Kindle Customer 1.0 out of 5 stars The vest failed to deploy either automatically or manually. Luckily he was able to tread water until his friend got the boat back to him and got him out of the water. I bought three of the vests. One for each of my sons and my husband. Now i am not letting them use them.I was a little skeptical at first, but I fish a river that has a very fast current and is pretty cold in the fall (as of today Nov 11, water temp is 40 degrees F).http://genius.pskovedu.ru/site/htmlimages/hp-2420n-service-manual.xml

If you fall out of my little boat the last thing you need to worry about is swimming. You need to concentrate on getting to shore before you get swept into the lake. I wanted one that automatically inflated but was comfortable to wear all day, and was buoyant enough for me in my winter fishing gear. I weight 265 and in the above video I had just got back from fishing so I had my heavy winter fishing jacket, thermal underwear, insulated pants, sweater, heavy duty boots and hat on. It worked fantastic. I also found out a few things. There is no way in hell I could get out of the water and into my boat without some sort of ladder. You can see me trying to get out of the pool not using the ladder and it wasn't even close. I weighed probably 60 pounds more when I got out due to the water logged clothing and the bulk of the inflated PFD made getting close to the pool edge impossible. I also found out that swimming forward was very hard and it was much easier to do the back-stroke. As you can see it took about 1.5 seconds for the auto inflater to kick in, but it did deploy and had no problem keeping my head out of the water. You must be wearing this in order for the Coast Guard to consider it a viable PFD, but is honestly so comfortable I forget I was wearing it. Sorry about the sideways video.I guess I won't know until I fall into the drink. However, if you purchase one of these, Amazon shows two re-arming kits. One of them does not fit this vest. Don't buy the one with the black plastic bayonet mount threaded onto the CO2 cylinder. The one you want is the one that shows the cylinder, the yellow bobbin and the green part, ASIN B0032AQQ7Q. If you buy the wrong one, you can't ship it back, although Amazon did credit me for the purchase price. So, I guess I'm a happy Amazon shopper, again.Prices were pretty high and I kept wondering why. As a scuba diver I know a quality BC when I see it. I don't sacrifice safety. I saw these on Amazon and compared.http://www.oglethorpeclub.org/~oglethor/UserFiles/hp-2430-maintenance-manual.xml Decided to buy them to see how good they are. Lightweight. Easy to wear. Comfortable and fits like a feather. The best part?.price, quality and safety. By having these and wearing them we reduce the possibility we might be a freak boating accident statistic.because we WILL wear these each time we get on the boat and wear them the whole day fishing. Whoever is driving will hook up to the ignition each time we drive so if something does occur the kill switch will activate. If we go in the water the life vests should activate quickly and keep our heads above water. I like that I can switch these to manually inflate if we decide to go paddle boarding. If only scuba diving BCs were this comfy - they are getting there quickly now. In the future I would like to see these in other colors, but at same price. I really wanted to match our vests to our boat - emerald green. But at this price I'm good. And safe. If we'd wear the bulky ones I'd feel more psychologically comfortable, but they do no good sitting inside a compartment under the fishing deck. We live in AZ and it gets plenty hot in the summer - these won't make us sweat more needlessly. He likes his as he fishes in tournaments and they have to keep theirs on the whole time on the lake. Less constricting and easier to move around in.After borrowing it a few times for sailing, I purchased a second one for myself. Best compliment I can give. So, I got out of my boat and dropped my jacket in the water. Within 1 second it filled up.I know it works! Course now, I need to get the rearming kit.It does inflate upon touching water. While no one was wearing it, one side of the vest came in contact with the water and yes, it inflated immediately, quickly and I'm relatively sure that, weight considered as per jacket specs, it would definitely hold a person up in the water. So, I'm purchasing another canister but worth it because, now I know. Great vest and what a pleasant surprise.http://www.raumboerse-luzern.ch/mieten/bose-ipod-dock-instruction-manual Had one of the bulky style vests that I wore once. It was uncomfortable and hot. With this vest, you have ease of movement, it’s very lightweight and as another said, you really don’t even know it’s there. Does it work? Won't know until I go in the water and hope I don’t. I did completely check it out though and inflated manually to make sure it was ok. Might be a bit more work but well worth the comfort.Tested it as per the instructions, and it held air fine, hope she never has to test it in an emergency.Bought this in summer 2016. It self inflated in the boat shortly thereafter. Emailed the company that sold it and they said it was not to be left around high temperatures and humidity. To me, these are boating conditions. To their credit they sent me a rearming kit. Yesterday I went to my boat and it had self inflated again. I tried storing the life vest at home and taking it with me when I went boating but I would almost always forget it so that was not an option. So, unless you are the type of person who can store it at home and remember to take it when needed, avoid this product.Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1 In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. Knowing how inflatables are classified will help you determine which type is best for you. Type II inflatables a minimum buoyancy of 22.5lb. and lower are considered near shore while Type II inflatables with a minimum buoyancy of 34lb.They are also not meant to be worn by children under 16 years old. Type III inflatable life vests provide a minimum of 22.5lb. of buoyancy and are more comfortable than Type III inherent while providing more mobility. However, these inflatable life jackets are not guaranteed to turn people face up when unconscious and they are not meant for children 16 and under. Some of these life jackets are built as a combination of CO2 inflation and inherently buoyant foam to provide 15.5-22lb. of buoyancy. Once inflated, these belt pack life jackets must be manually placed over your head. We recommend they be worn by competent swimmers only. The most recent models with 1F inflators, so-called “stowables,” don’t have to be worn to be counted as inventory. Finally, the inshore Coastal Series inflatables use a 25g.For more information about checking and servicing your inflatable life vest, check out our West Advisor article Do-It-Yourself: Check Your Inflatable Life Vest. When not inflated, the bladder is compact and lightweight. Inflatables come in a variety of performance ratings. Many are USCG approved while some carry European certifications instead. The specific USCG rating of life jacket is determined by characteristics such as its amount of buoyancy, in-water performance and type of inflation mechanism. A few exceptions where inflatable life jackets are not ideal are: You are better off having the buoyancy of a traditional foam flotation PFD when you could be repeatedly entering the water, and repeatedly need flotation. Inflatable life jackets are not for high speed impact with the water. When shopping, pay attention to the numbers provided. It is sufficient to keep most people afloat with their mouth comfortably above the water. Automatic styles inflate when wet or submerged under water. Manual inflation requires jerking an inflation tab or handle attached to the CO2 cartridge. If you are unconscious in the water, manual inflatables are of no use. Generally it adds only a little more to the cost. These same products often carry certification by the ISO (international Organization for Standards) or CE (European Commission). Best for all waters; open ocean, rough seas, or remote water, where rescue may be slow coming. Though foam types are bulky, inflatables ones are not. They have the most buoyancy, reflective tape, a bright color and can turn most unconscious people face up in the water. Calm inland waters, where a quick rescue is likely, is the intent of these PFDs. They will turn some unconscious wearers to the face-up position but not all of them. Foam Type II’s are bulky, but less so than foam Type I’s. These are suitable for most sailors where there is a chance for a quick rescue. They offer freedom of movement and the most comfort for a conscious person. Foam type III’s are designed so wearers can put themselves in a face-up position, but they may have to tilt their head back to avoid being face down in water. Inflatable type III’s generally float a person head back. Cushions or ring buoys are designed to be thrown to someone in trouble and provide backup to a PFD. They are not for non-swimmers, rough waters or the unconscious. The USCG does not require these for dinghies, canoes, kayaks. These are specialized PFDs for specific activities. To be acceptable by the USCG, they must be used for the activity specified on the label. If you choose to wear a non USCG approved inflatable PFD, you must also have aboard a foam (not inflatable) USGC approved PFD. So if you are boarded and your inflatable PFD is in the locker (and you don’t have another USCG approved non-inflatable), you’re in violation. The more air in the inflation bladder the more pounds of flotation is provided, and the higher your head rides above the water. The USCG requires the following for approved inflatable PFDs: Ideal in situations where you expect to be in the water, and want to control when and if the vest inflates. Automatic inflating PFDs will automatically inflate once you are in the water. They are the best choice if you do not expect to be in the water and want the security of knowing your vest will automatically inflate if you do go into the water. This is especially important if unconscious. These vests can also manually inflate requiring you to pull on an inflation handle or