. The slushbox eats horsepower, and with a measly 160 of them, we need every poney we have. Slippage here allows for a smooth take-off from stops, but also means less of that horsepower is making it to the wheels. Second, the transmission pumps fluid to engage and disengage its clutch packs in order to shift its gears. Creating hydraulic pressure eats horsepower, too. Third are the clutch drums.http://www.jfvtransports.com/home/content/boss-gx-700-manual-espa-ol These take the place of gears in the transmission and weigh a whole lot more. More horsepower is required to turn clutch drums than a manual transmission’s gears. The first step for more performance with Project RSX then is swapping from the automatic transmission to a manual one. That means a five-speed transmission, though. Unless you want to add work and you’ve got an ’01-’04 RSX, use the ’01-’04 RSX base model’s five-speed transmission or the ’02-’05 Civic Si’s transmission. If you have an ’05-’06 RSX, source one from an ’05-’06 RSX. Here’s why: In 2005 Honda changed how the ECU interprets vehicle speed, first from a low-frequency vehicle speed sensor at the differential to a high-frequency vehicle speed sensor at the countershaft. You can even use a six-speed transmission if you desire, and who wouldn’t want that. The same guidelines for the five-speed hold true here: use an ’01-’04 six-speed for an ’01-’04 RSX and an ’05-’06 transmission for an ’05-’06 RSX. If the transmission you want to use doesn’t match your year RSX, there are ways around that, too. But that will have to wait for another article. Make it easy on yourself and get the right one. There’s a reverse lockout solenoid that must be wired into place. Without it, finding fifth and sixth gears on the fly can be difficult.Installing a stock, six-speed ECU will control the reverse gear lockout, but won’t work with base-model engines. If you’re swapping the engine, too, you’re good to go. If future engine mods are in the works, then consider Hondata’s K-Pro, something from AEM, or a K-Tuner ECU. They can also be wired to control the lockout. If you’re using a five-speed ECU, don’t despair; you can get the lockout to work in a couple of different ways. More on that soon. Luckily, not all of the parts need to come from a six-speed car if you’re swapping in a six-speed transmission. Most of the time, the five-speed parts will do just fine.http://piercaranti.com/images/98-ford-explorer-manual.pdf For instance, a five-speed shifter and shifter cables work fine with a six-speed transmission. The chassis will require modifications, though. To bolt the clutch pedal in you’ll need to drill some holes. The manual transmission mount won’t bolt in with a stock transmission mount. Luckily, there’s an adapter bracket for that made by Hasport. There are changes to the car’s body harness and the engine harness. To the body harness we need to add or modify the clutch bypass, back-up lights, and cruise control. To the stock engine harness we’ll strip all the automatic transmission wiring, add new wiring for a vehicle speed sensor (or countershaft speed sensor), back-up-light switch, and reverse lockout if you have a six-speed. Sourcing the plugs for the engine harness can be difficult, so it may be easier to just buy a manual-transmission engine harness. Knowing which parts are needed and whether they’re dependent on your transmission choice should help you find stuff if you’re sourcing from a salvage yard. If you can find a freshly killed RSX at the yard, you might be able to make a deal for everything in one purchase. If you can’t, I’d suggest using a website like www.hondaautomotiveparts.com or www.acuraautomotiveparts.org. Both offer a healthy discount for new parts. Unless you’ve got a shop, this is probably the best deal on parts you’ll find. I’ll go into a little more detail on the individual parts in the next two parts of the article, but here’s the list for now: Manual-transmission RSX or ’02-’05 Civic Si ECU (like the transmission, use the correct year for your car). Five- or six-speed vehicle speed sensor (if your transmission uses a vehicle speed sensor, get the right one). Rear transmission bracket (Honda PN 50827-S7C-000). Transmission conversion mount or bracket—this isn’t a direct bolt-in. Clutch, throwout bearing, and flywheel. Any K-series flywheel will work with its matching clutch. Flywheel bolts (Acura PN 90011-PNA-B00). RSX or ’01-’05 Civic Si clutch pedal. RSX or ’01-’05 Civic Si brake pedal. RSX or ’01-’05 Civic (non-Si) shifter mechanism and hardware. RSX shifter cables and hardware. RSX center console garnish with shift lever boot. K20A manual-transmission intermediate shaft and