The following tables list the specifications of the processors for the System x3650 M5. The second processor must be of the same model as the first processor. The second processor option includes two system fans. TruDDR4 memory uses the highest-quality components sourced from Tier 1 DRAM suppliers and only memory that meets strict requirements is selected. It is compatibility tested and tuned on every System x server to maximize performance and reliability. Because TruDDR4 memory is authenticated, certain extended memory performance features can be enabled to extend performance over industry standards. From a service and support standpoint, System x memory automatically assumes the system's warranty, and service and support provided worldwide. Each processor has four memory channels, and there are three DIMMs per channel.http://www.ecoun-fukui.com/admin/fckeditor/editor/cuisinart-coffee-maker-manual-brew-central.xml In rank sparing mode, one rank of a DIMM in each populated channel is reserved as spare memory. The size of a rank varies depending on the DIMMs installed. Only one operational memory mode can be enabled on a server, and it is a system-wide setting. System x TruDDR4 memory is fully supported up to the rated speeds that are shown in the following table. Table cells highlighted with a gray background indicate when the DIMMs are allowed to operate at a higher speed than Intel specifications define. For models with up to 16x 2.5-inch drive bays, the optional Front IO Cage Standard or Advanced provides one optical drive bay and 3x USB 2.0 ports. In addition, the Front IO Cage Advanced provides an LCD display. These options are listed in the following table. The kit includes special riser that provides PCIe 3.0 x8 slot for the M1215 RAID controller that is dedicated to 2x 2.5-inch rear drives. In other configurations with the NVMe PCIe SSD Upgrade Kits, the 2.5-inch Rear HDD Kit cannot be used. Storage dense models with 12x 3.5-inch or up to 24x 2.5-inch drive bays on the front do not support internal optical drive; a supported external optical drive can be used instead. The slot form factors are as follows: The following table lists available PCIe riser card options. This option includes the bracket and the cable. The COM Port option is mounted in place of the PCIe slot 5, and the PCIe slot 5 cannot be used. Optionally, the server supports ML2 adapters that are installed in the custom ML2 slot provided by the PCIe ML2 riser cards (part numbers 00KA504 and 00KA519). This slot supports adapters with either two 10 Gb ports or four Gigabit Ethernet ports and supports direct connectivity to the IMM2.1 service processor for out-of-band systems management. The maximum number of transceivers or cables that are supported per adapter equals the quantity of the adapter ports, and all adapter ports must have the same type of the transceiver or cable selected.http://superbia.lgbt/flotaganis/1649306647The server cannot be shipped with these adapters installed. Dual-rotor fan server models of the System x3650 M5 include six system fans. The PCIe thermal kit contains an air baffle. The Passive GPU Thermal Kit contains an air duct, two low-profile heatsinks, four GPU power cables, and a full-length card holder. The Dual Rotor Fan Thermal Kit contains six dual-rotor fans and a fan cage. The following table lists the power supply options. Configurations that cannot be built in SSCT or DCACT due to power restrictions may still be supported. To verify support and ensure that the right power supply is chosen for optimal performance, you should always validate your server configuration using the latest version of the System x Power Configurator: The USB memory key is installed in a USB socket inside the server. The SD Media Adapter is installed in a dedicated slot inside the server. When two SD Media cards are inserted, volumes can be mirrored (RAID 1) across both cards, up to a total of eight mirrored volumes. The RAID functionality is handled internally by the SD Media Adapter. If an environmental condition exceeds a threshold or if a system component fails, the IMM2.1 lights LEDs to help you diagnose the problem, records the error in the event log, and alerts you to the problem. Optionally, the IMM2.1 also provides a virtual presence capability for remote server management capabilities. The remote presence feature provides the following functions: A system administrator can use the blue-screen capture to assist in determining the cause of the hang condition. It provides functions to collect full system health information (including health status), configure system setting, update system firmware and drivers, and FoD mass activation key management for multiple endpoints.http://artisanatlucratif.com/images/cab-manual-install.pdf This solution integrates easily with Lenovo x86 rack servers, Flex System, and RackSwitch switches, providing automated agent-less discovery, monitoring, firmware updates, configuration management, and bare metal deployment of operating systems and hypervisors across multiple systems. Lenovo XClarity Pro is licensed on a per managed system basis, that is, each managed Lenovo system requires a license. Lenovo XClarity Integrators offer the following additional features: Using