Sekonic L-358 FLASH MASTER Light Meter The L-358 features a retractable incident Lumisphere for standard or cosine corrected light readings, provides both hemispherical and narrow angle readings. Measurements can be taken in either incident or flash metering modes with accurate and convenient flash and ambient analyzing. In all electronic flash measurements, an analyzing feature simultaneously evaluates both flash and ambient light and displays the values in three ways: a) combined readings of flash and ambient, b) percentage of flash in the total exposure or c) simultaneous display of flash, ambient and combined readings on the analog scale. Selecting settings is quick and easy with the built-in Jog wheel and cine shutter speeds up to 360 frames per second makes the L-358 a versatile tool in the most demanding lighting scenario. Optional spot finders extend the versatility of the meter with a choice of 1, 5 or 10 degree measuring angles with a viewable parallax-free viewfinder. It is also operates with earlier transmitter-compatible Sekonic meters. Note:To learn more about our cookies policy, please read our Privacy Statement. When using the Mini Light Receptor or a Booster (optional accessories) the LCD will be illuminated after measuring, regardless of the ambient light level. If batteries are removed with the power ON, measurements and settings in memory can no longer be recalled. If after replacing the battery, or during measurements, strange screens (displays that have not been set) appear in the LCD, or nothing happens, no matter what button is pushed, remove the battery and wait at least ten seconds and then replace the battery. The last measurement is held until the lock is released, even if the Jog wheel t is accidentally moved. The ready to measure mode will continue for approximately 90 seconds.http://www.kiu.pl/userfiles/fast-1704n-manual.xml During this time, fire the flash and make a measurement. The repeated flash pops can be accumulated until the desired aperture is displayed. The cumulative number is infinite.Under such conditions, it is recommended that you use the meter in the Cordless flash mode or wireless flash radio triggering mode, and keep the Synchro terminal cap in place. Each time this is repeated, the accumulated value for the aperture and the number of cumulative flashes is displayed. Number of cumulative flashes Measured f stop Percentage of flash in total. Turn the Jog wheel to set the channel setting. At the same time, channel numbers (1 to 16 and 17 to 32) appear on the F stop area. When the channel number is 17 to 32, sub- channel (A, b, c and d) settings are displayed on the T indicator. For othe setting of measuremends see page 16 of “Cord flash”. Confirm that the meter and the radio receiver are set to the same channel number. An exposure meter, a camera, and a flash can all be connected at the same time. Since the single-lens reflex method is employed, it is possible to measure as aimed without parallax. The batteries might break down, and cause injury or pollute the environment. Dual ISO buttons allow for quick exposure factoring when working with two differing film speeds, film and Polaroids, or other situations where comparison readings are desired. As with all Sekonic meters, the Sekonic L-358 Flash Master includes a 3-year warranty and the best customer support you're ever likely to find. The simple solution to creative light control with optional wireless triggering Directional light is powerful. It guides the viewer, creates mood, and adds dimension, depth, and texture. If you want to create a signature style that elevates your photography to the next level, the mastery of off-camera lighting should be your next goal. Lighting ratios, ambient balance, and final exposure must be set confidently. Knowledge and use of the tools of photography assure that the outcome is the intended one. And for images like this one, the Sekonic L-358is the professional photographer’s meter of choice. They are, in fact, the simplest and most direct way to determine exposure. And because incident meters measure the light that falls on your subject, they provide camera settings that render the image exactly the way it appears. Blacks are black. Grays are gray. Whites are white. Retracting the Sekonic L-358’s Lumisphere enables you to quickly judge the brightness of multiple light sources for fast, accurate adjustment of lighting ratios. The L-358 displays exposure both digitally and on an analog scale for easy readout. Custom functions enable adjusting the shutter speed and aperture readout for full-, half-, and third-stop increments to mirror the setting of your camera. You can change exposure settings after reading and the meter will automatically compensate to maintain the proper exposure. And the extended sensitivity range, EV -2 to 22.9 for ISO 100, allows taking exposure measurements in virtually any kind of light. The multi-flash function enables accumulating an unlimited amount of flash pops for times when a single flash pop cannot achieve the proper exposure or the amount of depth of field needed for the subject. Optional Radio Flash Triggering Simply plug the optional Sekonic RT-32 Transmitter Module into the battery compartment and wirelessly trigger flash units up to 100 feet away. Analyzing Function The L-358 is especially useful for on-location shooting to lighten shadows or reduce background detail. That’s because it measures ambient and flash simultaneously and automatically indicates the percentage of flash in the total exposure. You can easily adjust the ambient flash mix by turning the Jog Wheel. The digital display indicates the camera settings and an analog display shows the relationship between ambient and flash and the total exposure. Sekonic L-358 Functions All controls are at your finger tips. Familiar Jog Wheel operation and large LCD readout make settings fast and easy. Contrast Function Setting up lighting ratios or checking the evenness of a background or scene is push-button simple. Then press the measuring button to display the brightness difference between the standard and new reading. