Ihe selected time. Hardware. This unit looks slick. It has a good design, and seems to be made of sturdy material. The windshield mount is too bulky. It is a shame, because the GPS itself is slim, and blocks very little of your view. The mount sticks out over the GPS and blocks your view out of the windshield. You can not pivot the GPS to a different angle, in case you mount it someplace out of the way. The suction cup works very well, and seems to hold better than my Garmin. I'd like to see Best Buy redesign the mount, but everything else is great. Software. There are a lot of glitches I've seen over the last two days using this unit. After directing you to a place, your vehicle icon dissapears. You can get it back by going to the menu, and returning, but I should not have to do this. Autonight mode. This unit claims to be able to switch to night mode automaticely. Well, in automatic, the unit is supposed to switch at 8 pm. First, that is way to late for night mode. Second, it doesn't do it all of the time. I don't need a white screen at 2 am, killing my night vision. The unit says that I can email it directions via Google Maps. Well someone neglicted to tell Google how this is done. I still have not been able to figure out how to send directions to my unit. I am about to do a cross country drive in March. I decided to do a traffic search for the trip. That crashed the unit. Nothing worked right until I turned the GPS off, and turned it back on again. A second attempt succeded. While following the GPS to a destination, the screen sometimes flickers. It also lags behind me on occasion. Neighter of these problems is a major distraction, just shows that the software needs some more polish. I think Insignia would do well to make the software open source. I can only imagine the possibilties that the intergrated internet can do in an open source environment. Best Buy would stand to make a fortune if the software continued to grow with new features, and we had to pay a yearly fee for the internet access. I could see one GPS unit lasting years with continued software support. This unit will NOT replace my Garmin. The Garmin is easier to use, and it displays the cross streets, where the Insignia does not. I may consider getting one for my personal car, so that I never had to take the Garmin out of the police car. This unit is very close to being a great unit, the software is holding it back. Until the issues are fixed, it is only an average GPS, in a very heated market. No, I would not recommend this to a friend Helpful (3) Unhelpful (0) Report Comment readingj readingj Rating 2 out of 5 stars with 1 review Waste of a good product Posted 10 years ago.I was attracted to it because of the purported internet connectivity. As it turns out, that connectivity (limited as it is) is the only good feature of this GPS. It has almost no other features - no speed display, no time of day, no elapsed time of trip, in fact, no trip details at all, and very poor search results. Although a Google Search will turn up almost anything you are looking for, the GPS unit only tells you how far away the match is; there is no indication of direction. So when I looked for a Walmart in the middle of Colorado it turned up several, but there was no way to tell which were ahead of me and which were behind me. The best bet is to start your own alternate then ask it to analyze the paths again. Since I have now owned this unit for 1 year and 1 day the free subscription to the internet connectivity has expired. I have not yet figured out what it costs to renew, but if I cannot renew this will be a sadly crippled device. With better programming this could be a great GPS. Do not pay more than that for it.
