We also remove the following IBM Thinkpad parts. Screws, fan, keyboard, screen, hinges, RAM card, wires, cables, Wifi card, and most of the other parts on the main board. All I needed was a replacement system board. So I referred to the System Service Parts list, looked up my machine type (2373-3UU), and found that my mainboard is a 93P4158. I find a nice 93P4158 on eBay and snap it up for a reasonable cost (a mere fraction of what Lenovo wanted, that's for sure.) Based on the System Service Parts list, I purchased a new system board off eBay for my machine. Seller was reliable and it arrived right on schedule. But wait, what's this. The 93P4158 I received has a Radeon 7500. My 2373-3UU shipped with a Radeon Mobility 9600. I disassembled my machine and, to my disgust (but by this point, not surprise, sadly) found that the existing mainboard in my ThinkPad was a 93P415 9, contrary to what both the web site and the service manual say. So are both of these parts mislabeled, or is the web information wrong. It sounds like somewhere someone made an off by one mistake. Or do the 93P4158 and 93P4159 ship with multiple video chipsets each, making the FRU useless for determining which video chipset you have. Any insight - especially others who have a -3UU who happen to know their actual mainboard FRU number - would be greatly appreciated. If the service manual is wrong, I want to complain to Lenovo so it can be corrected. And if I made a mistake somewhere along the line, I'd love to know what I did wrong.http://eco-region31.ru/bosch-pst-700-pe-jigsaw-manualNote that the description for ATI M10-64 matches what your model ThinkPad has, that is an ATI 9600 with 64MB memory. If you search farther down the list, you will see the following. Note that the description for the 3Ux here says for ATI Fire GL with 128MB of memory. So the description in the list above for the 3Ux does not jive with the description in the list below for the 3Ux. I would Call IBM parts help at 1-800-765-5944 and ask them what going on. EDIT: See following thread. I don't know why you got a board labeled 93P4159 in a machine that was supposed to have an ATI9600 and a board 93P4158, but the fact is that it indeed had the intended GPU and recognized itself as a 93P4158, so from a 'new system' point of view, your machine was OK (it had the intended functionality). To begin with, how do you know it is a 93P4158 ?? are there labels in the box. ?. in the board ? did you mount it ? how does it recogniz itself (bios) ? I think 93P4159 is correct (the machine has 9600-64MB) on the service manual it says that 93P4159 is the 128-fire only real way to tell is to strip it!! So if I buy will strip and report!!! Hard to search for it without a proper name. TLDR; AppsKey::Send, Hello World. Any idea? P.S. The trackpad works flawlessly. Cheers. Reference: Edit: After dismantling the. NOT for T25-Retro. Some newer Lenovo models incorporate more curved surfaces in their design.www.enginertugral.com/ckfinder/userfiles/files/carver-gas-heater-manual.pdf Many ThinkPads have incorporated magnesium, carbon fiber reinforced plastic or titanium into their chassis. It was first introduced on some models in May 2012. Laptops with this feature scan for security chips that only ThinkPad-branded batteries contain. The Yoga gets its name from the consumer-oriented IdeaPad Yoga line of computers with the same form factor. The ThinkPad Yoga has a backlit keyboard that flattens when flipped into tablet mode. This is accomplished with a platform surrounding the keys that rises until level with the keyboard buttons, a locking mechanism that prevents key presses, and feet that pop out to prevent the keyboard from directly resting on flat surfaces. Lenovo implemented this design in response to complaints about its earlier Yoga 13 and 11 models being awkward to use in tablet mode. A reinforced hinge was required to implement this design. The Tablet 2 has 2 gigabytes of RAM and a 64 GB SSD.ThinkPad 8 has an 8.3-inch IPS display with a 16:10 aspect ratio and a resolution of 1920???1200 pixels. Also, non-widescreen displays are no longer available, with 16:9 aspect ratio as the only remaining choice. These ThinkPads are widely known to be the last ThinkPads to use the classic 7-row keyboard. Even though Enterprises and Governments have mostly phased out this 2011 ThinkPad, this is still one of the most popular models with I.T users (T-Series or Otherwise.http://ednak.