Because of the way my system sits in an entertainment cabinet, I had to leave the receiver dangling on its wire, which looked messy. The wireless link quality was excellent. I have a WiFi network in the house and a phone running in the same spectrum, but had no problems whatsoever with dropped connections. Even someone cooking a late-night snack in the microwave in the kitchen directly above the rec room (where the console is) didn't cause any interference. The was basically no way to tell I wasn't playing with a wired gamepad unless I looked down at the pad itself. The pad has a range of about 30 feet, and that's farther than I'd ever want to be from the screen while playing anyway. The Lazer Wireless is comparable to Nintendo's own wireless Wavebird controller, with an identical button layout. But it differs in a couple of important ways. First, it's flashier. Unlike the one-tone Wavebird, the Lazer is blue with chrome accents. It also has rubberized hand grips, which makes it more comfortable for long gaming sessions and won't slip if your hands get a little sweaty. Second, it has a turbo-fire button. When turned on, the fire buttons will fire continuously when held down instead of forcing you to pump the trigger. Story continues below advertisement A third benefit is the Lazer's force-feedback. I found the battery-driven force motors somewhat lacklustre. They added to the gaming experience, but weren't a showstopper. The gamepads are also rated for up to 70 hours of gameplay without the force feedback enabled, but with force-feedback on, this will be cut significantly. This puts the gamepad into a price range with good wired GameCube controllers, so you're not paying a premium to cut the cord. Overall, Intec's Lazer Wireless is a good alternative to a wired controller if you're tired of tripping over cables or dragging your console off the top of your TV when you run for the phone. It could be the game itself, but I kept going off the path of the road. Next up, Burnout Takedown for the Xbox. This is where the racing shined. The handling felt good, a few slippage here and there, but then again, it could me. It was easy to boost the car acceleration thanks to the layout of the buttons. Acceleration and braking worked fine. Much easier to use the wheel than the controller. Plus my 5-year-old daughter, Carissa, loved it. She was delighted she could finally drive, albeit a videogame simulation of driving. The nice thing about wheel is that it's universal with Xbox, PS2 and Gamcube. The wire comes with 3 different attachments for the three systems. It was very easy to assemeble and get it up and running. For 10 bucks, it not a bad racing wheel for Burnout.
