You may change the light setting or the channel type on the Advanced RSSTM using a programming mode that is accessed by touching the wet switch contacts on the bottom of the RSSTM. NOTE: Please read this and the next section BEFORE you try to program the Advanced RSSTM using the wet switch contacts. Specific step-bystep procedures to turn on the light and to change the channel follow this section. You will find it easier to perform these steps once you have grasped the way the programming mode works. RSSTM Power. The Remote Sonar Sensor (RSSTM) has a separate, nonreplaceable lithium battery that has a shelf life of three years and will last for approximately 500 hours of in-water use (when the nighttime LED is turned off). Ricochet8110 4.0 out of 5 stars It is not ment for picture perfect views, like a lowrance, but it does give invaluable information to the angler such as: water temperature, and depth (bottom and fish). As a fish finder it is not completely accurate it has a limited view field, and it can't tell you what type of fish or how many fish there are, but it can tell you what depth they are located. For a guy like myself who has two kids (6 and 4) it also gives me another opportunity to teach them other lessons about fishing. Like, how water temperature and depth are important. If it only had barometric pressure it would be the best tool for the job. Anyways, it gives me the ability to have the information I need in my hands so I have a better idea of what to use and where to put it. If you are looking to just find the fish you need to look elswhere, but if you need accurate information to help with your excursions then this is a helpful tool. It is not perfect but fishing is a sport.Have fun, enjoy the day, and good fishing. It's a great fish finder for the price. It was heavy enough to cast a long distance. It worked great at 100 feet away like it said it would. It was a lot smaller than I thought it would be (which is great!). It fits perfect on my rod with no movement at all. The only problem I have is that it's not bright enough. When fishing in bright sunlight I can't really see the screen. But no big problem for me to rant about. -edit- After a lot of use it is still working great. What I have found that is if you have a weight or sinker on line with the green floater it will not work. I had a tiny wight on it and it still stopped working after I reeled in. Guess it pulled it under to much and lost signal. So do not use a weight with it on!I tested it in a 10ft deep pool and all it would tell me was the water temp. So I called Hummingbird for help; their solution to the problem was to send me another RF45 bobber to see if that is the problem. That sounded good to me till they told me that the bobbers where on back order. They did not tell me for how long. Come to find out 2 days later when I called to check my order that the estimated date of shipping was 15 days from now. REALLY?! I told the CSR that on your website Hummingbird.com it shows the RF45 bobbers as IN STOCK. His answer was that the website store is not run by them and that they are separate from the store, they just supply the store. The new bobber gave me less than a dozen casts of proper function before it stopped sending info and all I was left with was a WAITING FOR SIGNAL message on the screen. They finally got back to me only to tell me, give us a credit card and well send you a replacement. Really? Pass I understand what they are doing but at the same time their product is junk so I just sent it back. Wash my hands of it and move on. Wish it would have worked right definitely not worth the hassle. Take a pass on this one folks.I would've liked the one with the bigger screen, and while the display is neat, it does cost twice as much and the rod mount is very handy when you're walking up and down the bank. It's so light you won't even tell it's mounted on your rod. At first I couldn't get the battery to connect (yes, I removed the protective plastic inside), but after a couple of battery reinstalls I finally got it going. Took it out this morning to give it a go and it worked perfectly. I found a channel in pond I fish in that I didn't even know was there. We all know that 80 of a lake or pond doesn't have any fish, but now I can not only find out where they should be, I can even tell if they're there or not. Wow. Couldn't be easier to use. It's all set to go right out of the box (well, except for adjusting the time, contrast and removing the protective battery plastic), it's good to go. The screen is a little small and rough, but still has enough definition to easily tell what's going on, and I could see it with no problem. Fish, logs, weeds all showed up no problem. In finder mode the battery should last 40 hours, and there's an extra battery in the box (but I should've order the pack of spares just in case). It's a watch also, and that's the (power-saving) mode it goes into to save the battery. My only complaint is that the bobber's battery can't be replaced. I don't see why they couldn't make it round like a normal bobber and that way you could screw the top off to replace the battery. But 500 hours is a LOT of hours, so replacing it once a season is no big deal in the grand scheme of things. Man, I wish I had this 40 years ago!