tab to release the CO2. Be sure re-arm after every inflation and regularly inspect. These use a paper capsule that releases the firing pin when it becomes wet. Typically engineered to that water has to flow up inside of the cartridge to reach capsule. This prevents accidental inflation. The engineering of automatic inflators has advanced decreasing the number of accidental inflation due to humidity or spray. Service the inflation system when the indicator is red. Reflective strips on your inflatable improve the chance those using a search light or flashlight will locate you. The more placed higher and on your inflatable bladder the better. By keeping the vest down in place, your body, and more importantly head, will ride higher in the water. If your vest has a built in harness, crotch straps will keep it well placed and provide better body support (load distribution) should your harness have to break your fall. If the vest does not come with a safety whistle, it is wise to add one. Being heard is often just as important as being seen. They reduce the amount of water in the wearer’s face which can make breathing difficult. Hoods store conveniently in a small pouch that attaches to the waist belt on our inflatable PFD or pack into the deflated bladder. The hood secures in place once the PFD fully inflates. Additionally, they generally incorporate high visibility materials to make the wearer more visible in the water. Spray hoods are strongly recommended for offshore sailing. Some inflatables come with a strobe light included, but most do not. Typically styles attach with an elastic strap around the inflatable bladder and pack inside the vest with the deflated bladder; or an integral strap is available on the bladder for attachment. Lume-On consists of two flat pieces that self-adhere to the underside of the inflation bladder. The light is water activated to illuminate the bladder of an inflatable life jacket making it easier to see during rescue. This is standard on some Spinlock inflatables, but can attach to any brand of inflatable PFDs. Spinlock does state that it is up to you to determine if using their LUME-On is appropriate for your inflatable and recommends checking with the manufacture. Generally it adds only a little more to the cost. You should have and bring your own. Double tethers are advisable, as you can always stay attached to the boat with the first clip, while you change your connection point to the boat with the second clip as you move about. It is important to have a quick release shackle at the harness connection point or a safety cutaway knife to separate you from the boat in an emergency or man-over board situation. AIS units are generally water activated, although some are manual, and have integrated GPS to broadcast your exact location to nearby vessels that are receiving AIS. Generally you can have them in your carry on or checked luggage. Check this TSA page for the latest. Do you need to buy new co2 cylinders. My daughter will be using it for paddle boarding and Kayaking. Would this be recommended for that? Depending on the kind of water she will be in, she may consider a manual inflator, which will only go off when she activates it as opposed to when there is contact with water. This life jacket is approved by the Australian and New Zealand standards, AS4758.1 (newest standard). This is a quality Inflatable PFD Life Jacket made from quality materials. Don't risk your safety or your families safety with anything less than the best in comfort and safety. These Inflatable Jackets can be self serviced for the first two years, but it is highly recommended to have them professionally serviced by an authorised service agent on the 3rd year. Why do I need to do this. Your legal servicing requirements start from the date of purchase not the manufacturer date. The new standard introduces the identification of PFDs by 'levels'. Exchange orders will incur shipping costs. I liked the detailed instructions for regular checking of the device. Could perhaps be improved by some reflective tape at the head end. 26 July 2019 The jackets fit very comfortably. 12 September 2018 It fits and looks great. The communication I received from Menace was the best, they let me know when it was sent and tracked it for me till it got to my door. I would highly recommend this PFD as well as the company. Cheers 22 January 2018 Not had chance to use life jacket yet but it looks great and easy to operate. Strong, well packed, good instructions and will be ideal for my needs. Did not want a bulky life jacket as I am in a wheelchair so this will be excellent to wear, and good security when fishing off the jetty! 20 March 2017 Liked the product. I have not tried as yet, but will soon. Colin 26 January 2017 Very satisfied with the vests. Comfortable and well made. Highly recommend. 23 January 2017 This particular brand seems to have the best features. I like the waterproof pouch (although I doubt it would be wise to have a phone in it!). My particular use is kayaking and there is no restriction when paddling. 