The information this book holds, is beyond belief. Over 47 years of restoration advise and tips. The content is what I would want if I was restoring a car. No beating round the bush, just hard facts. Lots of my secrets and tips. There is even a few Model 'A' poems at the rear. I have taken an imaginary and complete 1930 'open' vehicle, 83 years old, with zero miles on the speedo, so it is 100 complete. The car is then dismantled bolt by bolt, giving every part number and showing all the parts, bolts and nuts removed in the process. Once the frame has been straightened and restored, the mechanicals are added, then the painted body, top, upholstery, etc is fitted, until a complete car can be driven away. The book does not end there, leaving the owner high and dry. There are following chapters on the starting of the car for beginners, general maintenance, even how to put a tire on a rim. Over 1000 color pictures with every part with it's correct part number. 366 pages. I have used the conventional manuals that are available for the United States built Automobiles for all of my repairs----and I have been very frustrated on several mechanical repair occasions over those years. The author provided good coverage on that problem area. I contacted him by e-mail and found a supply house (in New Zealand) that has mailed me the correct clamp. So I was sold on the manual. Along the same line is a tip for not over tightening the rear exhaust clamp to allow for expansion of the entire exhaust system. I don't recall reading about that before---but perhaps I missed it in the other manuals that I own. The author has provided excellent coverage for both RH and LH Drive vehicles with lots of details---so you can't go wrong. There are following chapters on simple matters, general maintenance, headlight and clutch adjustment, brake rod and shoe adjustment, lubrication, etc. The book is easy to follow. It is written so that a new beginner can understand and follow. Actually written with beginners in mind, and all pictures in full colour. Items such as the complete top, top irons, seat springs and upholstery, engine parts, etc are a few examples where their services are a must. This is no different, than say a restorer trying to make his own tires. You have to rely on the strengths of other manufacturers and suppliers. Stressed is how important local engineering shops and engine shops are to the restorer if you do not have the engineering equipment or skills. Tops, side curtains, seat springs and upholstery are all purchased as complete kits for local upholstery shops to install. Many pictures are included of top, seats, side curtains, pin striping etc. Painting and pinstriping are both handled in a similar manner. If every detail of these items were explained in fill with pictures, and every body style covered, the book would be way too heavy and extremely expensive. I have struck a happy medium. Some of the above areas of restoration you may want to undertake yourself. I've bought new parts but the methods of aligning the structure and joining the parts are elusive. Marty. This was Haynes Project 50, and if you were lucky enough to be in Las Vegas at the 2011 AAPEX trade show, you might have seen it in person, before it was shipped off to the Haynes International Motor Museum, in Sparkford, England. In part two we began to clear out the accumulation of dirt and dead animals from inside the interior, and remove the trim and exterior panels to start the pre-paint body work. In part three we stripped out the rest of the drivetrain and pared the body down to the bare shell, then organized all the parts. Part four involved the dusty and hot work of media blasting the old shell, after bracing it properly, and beginning the engine rebuild. We are experts and even we ended up with a car that was more work than we expected, but there is no arguing about how great this classic Ford Mustang looked in the end. If you'd like a much more indepth look at the process, get yourself a copy of our Ford Mustang Restoration Guide, which has plenty of good information even if you are working on a classic car that isn't a Mustang. The worst area revealed by our paint stripping was a perforated panel between the trunk lid and the edge of the convertible top, likely a place where moisture collected when it rained. The Project 50 Mustang also had quite a bit of rust in the floor boards (typical for a soft top, sunroof, or T-top car, because eventually they all leak) and in the trunk. We didn't bother trying to patch the rust holes throughout the panels here, we just welded in perfectly matched reproduction metal. If you have a VW Transporter (what we call the VW Microbus here in the United States) there is a very comprehensive guide in the VW Bay Transporter Restoration Manual. Much closer in concept to the Mustang was the Ford of Europe Capri, and Haynes covers the MkI-MkIII in their Ford Capri Restoration Manual. Most of the Haynes restoration manuals, as you might guess, cover popular models of British classic cars, like the Land Rover Series I, II, and III, and 90, 110, and Defender Restoration Manuals, as well as a MGB Restoration Manual, a Morris Minor Restoration Manual, a Mini Restoration Manual, and a Jaguar XJ6 Restoration Manual. The Wheeler Dealers Car Restoration Manual does not get as in depth as the other restoration books, or a normal Haynes Manual, but it covers 10 of the most popular restorations from the show in much greater detail than you get from TV. Some of the cars featured include Austin Mini, Jaguar E-Type, Porsche 911, Willys Jeep, and the Amphicar. If you love old cars, or just enjoyed Mike Brewer and Edd China, this book is enjoyable and informative. The car has never been on display in the museum and was in need of repair. Because the car is a not a “survivor”, meaning it is not an all-original unrestored example, we determined it would not display well to tell the story of the Ford Model A and represent the Model A Cabriolet in all its beauty. Although the car was complete and very solid, our assessment revealed that over the years it has had one or more semi-restorations and was well used, with areas that have been altered or are not correct for the model or year. However, all the important and hard to find Cabriolet components are present making it a great candidate for a full restoration. The Briggs Manufacturing Co., (1909-1954; Detroit, Michigan) was commissioned to build the Cabriolet bodies for Ford. The Cabriolet model was styled to have a fold-back convertible top and doors with roll-up side windows, a design that was new in its time. The Cabriolet afforded the driver and passenger the comfort of a sedan in inclement weather and the fun of an open roadster on sunny days. Mr. Peters, Jr. was a member of the Ford Model A Club of America in Colorado where the car has lived since 1959 (and possibly longer). Mr. Peters, Jr. acquired the car from Harold E.
