I didn’t have the opportunity to use it until the last month or so, since we have had the cold snap here in the Boston area. It has not worked once!!! Checking the status light on the pack and it says it is charged. I’m not sure what the issue is with the pack, but I have tried several different ways hooking it up without any success. After reading reviews I settled on this product. I really wish that I hadn’t.We watched movies from sundown 'til sunrise restarting the car between movies. But come dawn when I tried to start my car, it wouldn't go. So I brought my jump starter out and it failed. It couldn't boost my truck or my friend's brand new Maxima- even though I had previously charged it up. Fortunately, the theater owners provided several jumps off their own industrial Stanley jump starter, and I later notified Amazon of my device failure. They IMMEDIATELY sent a replacement. 2017 update- I hadn't been able to test it out until recently, however. I moved to Minnesota with their brutally cold winters and my 4 year old battery just started to quit on me. I've been required to jump start my car about 6 times in as many days on one charge (with plenty more juice left in the jump starter) before I caved and bought a new battery. I'm so happy I bought this jump starter. I don't want to be stuck anywhere outside when it's almost 40 below zero. And thanks to this jump starter, I'm now confident that won't happen to me or anyone I care about. I must mention that I also like that this has a battery indicator and a pop-out flashlight. I don't need much else in a jump starter. I strongly recommend this product. I don't know how long this battery would last with routine use. At the drive-in, they used these giant Stanley jump starters and I'm sure they use them constantly, but those were about twice the weight of this starter. I've probably charged this once every 4-6 months at best. I recently left this charger in my wife's car and with less than 25 battery power left, it easily jump started her 4 year old battery on her V6 Camry in 98 degree heat. No muss no fuss. I didn't expect this jumper to last for 3 years, but here it is still working. I love this jump starter and easily feel like I got my one's worth.Could not attach to my C4 Vette battery. Plastic in handles too thick. I used my bigger booster with bigger clamps. Todays cars are very tight. Keep looking.Would NOT recommenced this item.What did I do wrong. When I tried to jump start my 4 cylinder ford again with JNC300XL there continues to be absolutely no activity when I turn on the ignition -- no sign of life coming from the battery. So, I did some specific research thru Amazon reviews on this jump starter model JNC300XL and found other reviews that this jump starter doesn't have enough power to start up a 4 cylinder despite the manufacturing claim thru various websites. I came to the same conclusion as other Amazon reviewers that this battery does not have enough power to start up a 4 cylinder. The same reviews and ratings show up no matter which jumper model you click on. -- I was misinformed. Guess I have to take it to a battery recycler cuz I just don't feel confident selling it to someone.It worked fine for the first year. If my van's (Honda Odyssey) battery is not dead completely this worked. But if the van's battery is dead this is useless. In the first year I used it about 15-20 times. For a total of about 40 usages, I don't know whether this is a good buy.This is little workhorse of a booster, it easily boosts dead cars including our Suburban's 5.3LV8 in the dead of winter. Really, it's the smaller lower-capacity version of professional grade boosters. I find this more reliable to boost my cars in cold weather compared to a little lithium booster pack. I've used it to start small 4 cylinders to v8 tundras (warm, not cold). I use it to power a hyrdaulic pump from time to time, so far for the month I've owned it I have found no issues. The clamps seems a bit weak, but they've taken my abuse so far, and they are easily replaced. All in all, a very good value. Can you do a battery replacement. Will you be able to return this jump starter. Where To Buy Clore JNC300XL.You might understand it more when I turn it into a question and answer on my findings. It it possible to start a 4 and 6 cylinder vehicle. It might even be possible for a larger vehicle. That means there is no need for extra someone to hold a flash light for you while working on the car. Very simple to use. If you need higher cranking amps for your vehicle, I recommend the models of JNC660 or JNC950 battery pack. It is about 2.25 feet long. I have to tell you, there are other jump starters that weigh much more lighter than 9 pounds and you can just put them in your pocket. The lowest weight for a jump starter I found weighs only 13.8 ounces. If weight is very important, then you can check some out by clicking here. It comes equipped with a status indicator light to tell you the status of the battery. But you do have to press and hold down the red status button to find out. If you see two lights it means medium. If you see 1 light, it is low and if you see the light is flashing that means it is time to recharge the unit. I also like to mention there is a light always on when it is plugged in. This light just means the unit is working. If you see four lights that means the unit is fully charged. The first way is to recharge it by plugging it in the the wall by using the included wall charger. If you are using the 12 Volt DC outlet that means you would have to remove the LED flashlight and be careful not to misplace or damage it. For first time charge, you should charge it 12 hours and you need to charge it after each use and charge it every three months when it is not in use. I guess this is considered a maintenance. If you register this unit online with Clore, they will send you a reminding email when to recharge it. When the unit is in a very high discharge condition then you can recharge it for 12 hours to 24 hours. You can ONLY recharge the unit for 36 to 48 hours after extreme power usage. So that is only in rare cases. If it is fully charged you would have to unplug the wall charger from the outlet, because you don’t want it to be over charged. According to the sale page, this wall charger works with the model of 300XL and also the CS1000. Click the picture on the right for the replacement wall charger. They both made the battery pretty much the same other than the Energy Compliance, which means they made the wall charger differently to be more energy efficient. Basically those states want to save more energy. If you pick the other one, they won’t ship it to you. They can tell when you enter your address and zip code. Click here for the Energy Compliant unit. Oh yeah the price for the Energy Compliant one might be a little higher than the one that is not. Think of it like this, you will be saving more money in the long run due to using less energy. You can check out this replacement battery by clicking here. It is considered a dangerous item when shipping it back to amazon. I think most retailers won’t accept returns for battery packs when buying it online. Well, I could be wrong. I am not sure if you can return from buying it locally. If you need repair for this jumper, you have to contact the manufacturer. The places where I know the JNC300XL for sale are at amazon, walmart and sears. I tried searching through Target, but they don’t have it and I find amazon is selling it at the lowest price as of February 17, 2015. Prices are subject to change, so hopefully when you are checking it, the price will be in your favor. If you are buying it from amazon, it is qualified for FREE shipping cost. It is a little tough to choose between these two. If you like you can check out the comparison chart by clicking here. Sometimes it is better to find the difference by just reading a chart. With the higher cranking power you can use it to jump start more vehicles. Please do check the required Cold Ranking Amps from your vehicle to make this choice. You might not have a choice to go with other features if your car requires a higher cranking power. You should ask yourself do I want to lift up 18 pounds or just 9 pounds. If you prefer the 9 pounds then I recommend to go with the 300XL. To be honest I would go with the 9 pounds, if my car’s CCA allows me. I most certainly don’t like lifting heavy things. The lower the number of the cable gauge is better. That means it can be used for more heavy duty and is more durable. It is only a tiny little less than the JNC660. A lot of consumers are very happy with this jumper, but that being said not a single product is perfect without any complaints. There are a few complaints about this jumper. It is small, light, easy to store and yet powerful enough to jump start a SUV. It saved a lot of consumers from being stranded. It is good for about 2 to 3 years while using it for a few times and others complain it doesn’t hold a charge for their vehicle. And also your vehicle might require more cranking power.
