Use the fabric fastener to make the cuff snug, but not too tight. Place the stethoscope in your ears. Tilt the ear pieces slightly forward to get the best sound. 3. Inflate and deflate the cuff If you are using a manual monitor: Hold the pressure gauge in your left hand and the bulb in your right. Close the airflow valve on the bulb by turning the screw clockwise. Inflate the cuff by squeezing the bulb with your right hand. You may hear your pulse in the stethoscope. Watch the gauge. Keep inflating the cuff until the gauge reads about 30 points (mm Hg) above your expected systolic pressure. At this point, you should not hear your pulse in the stethoscope. Wait one minute before repeating the measurement. Start by reapplying the cuff. If you are using a digital monitor: Hold the bulb in your right hand. Press the power button. All display symbols should appear briefly, followed by a zero. This indicates that the monitor is ready. If you have a monitor with automatic cuff inflation, press the start button. Sit quietly and watch the monitor. Pressure readings will be displayed on the screen. For some devices, values may appear on the left, then on the right. Wait for a long beep. This means that the measurement is complete. Note the pressures on the display screen. Systolic pressure (the force of the blood against the artery walls as your heart beats) appears on the left and diastolic pressure (the blood pressure between heartbeats) on the right. Your pulse rate may also be displayed in between or after this reading. Allow the cuff to deflate. If you did not get an accurate reading, DO NOT inflate the cuff again right away. I took her blood pressure every day, and it was high, so I ended up taking her to the doctors. After an extensive work up, I compared this blood pressure cuff to the ones at the hospital, and this one was 15 mmhg too high. I tried their calibration tool, but it even says on the instructions included with the tool that it can only calibrate for differences up to 6 mmhg, less than half the difference I have. I ended up returning it and buying a Welch allyn one instead.Firstly, the gauge couldn’t be clipped anywhere convenient. There was a loop inside the cuff but that didn’t make any sense to me. Tried using it on some of my family members to test it out and the gauge is completely inaccurate. It took a lot of pumps to get it going and the results were always higher than what it should be. I just had my blood pressure taken electronically and it was within normal range. After using this, apparently I have hypertension. This product also poses a danger to people as it gives inaccurate readings of being used in the medical setting for real data. I guess it’s fine for practicing and hearing the blood pressure but not for actual data readings.I work in home health care and only use these with pt's that have afib or irregular conditions that cause my automatic BP sleeve to malfunction so these got used maybe twice a month. I kept it in the zip up bag inside my big bag so it was protected and treated well. Build quality looks good but the proof is in the performance and that obviously was lacking. Don't buy it! I asked the company to provide me a replacement diaphragm fro the cuff but no reply to my message on AMAZON.Since the cuff is not accurate up to 42cm dia arms as claimed, and the materials used questionable for heavy duty, a replacement unit could work again, but for how long. Good ones last 2 yrs of heavy use, lose calibration which is fixable, but even good mechanisms becomes erratic after much pounding, so these have to be built tough.My med school bp kit from welch allen is still ticking 20 plus years later but I misplaced it in a move. This paramed cuff has thinner tubing, the meter is made of durable metal material even if clip is flimsy. Cuff seems like it will last. I brought this cuff to work at the hospital to compare against hospital equipment. Using a manual hospital BP cuff and an electronic digital cuff both showed this device is on average 14-18 points TOO HIGH for both the systolic (upper number) and diastolic ( lower number) readings. The only good news is your blood pressure will be much lower than this device reads but you also might take a needless and expensive trip to the emergency room thinking your blood pressure is too high. Also I noticed a coupon in the box stating the company will send you a FREE stethoscope if you write a review on Amazon hence all the wonderful reviews. A variation in readings of 14-18 points is way too much for this device to be safely used. In addition, the quick start guide is a great pictorial with detailed instructions for obtaining a successful reading. After fiddling and fighting with an automated blood pressure cuff for the past couple years, it is such a pleasure to pump it up and get results that I trust again. I would rate this device a '5' and would buy it again, although I doubt I will ever need to.Pros -The inflation bulb and bladder hose are very good quality rubber, very soft and easy to squeeze. -The air release valve feels like very nice steel, and easy to turn. -The manometer gauge is nice and heavy which is good, and it's accurate compared to other cuffs I have. -I like that it has a metal D-ring in the cuff so it can be tightened with one hand.
