The gun is made partly of rubber so it absorbs shocks from falls. Very durable and sturdy gun. The gun is very accurate when it reads temperatures C and F with high ranges. In summary: Water resistant, dust resistant, durable drop proof 3 meters, very accurate. Great gun worth the price tag, best in the IR temp gun industry!Awesome! It has two laser spots and the measuring area is between them (not exclusively but thereabouts). I have used this to check my oven temp (spot on) and also the temperature of my car's engine compared to the OBD reading (to check the sender is working correctly). The user guide is a little difficult to follow as it's entirely pictures and barely any explanatory writing. Below is some EMS info that i found by trawling the web as the EMS setting is not easily explained in the manual. EMS: The EMS setting on this device is not easy to understand initially. Essentially it is the ability of the surface to be measured by it's emissiveness of heat. Dull matt materials work better than shiny bright ones. If you need to measure a bright shiny material, you may need to attach something dull to it (like a piece of black tape) or decrease the emissiveness value on the thermometer.After researching similar items, I zoned in on this example. Made in Washington,USA and not a poorly made Chinese or Taiwanese imitations. The divice itself is of ergonomic deign, rubber coated and comfortable to hold in the hand. The display is easily read in all lighting conditions, thanks to its subtle blue backlight. The divice gives both accurate and consistent readings and has a duel laser allowing more accurate readings over distance. The ratio being 12:1, so for every foot you are off the target it will scan one inch. Ten foot, ten inches. You get the picture. It is extremely smart looking cute I will cost a lot less than the original Fluke case intended for the device. Another plus is the unit is IP 50 for water resistant and can clearly be seen by the stable around the battery compartmentTested on various surfaces and all of them give wrong readings. As an example it shows my arm temperature 33c, while my home thermometer shows 37c. Tested on warm kettle water - even the cheap unbranded contact thermometer shows 47c, whilst this one is 44c. Used various thermometers and it seems this one is out by at least 3c-4c. Totally unacceptable for the price paid. Also, it does not point laser dots to the surface like some other ones. Update 8 Jun 2016: I didn't get much assistance from Amazon customer service but I took it upon myself to contact the company who did the calibration. Their contact information was on the bar-code sticker attached to the handle of the thermometer. They were very helpful and with the information from the sticker, were able to retrieve a copy of the calibration certificate and supplemental report. I received a pdf copy of the documents by e-mail within a few hours - Many thanks to them for the speedy resolution of my problem.The previous one only had 2 months left of 1 year certification. Stay awayThe problem with this one is that while they claim that the range is -30C to 500C, the NIST calibration (which is why we bought it) only covers 30C to 450C, rendering it useless for evaluating refrigerated or room temperatures. Each thermometer was triggered for 5 seconds before taking the reading. I shielded my body heat from the thermometers. I took a reading every day, 2 times per day for 5 consecutive days. The results were always the same 1.2 degrees above the reference temperature of 75 degrees. The thing that was the most impressive to me is the fact that they both were calibrated and performed exactly the same. They were very solid - their readings did not fluctuate. Next, I walked around with them and simultaneously measured temperatures of various surfaces with varying temperature ranges. Both thermometers always agreed with each other giving exactly the same reading, right down to the tenth of a degree (note they increment in.2 as opposed to.1) Also impressive is the fact that I can shoot the same spot over and over again and receive the exact same reading. Most other IR thermometers do not have the stability that these do. It is important that a measurement device is stable and consistent, especially when doing differential comparisons of surfaces. I've used Raytek and some other brands for years but the Flukes beat all of the other ones I have tried. It was an interesting side-project testing their performance. If you were to place both temperature guns nearby a furnace or a Boeing-737 engine, I'd trust the Fluke temperature guns more than the cheaper Amprobe products. The Amprobe IR-750 does not have a duel laser. I like how this one has two lasers instead of one. The lower the number for accuracy, the better the instrument. This makes a difference. Plus, the Fluke gun is very durable. I've seen their drop tests on Youtube. So, what are its flaws. The AA battery doesn't last long in it. To be fair, though, none of the batteries in these temperature guns last long. You'd be lucky to get even 20 hours out of some of them. Like all other expensive devices, be careful changing the batteries. Not to mention, when the battery gets very low in these temperature guns, the instrument might start to give more inaccurate readings. This is normal, just change the battery. Next, there's the manual. The manual could have been more thorough and specific to inform consumers how to navigate the instrument. Fluke needs to hire a few technical writers to improve their product manuals. If you choose not to find help on the Internet, it will possibly be a trial-and-error process. Other than that, this is potentially the best purchase. Although the 62 Plus is quite durable, I'd rather keep it in the carrying case than the shipping box itself. Ever since than I have needed devices to test network cables and the only gear I looked at was Fluke. In setting up my home automation this summer I was concerned that the temp readings from my thermostats were incorrect because my house has cold spots (so I found out). In order to verify if I had cold spots I purchased a Fluke 62 Max and it verified the cold spots and I was able to adjust the house to comfortable levels as needed based on the Fluke readings. Fluke gear has never let me down and it is always my first go-to in looking for measuring equipment. In November I will use the type 62 max to make sure turkey in the deep fryer is perfect since my house thermostats have been adjusted thanks once again to Fluke.Please try again later. I won't go through all the features as those are well covered by other reviews, but I feel more information on emissivity and the rotating lasers is needed. Emissivity: All IR thermometers depend on the emissivity of the surface they are measuring. The 62 MAX Plus comes set to 0.95, but has a selectable range of from 0.1 to 1. An EMS setting of 0.95 is a good value for brick, chipboard, fired clay, concrete, formica, glass, PVC, most paints, tar, rubber, sand, soil, masking tape, floor tile, and water in all forms except snow. Snow and most types of bare wood have an EMS closer to 0.85. A surprise is gravel with an EMS of only 0.28. What that means is that unless you select an EMS of about 0.28 the 62 MAX Plus will give you an incorrect temperature reading of a gravel surface. A lot of times you don't care about the actual temperature so much as how it has changed over time or relative to other spot. Dual lasers rotate to pinpoint the edges of the measurement area: The laser beams spread out in the same 12 to 1 ratio as the optical resolution of the IR sensor, which makes it easy to see the size of the spot you are measuring. Holding the 62 MAX Plus with the readout horizontal, the two laser spots describe a vertical line (if you connected them) at the unit out to about 2 inches. As you move further away the spots appear to rotate counter-clockwise to describe a horizontal line at about 24 inches. Moving further away the spots continue to rotate until they describe a line from 2 to 8 o'clock at 10 feet and beyond. The heat, as it turns out, was coming from the floor--the entire floor. I went downstairs and checked my neighbor's door and it was almost 80 degrees. Well, found the culprit. It isn't meant for it but I have used it to check the temperature inside my mouth to see if I had a fever. I don't recommend that and you should never point this at people or pets. You can also pinpoint places where a room is either gaining or losing heat. This can be very helpful as you attempt to raise or lower the temperature. This list goes on and on. One thing you discover after using this meter for a while is that your hand is a pretty poor judge of temperature. Sure, your hand can tell if something is 20 degrees hotter than something else but you hand is really poor at telling if one thing is, for example, 3 degrees hotter than another (and 3 degrees can matter in a room if it's over a large surface area).Please try again later.
