OPERA TION 4 Y our Hunter Thermostat is designed to operate with most gas, oil, electric or 2-wire hot water heating, and air conditioning systems t hat have 24-volt or millivolt control. This featur e will prevent damage to your air conditioner compressor caused by rapid cycling. It does not provide a delay when there ar e power outages. POWER F AILURE 7 Whenever the main power is interrupted or fails, the battery power retains the pr ograms and current time. It does this by matching your comfort (the temperatures in your home) to your schedule. When this happens, install new batteries immediately. Once the “LOW BA TT” indicator appears, the thermostat will continue to operate for approximately 30 days. (Only alkaline batteries should be used in your thermostat. Rechar geable batteries have different pr operties which may cause the thermostat to not operate properly. Do not use old batteries.) The batteries should last one year. CAUTION: The batteries are the only sour ce of power used to operate your system. If you do not replace the batteries, the display will dim and your heating and cooling system will stop operation. NOTE: If you plan to be away from the premises over 30 days, we r ecommend that you replace the old batteries with new alkaline batteries prior to leaving. (See Figure 1). 8-9 Installation What Y ou Need Remove Old Thermostat NOTE: Follow the labels when connecting wires since many installations do not follow color coding of wires. T ABLE A Otherwise, if you have separate RH and RC wires (5-wir e system), then remove the jumper wir e between the RH and RC terminals. NOTE: Do not connect a “Common” wire (sometimes labelled “C”) to any terminal on this thermostat. T ape up the wire and do not use. This wire pr ovides electricity to non- battery powered thermostats. Wir e Labeling Position wallplate on wall and pull existing wires thr ough large opening. Then level for appearance. Mark holes for plastic anchors provided if existing holes do not line up with Hunter Thermostat holes. Reposition wallplate to wall, pulling wires thr ough large opening. Insert mounting scr ews provided into wall anchor and tighten. If you have an electric furnace, test to see whether the heat and fan come on as expected. Leave the switch in the “HG” position. If the fan does not come on when the thermostat calls for heat, change the switch position to “HE.” The system selector has no effect in the cooling mode. For some odd reason if you want to switch between arbitrary Fahrenheit and standard Celsius, it has to completely reset the unit. Unfortunately, it lacks a fine grained control for Celsius (at least I feel like it should have half steps since it seems to have been balanced wrong in my house -- maybe an adjustment of the interval might help, but I didn't feel like dealing with it) so I don't really recommend getting this one with that in mind as others likely do it better. Anyway, it's simple and cheap, but it gets the job done fairly well and beats those crappy basic analog thermostats.Our stove, like the majority of pellet stoves, can be operated by using a simple wall thermostat to turn the stove on and off, much like a conventional furnace. Over the years, it has always been our practice to manually turn down the thermostat each night before retiring and turning it back up the next morning. This generally works just fine except for those evenings when we forget. Additonally, on those extra cold mornings, once the stove was turned on, it would take quite some time to get the temperature up to a comfortable level. Neither of these situations is earth shattering, but as I get older, I must admit I continually try to make my life just a little bit easier. This battery controlled thermostat has done just that. I replaced an old Honeywell manual thermostat with this item, programmed it without a problem, and it has worked flawlessly for the last month. It turns our pellet stove off 30 minutes prior to retiring and turns it back on 30 minutes before we get up. It can also be programmed for up to 4 weekday settings, to accomodate your work schedule, and seperate settings for the weekend should this be a priority. It is definetly not fancy but it is inexpensive and easy to operate and we are very pleased overall.I ordered this hoping it would fit perfectly where my last unit was and it did. Super easy to install.It was a straight forward swap from my original. No problems. Very satisfied customer.However, the up button got so it was very hard to set the temperature higher. So hubby just changed it out for this model. You cannot retro fit this one over the older model, because this one is about one inch smaller on all sides. If they did leave a manual-- what does it suggest for narrowing down your possible problems? Like: Low Fuel-- Low Voltage- Filter Changes, Fan switch problems- or ignition failure problems? If the problem occured before the t-stat change and is still happening, the problem would be with ignition within the furnace.If your old one didn't have letters or you already disconnected it, you will have to go to the furnace. Under one of the panels there will be a control board to which the thermostat wires connect and this might have the letters printed on it. Trace them back and connect them appropriately.