built-in intelligence, it identifies server power consumption trends and ideal power settings and performs cooling analysis so that you can define and optimize power-saving policies. This is due to local business practices or laws in the specific country. Local service teams can assist in explaining country-specific terms when needed. Examples of country-specific warranty terms are second or longer business day parts delivery or parts-only base warranty. Onsite labor under base warranty is limited to labor for replacement of parts that have been determined to be field-replaceable units (FRUs). Parts that are determined to be customer-replaceable units (CRUs) do not include onsite labor under base warranty. Parts-only service does not include a service technician being dispatched onsite. Parts must be changed at customer’s own cost and labor and defective parts must be returned following the instructions supplied with the spares parts. Not all warranty service upgrades are available in every country. This guide is intended for technical specialists, sales specialists, sales engineers, IT architects, and other IT professionals who want to learn more about the ServeRAID M5110 and M5110e and consider their use in IT solutions. These adapters also share a common set of upgrades, simplifying inventory management. Auto-resume ensures that data integrity is maintained throughout the process. The card supports a number of features that are able to be implemented without rebooting the server. Applications, such as email and web server, benefit from avoiding downtime during the transition. System availability and application functionality remain unaffected. This feature allows you to immediately start writing data to the virtual drive while the initialization is running in the background. The consistency check will mirror data when an inconsistent stripe is detected for a RAID 1 and recreate the parity from the peer disks in the case of a RAID 5 or RAID 6. Consistency checks can be scheduled to take place periodically. The service issues a series of verify commands, and if a bad block is discovered, the card's firmware uses RAID algorithms to recreate the missing data and remap the sector to a good sector. The task is interruptible based on controller activity and host operations.https://www.phonefixcomo.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1629c80cf4d685---cq70-120us-manual.pdf The firmware also provides an interface where the patrol read task can be initiated, set up for continuous operation, and terminated from a management application. Patrol read can be activated by a manual command or automatically. ServeRAID provides the ability to define a physical disk as a hot spare to replace a failed drive. Hot spares can be configured as either global or dedicated. A global hot spare allows any physical drive to be designated as a hot spare. A dedicated hot spare allows the user to assign a hot spare drive to a particular array of the same drive type. With redundant paths to the same port of a device, if one path fails, another path can be used to communicate between the controller and the drive. Using multiple paths with load balancing, instead of a single path, can increase reliability through redundancy. It allows you to configure, monitor, and maintain drive groups, virtual drives, and advanced features with an intuitive GUI, reducing administrative efforts and simplifying troubleshooting. RAID 0, 1, 5, and 6 drive groups do not support Online Capacity Expansion and Online RAID Level Migration if two or more virtual drives are defined on a single drive group. This technology represents a significant step forward in securing data on a disk drive from any unauthorized access or modification resulting from theft, loss, or repurposing of drives. Instant secure erase permanently removes data when repurposing or decommissioning SEDs. SafeStore local key management provides the necessary management and protection of SEDs using a simple pass phrase, security key identifier, and security key file that can be set and applied to all SEDs assigned to a ServeRAID adapter. This feature removes the complexity of managing each SED’s unique encryption key, and it essentially relieves the administrator of most of the daily tasks of securing data. The SafeStore is part of any RAID 5 upgrade that is available: 81Y4544, 81Y4484, 81Y4487, 81Y4559, or 47C8670.https://nicemexico.net/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1629c80dfb719e---cq61-410us-manual.pdf This module eliminates the need for a lithium-ion battery commonly used to protect DRAM cache memory on PCI RAID controllers. To avoid the possibility of data loss or corruption during a power or server failure, flash cache protection technology transfers the contents of the DRAM cache to NAND flash using power from the flash power module. After the power is restored to the RAID controller, flash cache protection technology transfers the contents of the NAND flash back to the DRAM, which will eventually be flushed to disk. This feature boosts the performance of applications with a highly random data storage access pattern, such as transactional databases. This is a Features on Demand upgrade and only one upgrade is needed per server; all