You may want to clean the horizontal drain pipe to eliminate any possible blockage. (This is not necessary in new construction.) When both connections are free, remove the parts. (See Fig 1) Remove the strainer body. Clean off the old plumber's putty that surrounds the edge of the drain opening. Drop the new sink flange into the drain opening and press it into place. Placing a weight, such as your garbage disposal, on top of the sink flange will help hold the sink flange in place while mounting it to the sink. To avoid scratching your sink or the flange, place a towel between the sink surface and the weight. (See Fig 2) Hold these pieces in place. Tighten the three mounting screws, alternately tightening each screw a few turns at a time until the mounting assembly is evenly and tightly seated against the bottom of the sink. Lay the garbage disposal on its side and use a screwdriver and hammer to tap it out. Next, remove the loose knockout plug from inside the garbage disposal. (See Fig 3) Pull out wires. Insert cable connector (not included) and run electrical cable through access hole on bottom of garbage disposal. Tighten cable connector. Push wires into garbage disposal (do not displace cardboard shield) and replace electrical cover plate. For power cord kit installation instructions, click here. Holding the garbage disposal in place, turn the lower mounting ring until all three tabs are locked into the mounting assembly. (See Fig 5a) If the discharge tube is too long, cut off as much of the tube as necessary. If it is too short, you can purchase an extension. If you are connecting the garbage disposal to a dishwasher, it may be connected through an air gap. Use a hose clamp to attach the drain hose to the dishwasher inlet. As it's a direct replacement, I didn't even bother to go through the hassle or removing the old sink flange and having to putty in a new one as the existing one was just fine. It took me about 5 minutes to replace old with new - that's why I didn't bother with a different make. There is nothing quick about it. Its a 'twist and turn and lock into place' design. By the time you managed to twist and lock, the outlet is out of position. So you actually have to position about 30 degrees out of alignment before the twist and turn process. They should have designed with 3 stationary snap locks.remove the old one, put in the replacement and snapped! 2. No cable cord and organizer included. Why not complete the product? 3. Galvanised steel. Lousy material used inside where the motor is causes corrosion after a while. Water will start leaking into the motor rending the unit unusable. Why couldn't they just have used a better material. Even plastic material would have been better. Conclusion: Terrible design that is not designed to last. KC 5.0 out of 5 stars While it still worked fine, it began leaking from the bottom. Since it gave me so many years of reliable service, I decided to replace it with the same model. I'm so glad I did as installing it was a breeze. Literally took my like 10 minutes as I was able to use the mount from the old unit to install the new one. Plus this one came with a power cord already installed where most units don't. Major plus and time saver not needing to remove the cord from the old unit and then install it on the new unit. Never could understand why most garbage disposals didn't come with a power cord. I'm sure there is some reason. After over 12 years of experience with the same model I can say this disposal is plenty powerful enough and pretty quiet for it's price point. Plus, it's compact size allows more room under your sink which in my case is great since I have a pull out drawer for stuff kept under there. You can imagine what a disaster that could be! So. here's hoping for another 12 plus years with this new Badger 1!The mounting system is excellent so replacing a broken unit is easy, just use the existing mount and pop in the new unit and believe me you will be replacing them every 4-6 years. If you have a direct wire to the disposal, do yourself a favor an install an electrical outlet under the sink and when replacing the unit, order the model with the cord already attached. Save's time. I once bought a GE disposal, the mounting was terrible and it died in 2 years. So it was back to Insinkerator, God help me. Now I'd rather have no disposal at all but I am married for 29 years, this isn't a battle I'll win so on this, I just go along and replace them. These units rust to hell. Sometime's the housing cracks and leaks. Honestly, every time I replaced a unit it seized due to rust. Look at pictures in the reviews, it is very common. Now there is a stainless steel model for more money. I have never bought that model but reviews suggest they rust to hell too and last about the same time, so why bother. My 2 cents.It had been 10 years so I opted to buy a new one. Almost all disposals come with no plug. I am a single lady and did not want to put on a cord and was lucky enough to find one with a cord here on Amazon. Shipping was fast and I got the same one that I currently had. With my little tool set I was able to attach this new one in nothing flat. The hardest part was holding it up long enough to screw it on to the sink drain gadget that was already in my sink (even though it comes with a new one for a sink that doesn't already have one) as it is very heavy. Very proud to be able to do it myself. Super easy.I replaced it myself in less than 30 min. And it works perfectly. One thing to note is that don’t forget to punch in the dish washer hole if you’re connecting it. Simply unplug, disconnected the drain pipe, remove dishwasher hose, then twist and remove. To install, do reverse of above. Make sure to knock out the dishwasher block if connecting a dishwasher hose. As for the product, does the job, somewhat noisy, but not too bad. And how often do you run a disposer and for how long, a few seconds. So, noise not a big issue. I also opted for the attached cord to avoid one less step. Overall, great product and no issues or concerns.I decided to replace all parts included instead of connecting on the the old attachment. The snap ring that holds the bottom mount took me a minute to figure it out. I used a pick to pry the snap ring out and I was in business. My husband did have to go out and purchase some items to convert our sink including a switch for the unit. You’re not gonna find items like Plumber’s Putty in this box so make sure that you think ahead and allow appropriate time for the install such as a long weekend like us. It is a one-day install. That is what he used. But registering it was difficult. The serial number and model number were not on the box or anywhere accessible. They were under the sink on the back side. The one item of note is installing the drain line as the drain connection that came with the unit would have required re-plumbing my existing connection. I use an existing straight piece with a flair on the end going into the InSinkErator from the existing connection. I included a picture which I think is below. The old man is that Insinkerator came off within a hitch. Installing the new one was a bear. The disposal was a bit too heavy for me to lift from underneath the sink.
