Also 2 stars because It tells me to change the fuel filter, and even tells me where it is, but after 1 hour looking for it(no pictures) and researching online for the location and watching videos (not exactly for focus 2010 but 2005 and others) I found out that there is not a fuel filter in my car.I have other Haynes manuals that I really like, but this book falls short on describing in enough detail various repairs. I bought it to help me change the power steering pressure hose and the thermostat on a 2006 Focus. There is no procedure in the book for replacing the power steering hoses, only the pump. The thermostat procedure is woefully inadequate in pictures and written direction. One of the main issues with the book is it tries to cover too many different years and configurations of the vehicle. It may be ok as a basic guide for general maintenance, but it is not useful for more in depth repairs (in my opinion).Anything after that is very scant. So I gave up and looked up on youtube and found if i just remove the grill and about 6 tabs i can change both lights easily without unhooking any other components and have total access. The thing that gripes me most about this book are diagrams I need for reference so I know exactly what and where I'm pulling screws or bolts out. The fact that many of the pictures in the diagrams are not close to what I have bothers me. The fact I had to look on youtube to find a solution because the car had bolts, and clip ons that the book doesn't mention made it virtually impossible to finish using the book alone is a major turn off.Pages and pages about mundane stuff like how to check the oil and tread depth, but when it comes time to remove something, all you get is 'remove the thing.' Most of the time the picture is either of such poor quality that you can't see what you're looking for, or there straight up isn't a picture for the thing you're trying to do. I have a 09 SES coupe and I can't find any info on bleeding the clutch, or the air filter.But it doesn't contain any information on the 2011 model year's Duratec engine. This was a dealbreaker for me, and while it provides correct info for 80 of what I need, there are too many things it doesn't cover like proper PCV valve location among other things.The descriptions are good and easy to understand. Some things it is lacking are more wiring diagrams, fuse box layouts. That's what I've noticed so far. The noise can typically be reduced by slightly depressing the clutch pedal. ACTION: The noise may be caused by a dual mass flywheel issue, worn splines on the clutch disk, or by a transaxle misalignment issue. To service, refer to the following Service Procedure. SERVICE PROCEDURE Check transaxle fluid level. If low, fill to correct level and retest for noise. If noise is still present proceed to Step 2. Remove the transaxle. Inspect the transaxle slave cylinder assembly. Inspect for leaks. Inspect the clutch slave cylinder and bearing as follows: Rotate the outer race while applying pressure. Inspect for roughness. Inspect for any surface scoring or burrs that may impede the sliding motion of the clutch release hub and bearing. Any scoring or burrs should be polished off with a fine grade of emery paper. Replace the slave cylinder as necessary. Inspect the transaxle input shaft. Inspect input shaft for damage, spline wear, burrs or rough surfaces. Any scoring or burrs should be polished off with a fine grade of emery paper. Replace transaxle as necessary. Remove the clutch pressure plate and clutch disk. Refer to the appropriate model year Workshop Manual Section 308-01C; Clutch - MT285 Transaxle; Removal and Installation; Clutch Disk and Pressure Plate.Check the clutch pressure plate surface for scoring, cracks or discoloration. Minor scratches or discoloration should be removed with a fine emery cloth. Check the diaphragm spring fingers for discoloration, scoring, bent or broken segments and spring ends that are higher or lower than the rest. Replace the pressure plate as required. Inspect the dual mass flywheel surface with flywheel installed on engine for scoring, cracks or discoloration. Inspect the dual mass flywheel with flywheel installed on engine for proper internal spring operation as follows: Install flywheel holding tool 303-103 (T74P-6375-A). Using a long screwdriver or bar firmly rotate the secondary mass clockwise. If the secondary mass does not rotate, replace the dual mass flywheel. Using a long screwdriver or bar firmly rotate the secondary mass counter clockwise. If the secondary mass does not rotate, replace the dual mass flywheel. Using a long screwdriver or bar rotate the flywheel back and forth until the friction control plate is centered between the secondary mass notches (Figure 3). Inspect the plate for damage or melting. If damaged, replace the dual mass flywheel. Inspect the dual mass flywheel with flywheel installed on engine for proper secondary mass rotational free play as follows: Verify that the friction control plate is centered between the secondary mass notches. The rotational freeplay check can not be performed if the plate is off center or damaged (Figure 3). Place a reference mark on the secondary mass of the flywheel (Figure 4). Rotate the secondary mass of the flywheel clockwise using light hand pressure until it stops. Use only sufficient force to take up the freeplay in the secondary mass. Place a reference mark on the primary mass of the flywheel aligned with the mark on the secondary mass (Figure 5). Rotate the secondary mass of the flywheel counter clockwise using light hand pressure until it stops. Use only sufficient force to take up the freeplay in the secondary mass. Place a second reference mark on the primary mass of the flywheel aligned with the mark on the secondary mass (Figure 6). Measure the distance between the two marks on the primary mass of the flywheel. Remove the dual mass flywheel. Place the dual mass flywheel on a flat level surface. Blocks may have to be placed under the flywheel to prevent movement. Inspect the dual mass flywheel for hub bushing wear as follows: Place a dial indicator onto the secondary mass of the flywheel. Using light hand pressure press downward onto the opposite side of the secondary mass until it stops. Use only