M5100 and M5200 series adapters installed in the server will have this upgrade enabled automatically. CacheCade software tracks data storage access patterns and identifies the most frequently accessed data. The hot data is then automatically stored on the solid-state storage devices that are assigned as a dedicated cache pool on a ServeRAID controller with the M5100 Series SSD Caching feature (90Y4318) enabled. For details, refer to the following web page: Additional functional upgrades optionally are available to expand the standard capabilities. There are two types of available upgrades: hardware (HW) and Feature on Demand (FoD). Hardware upgrades contain physical parts (for example, cache module or battery). FoD upgrades are software licenses. The following table lists the available primary upgrades, their capabilities, and types. Note that older servers are not listed. During the system boot you will be given the following options. From the above capture you can also see that there is no virtual disk configured and the controller detected four JBOD disks. When you enter the utility, you will have the ability to select the adapter you want to configure. In our case we only have one adapter so it is very straightforward. Next, we have the MegaRAID BIOS configuration main menu for the selected adapter. From the main menu you select option “Configuration Wizard” and you will get the following screen. From the above configuration types, we select “New Configuration” since there is no prior configuration. This can also be used if you want to replace the existing configuration with a new one. Before proceeding you will get a warning that this selection will erase the current configuration as shown below. Next, you select the hard disk drives you want to add to the RAID array. To select more than one press CTRL key. In our case all four disks will be selected in order to implement the RAID-10 level. In the next window you will have to select “Manual Configuration” if you want to create a RAID-10 array. Below you select (once again using CTRL key) the first two disks and click “Add To Array” in order to add them to the “Drive Group0” on the right side panel. After adding the first two disks you click on “Accept DG” to complete the setup of this drive group and create a new one. Follow the same procedure and add the other two disks to the new drive group and then click “Accept DG” and “Next” to continue. You add the two newly created arrays to a span by selecting each one of them and then clicking on “Add to SPAN”. And as you can see below, the selected RAID level is 10. Here you can tune your RAID-10 configuration and when you are ready you click on “Update Size” and then “Accept” button. Finally, you can continue by hitting “Next” and after the usual warning messages and final review of the configration, the RAID will start initializing. On the bottom right you have some additional options that you can use but in any case, when the initialization process is completed the RAID-10 virtual disk will be ready to use. This gave me great reassurance while setting up RAID 10 on my IBM server. Thank you. I created 2 arrays of 3 disks that I want to put in Raid10 but when I add the 2 arrays in the SPAN volume and click NEXT, the only RAID level available is RAID00. What am I doing wrong. Is it because I have 3 disks instead of 2 in each arrays. I’ve been told that we can put more than 2 disks in a RAID1 level. Is it true ? Sorry, I am doing this for the first time. Thanks for your help. What I did to fix it is that I created 3 arrays of 2 disks then created a Spanned volume with all these 3 Arrays and then I’ve been able to set it as a RAID 10 array. My post was about using the RAID controller’s software (MegaRAID) which as far as I know it cannot be configured through server’s BIOS since the same server ships with different RAID controller(s) or in some cases even without one. Can you please be more specific? Thanks However, I can see 8 disks in IMM2 without any issue. Do you have any suggestions? Do I need to restart the server and run MegaRAID BIOS utility and rebuild from there? Is it possible to configure the drives in Raid 5 because its not showing the raid 5 option. It shows only the raid 1 and 0 The website loading speed is amazing. It kind of feels that you’re doing any unique trick. Moreover, The contents are masterpiece. Great tutorial! Saved my life!!!! How to get to WebBIOS to dispose of an existing configuration and make another, short of pulling out the hard drives to prevent auto boot? But i want to change it to RAID 10 (without data loss). Is it possible using above methond. Thanks Some 2 disks indicated failure a few days ago. I cannot boot my server to windows. The disks show unconfigured good. 1 disk indicates foreign. I tried to import it but it fails. Other disks dont indicate any failure right now but disks 2 and 6 are not in the inventory. How can I restore my RAID configuration and boot my server back to windows so that operations can continue as usual. However, my system fails to find the boot device on the next reboot. Why is this happening? You can set this by entering the LSI BIOS, then enter the Virtual Drives submenu.Dell uses same kind but much easier. It only