Gabber 5.0 out of 5 stars You may need to change the energy saving defaults. I did not want to purchase a much more expensive thermostat offered by my contractor, so I bought this one. The new thermostat has a few new energy saving settings that did not exist in the original 8-years old thermostat. For example, the new thermostat does not allow setting the cooling temperature to be lower than 72 Fahrenheit out of the box. Please remember to save the new settings before exiting the installer setup.http://dejede.com/userfiles/file/first-years-dreams-in-sight-mobile-manual.xml The manual's number is 68-0280-01.OK, here are the things I love: 7-day programming. My wife has off on Fridays, so we have 4 unique programs: 1. Mon-Thu 2. Fri 3. Sat 4. Sun I guess if everyone in the home worked Mon-Fri, then you could do fine with 3 unique programs instead of 4. Main point is, the 5-2 models don't really cut it for weekends IMHO. It is super easy to create unique programs on this model and only takes a few minutes for me to program all 4 of ours from scratch. I also love the CIRCulate fan feature. I have never seen that on any of the basic residential models sold at places like Home Depot. It really helps keep the air equalized around the home and from getting stagnant. It is my default setting, and I rarely change it to AUTO or ON. The HOLD settings are great for temporary tweaks for comfort, or when you are on vacation. Very easy and clear to use. That sounds great for spring and fall in Minnesota, so I definitely plan on setting it up on the new one. Honeywell support has been great every time I call them with questions. There is one thing I really dislike about the default settings; however, Honeywell support walked me through the process to change it: when you program the thermostat to transition from SLEEP to WAKE, it tries to predict the time it takes to reach that temperature and fires early. For example, our SLEEP temp is 61. That is too cold for showering, so I establish a WAKE temp a few degrees higher, and set it to trigger at 6:00am, same time as my alarm clock. I don't really need it to be that much warmer in the bathroom, because it is very small. As long as heat is coming out of the vent, I am fine. Well, this thermostat, by default, tries to estimate how long it will take for it to attain your WAKE temperature setting, and then it turns itself on ahead of time predictively. When it is really cold out, the furnace can fire 30 minutes or more ahead of your set wake time. This cooks me out of my covers in bed and I hate that.http://fscl.ru/content/eagle-intellimap-500c-manual There is a setting in the weird service menus to turn that off. If you are like me, it is worth the time to call Honeywell support and change it!When it gets too cold out for the heat pump to extract heat - the heat strips kick in (I live in FL). This thermostat is compatible with heat pumps but has no wiring connection for emergency heat - therefore it's useless to me. Now I realize that I have to buy the next unit up in the series to be compatibly with heat strips. I tried to determine this before I ordered it but everything I read said that any thermostat made to work with a heat pump will support emergency heat. I know now that was false info. I guess for all the users that rated this thermostat so highly - they must not be using it with a heat pump - or else they have some other sort of alternate heating for their home as heat pumps cannot generate heat when it gets extremely cold out. Anyway - I hope this review helps someone who may be tempted to order this unit as I was. Seems like a solid unit. Just can't use it with auxillary heat.I won't do a review of the Hunter model on here but compare the two. Pros: 1.Easy to install. My system has 4 wires and the existing thermostat mounting holes lined up with this Honeywell plate so it took 10 seconds to mount the plate and about 3 minutes to hook up wires and install thermostat. Worked great right out of the box. 2. Programmed the Thermostat while watching the news. You have to actually listen for it at close range. You could hear the old Hunter unit click on and off on the other side of the house and it was mentioned several times that it woke up visitors sleeping on the far side of the house where the thermostat is located. You can't hear the Honeywell unit. I would notice the Hunter unit would turn on and parts of the house got cold and other parts near the unit were warmer. The temp sensor wasn't very 'smart'. This Honeywell clicks on and adjusts house temp alot quicker and it seems the 'average' temp in the house is more consistent. UPDATE: Nov 21,2015 after 3 years 6 months this thermostat still works fabulous!!! Not one issue. Touch screen still works great. Maybe Amazon needs to place it on sale. But it has been a very reliable unit.In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. If you are considering electric floor heating for an addition to your home, such as a sunroom where you have no other source of heat, WarmlyYours offers an innovative online tool which calculates approximate heat loss. This tool can help you to determine if a WarmlyYours’ floor heating system will provide your desired comfort temperature throughout the year. You can access the Heat Loss Calculator or you can call us at (800) 875-5285 and a Customer Service Representative will make the calculation for you. This is why the best time to install floor heating is during a remodel or as a part of a new construction, when a floor is being installed anyways. If you're interested in alternative radiant heating methods, check out our Radiant Panels, which are wall-mounted and use infrared technology to provide supplemental heating. This is true with any floor warming system. When installed on top of a concrete slab without insulation, it is generally accepted that a radiant floor heating system will take the chill away from the floor and provide a small amount of warmth. Adding insulation on top of the slab and beneath any floor heating system will allow a greater percentage of the heat generated to transfer to the flooring surface. This results in greater efficiency and therefore faster warm up times, higher expected surface temperatures and lower energy usage. The floor will have the capacity to warm to a comfortable temperature, and in some cases can be employed as the primary heat source for that room. The recommended types of insulation are natural cork, insulated tile backer boards and insulated underlayment, such as CeraZorb synthetic cork. Typically, using hot water instead of electricity will result in lower operational costs but significantly higher investment and maintenance costs. This usually means that hydronic heating systems are reserved for new construction projects (where it is easier to incorporate the boilers and pumps needed to operate the system) and electric systems are often used for remodeling projects in bathrooms, kitchens, etc. To learn more about the differences between these systems, check out this post. Use this interactive tool to design your room online and receive an instant quotation with product recommendations, rough-in and installation kits, cost of your control, etc. Planning your floor heating project is made easy when using our Instant Quote Tool. Send us your floor plan or fax it to (800) 408-1100 and we will send you a quote, product recommendation and a free custom installation plan for your project. If more heat needs to be added to the room, you can experiment with setting the floor heating thermostat to higher temperatures. Electric floor heating is more energy efficient, less prone to spreading dust and allergens, and easier to control from room to room. Air-based heating systems can be used for both heating and cooling and can be a good way to control air quality in the home with regular maintenance. Forced Air. When turned on, the heating cable emits heat upward through the flooring which is then radiated throughout the room, heating all solid surfaces. This will give you a basis of comparison for future readings. Take a second reading once you have positioned the system to match your custom installation plan.