sufficient force to take up the freeplay in the secondary mass. Repeat Substep 10-c-2 in three places around the flywheel.Inspect the rear face of the engine block. Ensure that the two required engine dowel pins are installed and are not damaged. If the dowel pins are missing or damaged replace as required. Inspect the corresponding dowel pinholes on the transmission. Ensure the holes are not elongated or damaged. Inspect the upper and lower plates for damage or warping. Replace as needed. Inspect the crankshaft flange and flywheel, for residual thread locking compound or rust. Clean as necessary (Figure 10). Install dual mass flywheel.Install the pressure plate and disc. Refer to the appropriate model year Workshop Manual Section 308-01C; Clutch - MT285 Transaxle; Removal and Installation; Clutch Disk and Pressure Plate. Lesson learned, don't buy a slow fast car, because people who owned it before you have tried to make it go fast, and it just couldn't.I do wish that the fog Stock suspension is tight and very neutral with predictable lift off over steer. The engine has a wide power band and sounds amazing above 5k RPM all the way to the 7250 red line. The interior is surprisingly nice with the well bolstered leather seats, fantastic sound system, and well sorted 6sp.Other then that, its super fast with evertthing stoke except for the air filter. The RECARO Racing buckets seats that come with it are super sweet, and the back seat is really comfortable for long trips. I've made it from SoCal to Reno Nv in 6hrs!!! Overall I love my car.That's wy I still own it.Just really fun to driveSo I'll break it down. Performance- Its not the fastest thing in a straight line by any means, but it will out run most every naturally aspirated 4-cylinder (save for the new Civic Si and RSX Type-S). But this car wasn't built to go fast in a straight line. The SVT Focus handles like nothing else I've ever driven. Even though it is a front-wheel-drive car, oversteer can be induced, and has more grip than the motor can really take advantage of. Build Quality- My SVT as the European Appearance Package, which means heated leather Recaros for the front passengers, and incredibly comfortable leather seats for the rear passengers. However, some of the build materials show that this is still and economy based car, as there are several hard-plastic areas and the fit and finish is slightly below par. There are few squeaks (primarily where the front seats contact the center console), but nothing you will hear if you've got the radio even slightly turned on. Appearance- I've received nothing but complements on the appearance of the car. Love it or hate it, the SVT Focus has some aggressive styling, though it can look odd from some angles, and the interior is well-designed despite some poor material choice. Cost of Ownership- Bought it with 65k on the odometer, and have put 6k on it. Thus far, I've had to make no repairs, though the passenger front strut is on its last leg (a side-effect of hard driving). Despite only taking premium fuel, the SVT is hardly hard on the wallet at the pump. I've gotten as high as 32mpg, and regularly see 300 miles to a tank of gas-- which is quite a bit for a 12 gallon tank. Fun Factor- I'll put it this way, I've NEVER driven anything as entertaining to drive. The steering is communicative, the brake are easily to modulate, and the suspension and chassis tuning just beg to be tossed around in a canyon. And for the 4-banger, this car has a fantastic exhaust note once you cross 3000 rpm. Not only is it a blast to drive hard, but the suspension is comfortable for every day driving. Do not use excess force! This is not TDC. The timing bar will not fit Turn the engine two complete revolutions clockwise Use a wrench to remove the stud With the stopper in place rotate the engine clockwise until it no longer turns. The crankshaft will be at exactly TDC. Never rotate the engine counterclockwise Always restrain engine movement with a proper tools The timing bar should slide into place with relative ease. We are now at TDC As the belt ages it stretches, causing slight variations in the timing. Using a proper sized open end wrench, you can rotate the cams slightly to get the bar into place The intake sprocket bolt is hidden inside of the VCT gear, and the cover must be removed to expose it. While holding the camshaft with a proper open end wrench, loosen but do not remove this bolt. This will allow the camshaft sprocket to rotate. Do not use the bar to prevent rotation. Use a proper sized open end wrench. Unscrew it to expose the E18 bolt holding the exhaust camshaft sprocket in place with a proper open end wrench. Be prepared with a small container to catch it in. Clean all of the oil from the gear and ensure none gets on your crankshaft sprocket Doing so could result in permanent engine damage If it slides right in, your engine is 100 in time. Congratulations! Go ahead and try this check again in any multiple of 2 complete rotations just to be triple sure. If you are, follow the procedure to reloosen the camshaft sprockets, adjust them, and retorque them. Repeat this process until you can rotate the engine two complete revolutions, hit the stopper, and have the bar slide right in. Take the time to follow each step again as precisely as possible. See the next step for more information on this. The VCT system must be in positive dead stop for the engine to be 100 in time. The intake camshaft should not move. If so, you are at positive dead stop. When you reach the limit of motion, you are at positive dead stop. Take it for a test drive, briefly running the engine all the way through to its highest RPM If you see poor performance or other DTCs, it may be that you did not carefully verify your engine was in time. A couple of thoughts on improvements. 1) The factory workshop manual recommends loosening the water pump bolts prior to removing the serpentine belt, which eliminates the need for the strap wrench as recommended here. 2) When reassembling I waited to install the motor mount until after I had installed the serpentine belt. You get better access to that very tight area without the mount in the way. Otherwise this is a great addition to the factory manual which I had access to for this repair.