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1629bda5b9a408---Cp-s370-manual.pdf) The Tx20 line of laptops is also known for its outstanding Linux compatibility.Initially, the T-Series ThinkPad was meant to have high-end business features and carry a 10-20 percent markup over the other ThinkPads. Starting with the T400, The ThinkPad T-Series became a less of a high-end business laptop and became more suited as a mobile workstation, becoming similar to the W-Series or P-Series ThinkPads. Achieving similar performance to the W-Series, but with a 5-10 percent smaller profile than the W-Series ThinkPads. In 2013, the T440 introduced another major shift in The ThinkPad T-Series. The ThinkPad became more of an overall office machine than a mobile workstation. By today's standards, The ThinkPad T-Series is thicker than most of its competitors. The current sub-lines for the X series includes:These include the traditional ThinkPad features, and have been noted for using a higher quality AFFS-type screen with better viewing angles compared to the screens used on other ThinkPads. The P Series (excluding models with 's' suffix) is designed for engineers, architects, animators, etc. All P Series models come included with fingerprint readers. The ThinkPad P Series includes features such as dedicated magnesium roll cages, more indicator LED lights, and high-resolution displays. This line includes external hard drives, a wireless router, a power bank, and a Bluetooth 4.0 speaker. Hitachi marketed Chandra2 as the Prius Note 210.In models using the Intel 440BX chipset, the RAM was expandable to 320 MB max with a BIOS update. Models had a 10.4 in (260 mm) screen and an 18 mm (0.71 in) key pitch (a standard key pitch is 19 mm (0.75 in)). They were also one of the first ThinkPad series to contain a built-in Mini PCI card slot (form factor 3b). The 240s have no optical disc drives and an external floppy drive. An optional extended battery sticks out the bottom like a bar and props up the back of the laptop. Weighing in at 2.9 lb (1.3 kg), these were the smallest and lightest ThinkPads ever made.Starting with the 486SLC2-50 Blue Lightning to the Pentium III 500, these machines had only a hard disk on board. Any other drives were external (or in the 570's case in the UltraBase). They weighed in at around 4 lb (1.8 kg).The 600-series packed a 12.1 in (310 mm) SVGA or a 13.3 in (340 mm) XGA TFT LCD, Pentium MMX, Pentium II or III processor, full-sized keyboard, and optical bay into a package weighing roughly 5 lb (2.3 kg). IBM was able to create this light, fully featured machine by using lightweight but strong carbon fiber composite plastics. The battery shipped with some 600-series models had a manufacturing defect that left it vulnerable to memory effect and resulted in poor battery life, but this problem can be avoided by use of a third-party battery.gercektercume.com/userfiles/files/carver-gas-fire-manual.pdfHence it was the biggest and heaviest ThinkPad series of its time, but also had features not even found in a T-series of the same age. The A-series was dropped in favor of the G-series and R-series.Being large and heavy machines, equipped with powerful desktop processors, this line of ThinkPads consequently served mainly as replacements for desktop computers.Lenovo envisioned the Scout as a very high-end ThinkPad that would be analogous to a luxury car. Each unit was covered in fine leather embossed with its owners initials. Extensive market research was conducted on how consumers would perceive this form factor. It was determined that they appreciated that it emphasised warmth, nature, and human relations over technology. The Scout was soon renamed the ThinkPad Reserve Edition. It came bundled with premium services including a dedicated 24-hour technical support hotline that would be answered immediately. The W-series laptops were launched in 2008, at the same time as the Intel Centrino 2, marking an overhaul of Lenovo's product lineup. The first two W-series laptops introduced were the W500 and the W700. The W7xx series were also available with a Wacom digitizer built into the palm rest. These high-performance workstation models offered more high-end components, such as quad core CPUs and higher-end workstation graphics compared to the T-series, and were the most powerful ThinkPad laptops available. Until the W540, they retained the ThinkLight, UltraBay, roll cage, and lid latch found on the T-series. The W540 release marked the end of the lid latch, ThinkLight, and hot-swappable UltraBays found in earlier models. Most W-series laptops offer high-end quad-core Intel processors with an integrated GPU as well as an Nvidia Quadro discrete GPU, utilizing Nvidia Optimus to switch between the two GPUs as required. Notable exceptions are the W500, which has ATI FireGL integrated workstation-class graphics, and the