hardware. RSX clutch master cylinder and reservoir. K-series clutch slave cylinder. RSX hard and soft clutch fluid lines. Various electrical connectors for modifying the engine and cabin harnesses. Manual instrument cluster (optional, but handy). Parts List: Trans Manual Subframe Trans Mounts Shifter Shift Linkage Master Cylinder Manual Axles (You only need the drivers side) Slave Cylinder Pedal Assembly Starter Clutch Flywheel Manual Center Console (Or just the shifter bezel piece) Not needed but nice to have: Manual ECU Manual Cluster Manual Dash Harness Manual Engine Harness UPDATE: You do not need a manual engine harness. The manual ecu will work without it. Time for swap: If you have general knowledge I'd say it should take you a weekend maybe a few extra days. It took me a week because I couldn't figure out why it wasn't starting and I got screwed over by this ricer down in NC. Note: I DO NOT take any responsibility for any injury's and or problems you have with your car during or after this swap. You are doing this at your own risk. I'll be more than happy to help you work out any problems you have tho. First thing first. I did this swap with a manual engine harness, manual ecu, and auto dash harness. I recommend going this route because I personally think you will have a less of a headache and less chance of running into problems down the road. Step 1: Put your car up on jack stands and remove the wheels and then drain all your fluids (oil, trans, and coolant), and uplug your battery. Step 2: Go inside your car and remove the drivers seat, brake pedal, auto shifter, gauges (if you are putting in a manual cluster), and floor mats, glove box and auto ecu. The best way to get the ecu out is to drop the glove box, unbolt the metal support and cut the plastic piece so you can bend it out of the way. Step 3: Now you want to go to the engine bay. That's basically it. There's probably a few other things I have forgotten but you'll see them when you are in there. Don't forget to unhook the auto shifter linkage. We forgot to and it snapped while pulling the motor. No big deal. Step 4: Now go into the engine bay. Start unhooking your engine harness. Once most of it's unplugged you should have almost the whole harness on the passenger side of the car. You should've already unplugged the ecu in the previous step so now you want to pull the connector's thru the grommet and then the harness should be removed from the car. Also this would be a good time to pull your injector rail out as well since you are in that area. The fuel rail can be a pain the first time if you haven't removed it before. Here's a good technique: And here's a picture with the harness moved out of the way: (This pic will be used twice) Step 5: Now it is time to start pulling the motor. Engine hoist is recommended for this step. It will make your life so much easier. You will need to find 2 places on the motor to hook up to the hoist. Once you have the motor held by the hoist you can start taking the motor mounts off. Once you get all the mounts out carefully lift the motor out of the car. Now you are halfway there. Step 6: Get the motor on the ground so you can pull the crappy auto trans off the motor. Now would also be a great time to clean that motor and engine bay with the motor out. Once you get the auto trans off you need to remove that pos torque converter off. Now you are left with the motor. Go grab you flywheel and clutch and install onto your motor. Make sure the clutch is aligned before moving on. ( This pic will do for now. Drop the bitch out and reinstall the manual. Pic! Step 8: Now it's time to mate that awesome manual transmission up to your motor. Once you get the trans mounted get everything back up on the hoist and drop her back in. Here's a pic of it installed: Step 9: Now would be a good time to run your clutch hardline since you don't have everything in the way. You will need to remove the cruise control box to run this behind it. Here's some pics of how mine is ran: Step 10: Now what you want to do is run your engine harness. Run the pin portion threw the grommet towards the ecu and then start running the harness throughout the motor. Step 11: Now get in your car and drill out the hole for the clutch and bolt it up. (No pic of this) It's pretty straight forward. Honda has a imprint in the firewall where you need to drill out at. Also bolt your brake pedal up as well since your are down there. Step 12: Now comes the small amount of wiring you need to do. You need to unbolt the 10mm bolt that holds the underdash fuse box up and drop it all the way down. Here's a picture of the diagram: Now what ur going to do is, is go up under the