Dan the Man 4.0 out of 5 stars Set-up is straightforward. If you use their pre-recorded message (you can also record your onw) you'll have 56 minutes of recording (not the 48 minutes they advertise), so that's bonus. Actually, I can't find anything to complain about with this unit. The controls are easy to learn and it simply works fine. A good product at an excellent price. I gave it only 4 stars because all digital recorders lack depth of tone, but, hey.it's an answering maching not a hi-fi recorder, but I have no problem understanding calls, controlling the unit or retrieving calls when I'm not home. NIce little basic answering machine that just works well. It's an excellent answering machine. It's easy to program and easy to use. There are great options. If you choose, telemarketer calls are blocked and not allowed through. The message audio is clear. The buttons are clear. Just be smart and read through the instructions first. The machine basically walks you through the set up. Leave the instructions near the phone if you need to reprogram if you lose power to your house. I love this machine. If anything happens to it I'll buy another one just the same. This ease-of-use is due partly a brief written tutorial included with the phone in case you need it, but even nicer is the fact that, as you're setting up the functions, the machine gives you audio instructions as well. I just LOVE products that do what they should without my having to read a novella to figure out how to make that happen, and if it's so easy to figure out that I don't need to read at all, I'll buy it.BAUGHERS.COM/ckfinder/userfiles/files/bresser-biolux-al-manual.pdf A well-designed product should be so self-explanatory that reading should be minimal, and I found that to be the case with this machine. The only thing that could definitely be improved is the sound quality, both incoming and outgoing (my own greeting). It's sometimes hard to catch the name or number if people talk too fast or are calling from a cell. But it's not a major problem, and for the price, it's alright. I don't see the point in paying every month to get voice mail when this machine does precisely the same thing without storing my messages in someone else's server, and here I can save my messages to my heart's content without having to re-save after 21 days. We've all gotten those sweet greetings we never want to erase, and contact info on which we'll be following up periodically. Now, if ATT provided a way to get those off the machine and save in an audio file so we could run those as we're taking care of our follow-ups (helpful business app), that would be innovative and I'd love it. As it stands, however, this machine provides a nice package of features. You can decide whether or not you want your messages broadcast as they come in, whether or not you want the phone numbers announced so you can hear it across the room and decide if the call is something you want to drop what you're doing to answer, you choose whether or not you want the number stored with the message, whether to accept blocked calls, receive a message alert (beeps every 15 seconds to let you know there's a new call if you forget to check when you come home), etc. You also get remote access, language setting, ring select (choose how many before the machine picks up, between 2 and 7), and a dedicated button for set-up. All told, it's a nice little package for a just a few clams, and no monthly fee from the phone company. I like it.So I bought this model, which I noticed got mixed reviews. Within a month, this machine started acting weird. My doctor's office was not able to leave a message.http://www.hptindia.com/wp-content/plugins/formcraft/file-upload/server/content/files/1628b65e858a41---Canon-powershot-sx120is-manual-pdf.pdf Worse, they thought they were leaving a message, but it never recorded. I had no indication they'd called. When I found out, I asked the receptionist to try again, then call me on my cell phone. She did try, and again thought she left a message, but nothing was indicated. Then another one of my friends said the machine hung up on him twice, so he also couldn't leave a message. Several other friends and businesses started reporting they also weren't able to leave messages. When I was present in the room, listening to the calls, it sounded like people just hung up and I heard no voices. So the problem was more than just inability to record messages. It wasn't even taking them. I have now disconnected the machine, and put back my old model. At least the old one only hung up on my sister. I suspect the issue may have to do with today's phones, especially mobile phones that may broadcast in a different manner which the answering machines can't pick up. I wish I saw a solution to this problem.Easy to set up. Voice messaging and incoming messages are very clear. Recommend this one highly, as we have had problems with voice levels and clarity with other machines. Great for the price.A par cela, tout etait OK.In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. Delta Lady 4.0 out of 5 stars Although it's hardwired to the unit itself, if I ever need a longer line, I would purchase an inexpensive extension. I owned an older mode of this unit about eight years ago and like this one better in a number of respects. It comes with simple to understand directions, set-up is hassle-free and extremely easy. The directions specify that after you play a message however, that you must re-set the volume to low again to place it in the silent (or less volume) mode. Not a hard thing to remember, and certainly not an issue. It only entails pushing a button a few times. There is some crackling at times in the playback (why it did not get five stars from me), however I found that if the volume is increased, the crackling (or break-up) disappears. I have had no problem understanding any of the messages left and feel that at times, people do not speak clearly, loydly