W550s, which is an Ultrabook -specification laptop with only a dual-core processor. The W-series laptops offer ISV certifications from various vendors such as Adobe Systems and Autodesk for CAD and 3D modeling software. The design was a radical departure compared to the traditional black boxy ThinkPad design, with glossy surfaces (optional matte finish on later models), rounded corners, and silver trim. They were also offered in red, a first for the traditionally black ThinkPads. The ThinkPad Twist has plenty going for it: a bright IPS display, a good port selection, an affordable price and an unrivaled typing experience. Like ThinkPads past, it also offers some useful software features for businesses lacking dedicated IT departments. All good things, but what's a road warrior to do when the battery barely lasts four hours. Something tells us the Twist will still appeal to Lenovo loyalists, folks who trust ThinkPad's build quality and wouldn't be caught dead using any other keyboard. As all essential processing hardware is contained in the display assembly and it has multitouch capability, the detached monitor can be used as a standalone tablet computer. In a sea of touch-inspired Windows 8 hardware, it's the first ultrabook convertible with a form factor that gets everything right. The first batch of Windows 8 ultrabooks get high marks for their inspired designs, but aren't quite flexible enough to truly be BYOD (Bring Your Own Device) solutions. Lenovo's own IdeaPad Yoga came close, but the sensation of feeling the keyboard underneath your fingers when transformed into tablet mode was slightly jarring. The most powerful configuration had a Skylake Core i7 processor and a 512 GB SSD. This lineup was merged into the L-Series in 2018, with the L380 being the successor to the 13 Second Generation.Weighing in at 2.9 pounds (1.31 kg) this model features AMD Carrizo or Bristol Ridge APU's, AMD Radeon R7 graphics and AMD DASH (Desktop and mobile Architecture for System Hardware) for enterprise computing. Weighing at 3.48 pounds (1.57 kg), like the A275 it features AMD Carrizo or Bristol Ridge APU's, AMD Radeon R7 graphics and AMD DASH (Desktop and mobile Architecture for System Hardware) for enterprise computing. Weighing in at 2.78 lb (1.26 kg), this model utilizes an AMD Raven Ridge APU with integrated Vega graphics, specifically the Ryzen 5 Pro 2500U. The laptop also contains a Discrete Trusted Platform Module (dTPM) for data encryption and password protection, supporting TPM 2.0. Optional security features include a fingerprint scanner and smart card reader. The display's native resolution can be either 1366???768 or 1920???1080 depending on the configuration. This model can use multiple models of Raven Ridge APU's, unlike the A285. The display's native resolution can be either 1366???768 or 1920???1080 depending on the configuration. Laptop repair tools 12. Disassembly tips for beginners There are two 256MB modules. The second module is hidden under the keyboard. Many thanks. You can replace just one memory card on in the bottom easily accessible slot. If you install a 1GB module, your laptop will see 1.25GB total. Thanks, I appreciate it. Also how would you increase the c hard drive memory on this laptop?, i want to hold on to the laptop but the memory is small 512mb and the c drive has only 6gb. You don’t have to remove the keyboard in a ThinkPad T20 because both memory slots can be accessed through the bottom door. Also how would you increase the c hard drive memory on this laptop. According to the hardware and maintenance manual, there are many different optional hard drives listed for this model, up to 60GB drives. Check out the page 171. By the way, in the same manual you’ll find instructions accessing both memory slots. Here’s what you can try. Remove memory modules one by one and test your laptop with both memory modules installed into different slots. If your laptop works fine with the original 512MB module installed into both slots but locks up with the 1GB module, it’s possible that your new module is defective. If your laptop works fine with both modules installed into the first slot but locks up with both modules in the second slot, it’s possible that you have a faulty memory slot.If the module fails test, it’s bad. I had trouble with a pc2700 in my t41 and when I installed a pc2100 it worked fine. I also had a problem with HI Density PC133 in a a20 and had to buy LO Density modules. HI density works in a t23 but not in the a Series. Outstanding! Thank you. Also, thank you for saying exactly what RAM I needed to buy. You made something that was so alien to me simple.I want to put a 