dash on the drivers side. Ur gonna want to locate the fuse box. There's a 10mm bolt and unbolt it so the fuse box will move down to where u can access towards the top. Next, your going to want to locate connector D. If i recall it's located in the middle on the 2nd row from the top. Don't quote me on that one. Once u find this connector, pull it out. Then locate pin 7 (Lt. Come out from the fuse box a little and cut both of them. Now what your going to want to do is put the connectors with a loop on the end on all 4 so u can run a bolt thru them. Find urself a grounding point, and ground all 4 wires out at the same point. Just do this so u don't ground out the half of the wires as i did and didn't discover for 6 months. Afterwards, connect ur battery and when u turn the key on the P should b lite up (If you are running the auto gauge cluster). This will allow the car to start after this swap. Step 13: Now you want to install you awesome shifter box. I suggest buying the strut king shifter cable and base bushing. You can get them from Corsport for pretty cheap. I also recommend the revo ss shifter as well. 89 shipped from Clubrsx when I bought it. Now hook up your shifter cables to the shifter. You can hook up the cables to the trans itself now if you didn't already. Also be sure to bolt the cables to the undercarriage. There's a spot on the chassis. You will see it when you are under there. Step 14: Finish installing all your interior back together. Hook up your ecu as well. Before putting the glove box back this would be a great time to wire up your reverse lights. The DIY can be found here. Oil, Trans fluid, and coolant and hook up your battery. Step 16: Now go back and double check everything. Make sure everything is tight, plugged in and ready to go. Now is the time for truth. Get in your car and see if it starts. If it does give yourself a pat on the back for a job well done. So that's basically it. I'm sure I've forgotten a few things but it has been a year since I did the swap. I'll update this the best I can when we do the swap at the end of next month for Robertshultz. Rep is appreciated Thanks for viewing. Our K24Z3 swap is lower cost, and retains the factory Miata subframe thanks to the single exit exhaust port. We currently only support the K24Z3 platform for the Miata chassis, and recommend a K24A2 for other cars. The preferred K20A2 and K20Z1 engines from the Acura RSX Type S are getting expensive and hard to find in good condition, and also make less power and torque than a K24A2. Because of this, we always recommend a K24 swap over a K20, without exception.Depending on accessory belt configuration, JDM engine users may need to install a USDM water pump housing and alternator to be compatible with some of our products. Generally speaking, we see 220-230whp from stock K24A2 engines with our bolt ons, and 200-210whp from stock K24Z3 engines. All available products are listed on the website. As we add more vehicles to our supported line-up, they will be added to the website. Subscribe to our email newsletter at the bottom of this page for insider updates. NA and NB Miata transmissions work with Miata swaps, E30 swaps work with the E30 Getrag 260 transmission, and so on. Our larger swap packages include a wiring conversion harness for this specific ECU. We do not offer wiring solutions or technical support for customers using ECUs other than Kpro. This can be sourced used, new from Acura, or our custom RWD KPower engine harness can also be used. Regardless of harness choice, it must be pinned for a 2002-2004 RSX. The stock K24 engine harnesses are NOT compatible with these swaps for a variety of reasons. These options will be added for the E30 shortly, as well as all other K swaps we release in the future. The E30 wiring is plug and play, while the NA and NB Miata requires the dash to be removed so some splices can be made. See our installation guides for detailed wiring instructions. Every header or downpipe we offer is terminated with a 3” exhaust flange, and our Miata race exhaust only comes in 3” diameter. We will publish weights on new projects as they are completed. The only chassis that requires additional work for hood clearance is the NA Miata. We offer a modified K24 valve cover and also a set of subframe spacers to get the engine below the factory hood skin. The only engine mount that is not compatible with RHD is the right mount in our K24A2 Miata swap. We have had a number of RHD customers complete this swap by finishing the fabrication on their own. And by having access to our ebooks online or by storing it on your computer, you have convenient answers with Auto To Manual Conversion Accord.