enough, etc. (as was the case with my older unit) so cannot fault the unit for this. However, I have had callers with both booming voices and people who talk softly by nature (and everyine in between) leave messages, and again, have had no problem understanding any of them. A plus my older unit did not have it that this unit does not record messages that are hang-up calls (typical telemarketer ploy), which was always a nusiance on the older unit. A royal time-waster. No problem in that regard with this unit. We have several different phones and have gotten no interference. But yoe do not need to plug a phone into it for it to work. A nice option, for us, anyway. You can't beat it for the money, it is nearly pure simplicity. Much less than phone company voice mail, much easier to access. Just go through the instructions step-by-step and keep them handy in case you want to change the setting on any feature. It has a smaller footprint than my older unit also, so was easy to place where we wanted it to be. I would have spent twice that much running around looking for one. And yes, it is made in China. Show me one made in the USA and I will gladly buy it!Please try again later. Please try again later. The shelves are bare on choices for stand alone answering machines in 2014. I think I bought this at least 2 years ago maybe more. Clear sound. Accurate time, etc. and it's saving my bacon with all the Telephone Solicitors continually calling. If I know you say your name. Then it beeps for their message. I set the rings for 4 rings and it never fails to start the message right after 4 rings. I recommend you buy these while you can because over night they stopped making the tape kind and it wouldn't surprise me if they suddenly stopped making these. Please try again later. I have the previous model. It's adequate. So I thought I'd give this one a try. Then I got it and set it up. If anyone out there knows of an answering machine with really good sound quality, I be grateful if you'd make a comment with that information in it. These are the Pros and Cons for me: Pros: Fairly easy to set up Simple to operate About 40 min. It's very tinny and distorted. Also, when I recorded my outgoing message, there is an echo on my voice. What's with that? Messages left for me have even more of an echo on them. You notice it more because it's louder and the echo is delayed more than with my outgoing message. The phone cord is hardwired and too short. I have no idea what the logic is behind hardwiring the phone cord. I'd like to be able to replace the cord if it fails or, as in my case, I would like to use a longer cord. I know I can buy an adapter an add a cord, buy why is this even necessary. If you turn it off, it turns itself back on after 10 rings and answers. If I turn it off, I want it to stay off. It's in expensive and you get what you pay for. Please try again later. Please try again later. Hank S. 1.0 out of 5 stars The quality of the recorded outgoing message, and also incoming messages, was so poor as to be borderline unintelligible. I tried recording the outgoing message several times using different recording parameters (volume, distance from speaker, voice loudness), and no matter what, it would give me a hissing sound at the end of most words. The reason I decided to try this machine was that it seemed to receive significantly better reviews than the model 1740. I don't know who is writing these favorable reviews, but I can only conclude that their hearing capabilities, or standards, are far different from the average person's. To say this answering machine is a huge disappointment is a gross understatement, and I would give it zero stars if I could. Unfortunately, there are only 3-4 commercially available stand alone answering machines out there, and none of them get great, or even good reviews. It's depressing to think that I may be forced to use the phone company voice mail. Please try again later. Please try again later. Be realistic. This answering machine was very easy to set up. The instructions that come with it are clear, in large print and with pictures and I feel the average person should have no problem doing the setup. You can set the number of rings before it answers; if you have caller ID it verbally announces the number of the party who is calling; it is very easy to record a greeting. In fact, everything is very easy about this machine. As for the sound quality - it is not the best, but then neither is it unintelligible, either. The machine is also a nice, compact size if you have space considerations. Granted, I have only used this for a few weeks so I can't comment on the durability but out of the box this machine is easy to set up and does what it is supposed to do. The only negative I have is that there is no display screen for the incoming call when using caller ID; it is purely a verbal announcement so if you miss it then you don't really know who is calling you. I am satisfied with this unit and would recommend it.Please try again later. Please try again later. William C. Hanson, Jr. 4.0 out of 5 stars We have cordless phones which have an answering machine built into the base station but I like a stand alone answering machine so that I can walk in and look at the answering machine and see if there are any new messages. Also, I can better control the messages. Not many companies make a stand alone answering any more. The light on this one blinks if there is a new message just like the old one. The old machine had four channels so that a person could leave a message for any of four people. This one has one channel. I accidently hit the delete button on this one and it deleted all the messages. Also, if a fax was received, the old one would automatically kick over to the fax machine. Sometimes, this one will do the same thing. The messages are not as clear on this machine. I gave it four stars because I probably could not do much better today. Please try again later.