160-250gb hard drive in the machine.I am trying to upgrade my T40 which has only the base 256MB RAM. I bought a Kingston 1GB 2100 module, and I am having a similar problem as one of the previous posters. The computer beeps but won’t start up. I am guessing that it’s either a compatibility issue with the original module, or it’s faulty. I was told to upgrade the BIOS but that didn’t work. I don’t think that the restore CD calls for a 40GB drive. I have a ThinkPad T42 myself and recently I replace the original 40GB drive with a 80GB drive. After that I was able to use the same original restore CDs set. Also, I have an extra 1GB module installed and it didn’t cause me any problem during OS installation. The question is if your laptop can handle a new 160-250GB drive. I don’t know that, haven’t tried it myself. Make sure the memory module is installed correctly. Test your laptop with the original 256MB module installed in both slots and after that test it with a new 1GB module installed into both slots. Will it work with each module separately. I decided to look in the machine. My T42(refurbished by IMB) had one 512 pc2700 memory card inside(not the one easily accessible) I decided to put the card into the easily accessible slot to see if the laptop runs better. If I want to add another 512 card, should it also be 2700. Thanks Dale. Yes, if you want to add another memory module, you should use a PC2700 module. Apparently it did not like the other slot it was in. Dale DDR2 memory is not backward compatible with DDR memory. If you would like to upgrade to 2B, you’ll have to buy two 1GB PC2700 modules. First of all. Does your laptop support 2GB RAM. Maybe 1GB is maximum you can install. Check the user’s guide. If your laptop suppose to support 2GB, try the following. Test the laptop with each RAM module installed into each slot. If the laptop works with one module installed into both slots but no with the other module, most likely the second module is bad. If the laptop works with both modules installed into the first slot, but doesn’t work with both modules installed into the second slot, there must be a problem with the memory slot on the motherboard. Kind regards No other comment to make. Thanks. I had a couple of 512MB modules lying around and installed them in my T41 in 5 minutes. Thanks heaps. Great job! I have a problem with a T42. The laptop works no problem if placed on a flat non-moving surface using the touchpad but it will lock up if the trackpoint mouse is used. I removed the extra memory module, etc, but still not improvement.I installed a pair of 1GB Avant AVK6428U52C5333K6 so-dimms, chips by South Korean Hynix Semiconductor (bought dirt cheap!). Put both so-dimms into a T42. On first boot-up, went to into BIOS, saw the 2048MB, hit F10 to save and exit. The T42 booted beautifully into XP Pro. Been using the T42 a lot for the past couple of days, with no lockups or blue-screening. Thanks again, I would have been fighting with the keyboard removal, without your step by step. This is so helpful!!! Thanks for your time. Really appreciated. I never thought I would remove my entire keyboard and be able to put it back and the laptop still works!!! Now my laptop is asking me to install new hardware. I am not sure what to do now. I am not sure this hardware is on the list the computer has for me to select. Any suggestions. I am not sure what to do now. Any suggestions. Your laptop detects new hardware after upgrading the memory module. That’s strange. I’m sure it’s not related to the memory you just installed. I’ve installed it on the 2nd slot (the one with easy access). It was working properly until yesterday, when a blue screen says out of memory. Now, when I took the 2nd memory out (1Gb), It works fine. When I put the module in the notebook, It do not start. Do you know what could be wrong. Thanks in advance. I have 3 or 4 T40s Mobo whit this problem once again thank you in advance Grettings from Mexico It had 2X512 MB memory cards when I got it. I just bought a 1 GB memory card and tried to replace the 512 MB card in the slot on the bottom and the computer wouldn’t boot. I then put the 512 MB card back in the bottom slot and put the 1 GB card in the slot under the keyboard and it worked fine and recognized all 1.5 GB. Can i use this ram Also can i use any other similiar compatable ram, incase orignal ibm ram is not available PC2700 (DDR-333) 200-Pin SODIMM RAM Please do let me know However, there’s a BIOS bug which prevents most OSs (including XP) from seeing more than 2GB of memory, so if you install a 2GB stick of DDR2 RAM in an XP computer you might as well leave the other memory slot empty.
