It is a simple cable tester and it works great to verify a digital tone. This tester is used in my tool bag. It can do more than two other tools that I have combined. This Fluke item is worth the cost. The extra features really help in the real word.I need RJ11 and RJ45. The packaging had one staple and looked like it was brand new. I thought about returning it or exchanging it but the only option I get is a return. Should I of just bought a new one. Will I regret this after return period is over. The product itself gets 5 starts because it’s a great product. The product I owe gets 2.5 stars because I’m not convinced it even works properly. I’m new to these but I get the idea how they work. When I plug in a RJ11 or 45 cable into the toner and take the probe by it, it won’t make any noises. It seems like the probe needs to be setup digital and toner on analog to make a connection. It’s just wacky. I just want a new one sent to me and I’ll gladly send my old one back. As of now and ordering from Amazon Warehouse, i would of just ratcheted ordered new instead of saving the few bucks.The video shows you being able to detect the cable by just walking by the room that it comes out in. With cat5, I can get a signal about 1 foot away from the cable, and with cat6, I have to be TOUCHING the wire. This is not the analog toner I'm speaking of, that feature seems to work well. However the digital toner seems to be advertised to be able to pick up a signal from at least several feet. My mileage is much less. Makes a good portion of this unit's functionality useless. I will probably try to return this for another and if the replacement does the same, I will definitely be returning for a refund. Plugged the toner into cat6 keystone jack with included wire. 2. Turned both toner and probe to the image of the probe with the radio waves coming out (the larger waves on the probe) 3.