8 January 2017 Thank you for getting it here in time 26 December 2016. She also covers travel products and has written about everything from camping knives to climbing chalk. We may receive commissions on purchases made from our chosen links.PFDs are more comfortable to wear, provide greater freedom of movement, and should be rated Type II, Type III, or Type V by the U.S. Coast Guard. They can inflate manually or automatically and are sometimes designed to be used for specific watersports.Either way, the life vest provides a minimum buoyancy of 22.5 pounds when inflated.Soft neoprene around the neckline prevents chafing, while the lower section, back and straps are equipped with padded air mesh panels. Reflective piping increases your visibility at night, while the D-ring attachment comes in handy for adding safety accessories like a whistle or torch. Stow your shades in the padded, fleece-lined sunglasses pocket and your other personal items in the vest’s utility pockets. It’s intended for people aged 16 and older (or over 80 pounds) and is not recommended for weak or non-swimmers. The automatic inflation kicks in within seconds of hitting the water and helps to self-right most wearers. The vest also includes a manual inflation cord and an oral inflator tube.Use the transparent window to inspect the inflator, and the easy access flap to replace the CO2 canister. The vest has a 500-denier outer shell and a strong polypropylene waist strap and harness. It comes in a range of different colors (including black, orange and camo), and is recommended for low-impact watersports only. It’s incredibly lightweight, weighing under one pound in total. Its contoured front foam panels provide a comfortable fit, while four adjustment points allow you to tailor the vest to your specific size. The outer shell is made of 300-denier polyester. It features bright colors to increase visibility and is USCG-approved as a Type III PFD.It can be used for a wide range of different watersports but is especially suited to kayaking. Firstly, a revolutionary airflow system prevents excessive heat build-up, keeping you cool even when you’re exerting yourself in warm weather. Secondly, the mesh back allows for a comfy fit against high seat backs.Other handy features include a large front pocket, a quick access tab for attaching a knife and an interior storage sleeve. The USCG-approved vest also comes in a range of sizes and uses a reflective trim to increase your visibility in low light. It features foam flotation panels that conform to your body shape and provide 16.5 pounds of buoyancy; and a mesh lower back for added ventilation and a great fit for high-back seats. Use the eight adjustment points to customize the fit.Stash your fly box or tippets in one of seven different-sized front pockets, and your line cutter on the coiled tool retractor. There’s a loop to hold your strobe, loops for attaching rod holders, a lash tab for your knife and extra D-rings for attaching anything else you might need. Colors include charcoal, black, green and orange. It provides 8 pounds, 6 ounces of buoyancy and features wrap-around flotation that automatically turns the child face up in the water. Dual support collars also help to support your little one’s head. The front zipper has a quick release buckle over the top for added security, while the adjustable crotch strap comes in handy for ensuring a comfortable fit. The vest’s outer shell is made from durable 200-denier nylon and comes in high-visibility red or yellow or a more neutral blue.Available in several sizes, it’s designed to provide buoyancy in the water without restricting movement on land. A front neck float helps to keep the dog’s head above water, while the neoprene belly band supports their chest and stomach. Use the dual grab handles to pull your dog out of the water in an emergency. The bright orange color and reflective piping make the vest easy to spot even in rough conditions, while velcro tabs prevent the vest’s straps from getting caught on submerged obstacles. Inflatable vests should never be worn tubing, wakeboarding, or white-water rafting. However, some inflatable vests are designed to be more streamlined than older models, with unobtrusive designs that let arms move without constriction. These types might be preferable for activities like kayaking and fishing. Additionally, certain models are specifically designed to be used only by people who know how to swim well—so be sure to check. Inflation Method Personal flotation devices can be inflated manually or automatically (and some offer both options). With manual inflation, you can swim with the uninflated PFD and only pull the cord to inflate the vest should you need to. However, automatic inflation means that if you’re in the ocean and in trouble—say, unconscious—the vest will inflate without you having to do anything. Comfort Not only do height and weight matter when you’re looking to purchase a life vest, but other aspects of its construction can make a difference when it comes to the fit. Comfort is especially important because you’ll have to wear it against wet and dry clothing, sometimes for hours at a time. Make sure that the vest doesn’t rub awkwardly against your skin or any swimming suit seams before you take it home.