takes a minute to sign up. I can't find any messages on boot about any hotkey to access the configuration utility. I wasn't able either in BIOS. In BIOS I can't find either information. I had to use the already installed ESXi to gather the information. Please be sure to answer the question. Provide details and share your research. Browse other questions tagged raid ibm-xseries or ask your own question. What other effects would this produce? I go through the steps to clear the configuration but after I still do not get the options to create virtual drives. I have cleared it under Storage Controller Management and I have also done it under the Drivers section with the same result. Grateful for any help which you can give. To me that choice should change the drive from being part of an array to being unconfigured, thus available for use in an array. Of course, the terminology they are using confused me before so I could certainly be wrong. I had inadvertently disabled the secondary controller when configuring the primary. CPU1 PCI-E slot 3 (the slot occupied by the secondary) had been enabled for use by Intel VMD (the primary). Thanks for the suggestions! You have to create the RAID array first, before you can create virtual drives. With the LSI cards, you have to create a drive group(s) before you can create a virtual drive. If you are trying to create a RAID 10 array you will want to create multiple drive groups, each one consisting of two drives. For all other RAID levels you only need to create a single drive group for each VD. Here is a Link to a Manual from LSI which should have the information you need. Once the array is created you create virtual disks. Then in the OS you partition and format those virtual disks. Will let you know how it goes The fundamental issue is that I am unable to get the option to create virutal drive after clearing the current configuration. The LSI manual speaks about a utility but that does not come up either. I called Lenovo support but they indicated I need to get one in my region and their phones seem to be having issues. Any other ideas. Have you created the array yet. As we've said above, you can't create VDs until there's an array. As said before there is no option to create array or virtual drives. Thanks for your help. But, okay, now I see what you are talking about which helps. What options do you have under Drive Management? Note that both are SSD drives Without seeing your screen it's really hard to know what's going on. There's no way for you to post screen shots? Or is the list you have showing all you can get to. Have you tried the Unconfigured Good choice. This is on port 4? Are there other drives on this controller. Some controllers don't support multiple arrays. To me that choice should change the drive from being part of an array to being unconfigured, thus available for use in an array. Of course, the terminology they are using confused me before so I could certainly be wrong. Planning to try it today. This is the link. Please consider upgrading to the latest version of your browser by clicking one of the following links. Consequently, during POST, a Foreign Configuration found message shows up. It could alternatively happen if the physical drives are moved from one server to another. Is there anything I need to do before I begin. If you've just replaced the Intel RAID Controller, always upgrade the RAID firmware before connecting the drives and attempting to import the RAID configuration. If the controller is new, don't connect any drives until you've upgraded the RAID firmware. Always ensure that your data is backed up and secure. Follow either of the two possible scenarios. The following is an example of how the RAID BIOS may show it under the Physical Drive (PD) Management menu: Go into the properties of each marked Frn-Bad drive and select Make unconfigured good, one at a time, as shown below: Manually making the drives unconfigured good results in the drive status moving from Frn-bad to Foreign. Exit the Ctrl-R RAID BIOS and let the system restart. The volume should be redetected, and the operating system should start up again. Note If the POST, the Foreign Configuration message still shows up. Hit F to import the foreign configuration and let the operating system boot up. However, there's a reminder on the right-hand side that there's Foreign Config information available. Notice in the example above that there's one Virtual Drive (VD) in the foreign configuration. Check that all of your configurations or virtual drives are present. If not, use the PD Mgmt tab to check that all of your physical drives are present as expected. If drives are missing, switch the system off and recheck all cables and drive seating. You get a pop-up menu for Foreign Config. Press Enter to open the Foreign Config menu to be given the choices of Import or Clear. Make sure Import is highlighted and press Enter. You're then prompted if you're sure you want to do this process. Highlight Yes and press Enter. The system should now go back to the VD Mgmt menu. Note that your expected VDs are online. During normal boot, after drive detection, the system should confirm that 1 Virtual Drive (VD) is installed and operational. Related topic Need help on Intel RAID?
