Plan is not to compete with any of the project already out there where new MIDI functionality are implemented. Although MCU code will need to decode and filter MIDI messages to understand when it can activate the programmer line. When switch are set to MIDI position this line is pulled HIGH width resistor R5. Logic in IC1 74LS00 are also hooked up to this slide switch and select between which data stream, MIDI or PG-200 goes to the RX D line. RX D goes to connector CN7 on Main Board, and then to serial port pin 10 on the main CPU. Signal set on DIN Board pass through Jack Board and then goes to the Panel Board connector CN3 and set transistor TR14 to on or off, which then are read by the CPU as a open or closed switch together with all the physical switches. Then switch from PG-200 only when relevant data are available on the MIDI In port. Only MIDI channel 1 and less useful OMNI mode (all ch.) are available. But first let’s start simple. Project might stall early on as Organix Inque use a similar approach like this in its MIDI Kit, but also implement a modified firmware in a bigger EPROM.If not we look into use of the BUSY line. The other end of the new resistor connects to Arduino RX MODE.http://www.bouwdata.net/evenement/boss-gt8-manual-espa-olBut this have the risk of creating a ground loop as this connector has a dedicated ground (GND) pin going directly to the PG-200 DIN connector. We better use the ground potential from the DIN Board itself as we connect direcly to the output of IC2. On main board from connector CN7 it goes through 1K resistor R89 to 5Volt. If this is how it actually are implemented this means JX-3P do not set this ( center ) pin active Have to measure this, but probably just an error in the schematics. Here you also find the best scan of the service manual. But inline frame content from 3.party like YouTube will sett they're usual cookies if you allows for it. Just to find your first attempts less than successful. Just like most objects on display on this site. Thank you. The JX-3P was mostly aimed towards players looking for those great stable Roland sounds of the time, but with immediate Preset-based access to them, and only the most basic and newbie-friendly of on-board controls to adjust them. (Note the space reserved on-board for holding sheet music in place.) This means that sliders and knobs were being phased out in favor of push-buttons, fewer sliders and a powerful programming interface tucked away “under the hood”. Just like the JUNO, it’s a six voice polyphonic feeding digitally controlled oscillators (DCOs) through analog filters, envelopes and amps. However, the JX-3P has two oscillators per voice instead of the single osc.You will need the optional PG-200 programmer if you want a real hands-on experience with the JX-3P. Synths like the JUNO 106 had far better MIDI implementation. But the JX-3P also featured an on-board 128-step sequencer and came in a (slightly modified) rack-mount version called the MKS-30. And without the cult status of other synths similar to it, they can also be found at bargain prices, making them a definite synth to consider when looking for those classic early eighties Roland sounds.http://intrasservices.com/images/97-toyota-4runner-owners-manual.pdf And aftermarket upgrades (like the KIWI-3P ) can make it just as good, if not better, than any other polyphonic analog synths out there. It has been used by The Future Sound of London, Astral Projection, Vince Clarke, Orbital, Luke Vibert, Stevie Nicks, and Thomas Dolby. The site may not work properly if you don't update your browser. These cables are easy to build if lost. They use a 6-pin DIN connector often used as a power plug.If you have some basic soldering skills, it is easy to make a replacement cable. The replacement six pin connector is readily available, usually referred to as a power connector. You also need some six-conductor wire. Old computer serial cables use eight conductors, or you can search for specialized wire. Remember that for the Organix mod the channel can only be set to 1,2 or 3, unless you set it to OMNI. It was rusty, the legends had been scraped off in many places, the plywood bottom piece was rotting requiring it to be held together with tape, and it was spattered with literal mud. It had also been subjected to one of the strangest DIY repair attempts I’ve seen yet. Someone tried to overcome some bad key contacts by squirting some of that yellow expanding spray foam insulation stuff into the tops of a few of the rubber key contact strips.I removed them, soaked them in isopropyl alcohol for a few days, let them dry, and then dribbled a tiny drop of DeOxit D100 down the little crevice where the metal switch contact on each one was. After a few presses they were all back to normal. I use the D100 in the nail polish-type bottle because it’s better for working on tiny things like this. Replaced power supply capacitors and patch memory battery. Replaced plywood bottom piece of synth. Installed IEC inlet to replace built-in power cable. Painted rusted areas. Cleaned everything, a lot. I recently found a JX-3P at our garbage pile. Completely deconstructed and rotting bottom plywood. I only found it after one of the worst spring storms ever. I have cleaned and dried everything, replaced the rotten plywood, and cleaned all the contacts following your instructions. I am currently looking to replace the capacitor on the power board, but the text on them has worn off entirely. Would you happen to know the technical details of your original and replacement capacitors. Many thanks in advance. Quite useful I should think. Notify me of new posts by email. We also service vintage sequencers and drum machines, combo organs, analog effects units and other keyboards and vintage electric pianos. It came about at the same time as the Juno series but represents a shift towards digital circuitry, push-buttons and (for the JX-3P) simplified programming. Compared with a Juno, the JX-3P sounds inferior however it is analog and capable of decent synth sounds for cheap. You will need the PG-200 programmer if you want real control of it. It’s a six voice polyphonic with two DCO’s per voice which means analog oscillators and sounds with digital stability and control. Synths like the Juno 106 have far better MIDI implementation and sounds. Although the JX-3P may not be as nice or professional as a Juno, it makes a great entry level Vintage synth capable of creating some useful classic analog sounds. The JX-3P also came in a rack-mount version called the MKS-30. It has beenused by The Future Sound of London, Astral Projection, Vince Clarke, Orbital, Luke Vibert, Stevie Nicks, and Thomas Dolby.” A very good resource for JX-3P owners, where they can find manual, schematics, service manual and tips. Service manuals for vintage synthesizers and other electronic musical instruments. Sick of wasting time, searching for a decent service manual. The hardware (PG200) was intended as an interface to send tone parameters to the synth in order to create new sounds out of it. The protocol has just been studied and valuable info are available. Unfortunately I could not get in touch with the original author. In a nutshell: - messages are 9 bit unpaired - messages are inverted before be sent - a start message has to be sent for the synth to see them as valid Here is a link to the whole notes the original author wrote Now, sending midi messages with arduino is a joke thanks to the work of arduino communities all over the world and i have realized some hardware myself (see i.e. ). Unfortunately, this is a completely different task and I am in the need for some starting hints from valuable coder. Could anyone help me in figuring out how to assemble and send those messages with arduino. Thanks in advance! The drawback: The Serial object (HardwareSerial) doesn't support it. You'd have to write your own code for this. Quote - messages are inverted before be sent Seems to be a simple hardware inverter. Quote - a start message has to be sent for the synth to see them as valid Should be the easiest part. I have seen an old Gammon library for 9 bit messages: would it be of some use. I really need some insight on the form of such messages. Sure, but I would apply the patch to a current version of the HardwareSerial class to get all the bug fixes from the last years. Quote I really need some insight on the form of such messages. The linked pages should give you enough inside of the form of such messages. But you cannot use the print() and println() methods of the Stream class as they don't support 9bit characters. Use the write() method for every character sent. Any though? Any though? I'd expect everything to use 9bit characters. It's extremely uncommon to change the bit size of a character during a transmission. I will report back! I am waiting for a 6 pin connector to be dropped in my mailbox to start experimenting with this. I will report back! Any luck with this Barito? (sorry for thread resurrection) As Barito has pointed out, the hard work has already been done by Xonik ( ) in analysing the protocol. There are a few posts on 9-bit frames with the Arduino.