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. Instead, our system considers things like how recent a review is and if the reviewer bought the item on Amazon. It also analyzes reviews to verify trustworthiness. Please try again later. Graf von Foto 4.0 out of 5 stars The readout is in 0.1 stop increments displayed in several different ways by the user's selection. There is a memory for multiple measurements and various options for using the stored values. There are three flash measuring modes, with sub-options for multiple measurements. (1) Corded, i.e. plug in a cord, press the button, fire the flash, and measure the light. (2) Cordless, i.e. the flash is fired by external means, and the meter recognizes the flash, resets the previous measurement, and displays the new measurement. (3) Wireless, like cordless, but this requires an optional, additional wireless module. I have owned numerous light meters over the years, and this is at the top of the list. It is a professional instrument in the true sense of the word, not the polluted sense that is often misused for the popular press. There are some quirks that are a little bothersome: 1. The model having a gray body has lettering in light-gray (not even white) and at first glance the lettering (i.e. the labels of the buttons) is not even visible, because the contrast is so low. Tilting the instrument a bit changes the reflectivity and white lettering jumps out, because of differences in reflectivity. If you use the meter enough, the labels are no longer necessary, but in the beginning the low contrast is annoying. 2. Although the instrument can do a fine job of measuring either incident or reflected light, changing mode requires some mechanical disassembly. The incident light dome in disconnected by a bayonet and the reflected optical element is inserted and snapped into place. These precision pieces move, and the moving parts are have a thin grease for lubrication. The separate pieces need to be carried along with meter, asking to get lost or dirty. The lesson is not to make this change of mode in the field where dust or dirt may enter. Stated differently, the meter changes mode only reluctantly outside of a studio. This was my first experience with indoor flash lighting, so after setting up the two units with a backdrop, I attempted to figure out the correct exposure by trial and error because I thought I wouldn't have time to learn the light meter that night. It took me about 1 minute to figure out how to change the modes. You would think it's a little pricey but I say it's worth every penny. I can't wait to take it outdoors!I have wondered for some time whether it was worthwhile buying a light meter considering how advanced in-camera meters have become. However, in my first use of the meter I realized that it was worth every cent. The exposures in my photographs have never been more accurate. I have recently faced some pretty tricky lighting situations but getting the right exposure was a breeze using the Sekonic L358.I absolutely enjoy its easy to use functions. This meter has all the modes I need for my purposes, aperture and shutter speed. I am not a professional photographer, I am hobbyist who takes his photography seriously. The instructions are straight forward and as long as you have a basic understanding of the exposure triangle. ISO, aperture and shutter speed, you will be using this light meter in about 15 minutes once you quickly pour over the settings. This light meter allows you to read reflected light, good for landscape photography or reflective one dimensional subjects as well as ambient light aka available light, used for 3 dimensional subjects like buildings, cars and people. Corded flash and wireless flash metering options are also available. Inside the battery compartment in the back, you will see 4 dipswitches. The meter is very easy to use and versatile in its applications of ambient and flash light sources. The only caveat that I can think of is if you do not get the internal remote transmitter at time of purchase, then make sure if you do order a one that it is the proper type for the meter you have. There are a couple of different models for use in various countries. Make sure you get the version meter and transmitter required in your country. I would recommend this meter to any serious photographer whether amateur or pro. Camera internal exposure meters are good and getting better but can still be fooled by the environment they are in. An incident meter such as the Sekonic L-358 takes a much more accurate reading of the light falling on the subject.I don't know of a professional photographer that uses a light meter who DOESN'T use a Sekonic. This model sits at the higher end of the specification range with only one model sitting above it in the Sekonic range (although technically there are 3 variants of the L-758). I had previously bought an L-358 through a reseller on Amazon but through the 'Fulfilled By Amazon' scheme. The importance of this will shortly become apparent. There is one important thing to remember when when buying this light meter (and the L-758 above it). That is, they are able to trigger flashes through an additional module (sold separately) which is Pocket Wizard compatible. HOWEVER, Pocket Wizards operate on different frequencies in different parts of the World. The module (RT-32) that sits inside this meter can also be bought in a number of variants depending on region (RT-32CE fro Europe including the UK and RT-32FCC for the US), although more recently they have produced a module that is compatible with all regions (the RT-32N). HOWEVER (again) if you put this universal module in say an American version of the L-358 or L-758, it will transmit American Pocket Wizard frequency signals and vice versa for a UK meter. So what, you may ask. However and wherever you intend to trigger strobes via Pocket Wizards, the meter and the Pocket Wizards attached to the strobes need to be from the same region (as does the RT-32 module, unless you get the universal RT-32N). The last version of this meter I bought through the reseller here on Amazon, was an American one and despite having the universal RT-32N module I couldn't for the life of me figure why it wouldn't trigger my strobes. Having had the item refunded, my latest version was bought direct from Amazon and was a European (incl UK) 'CE' variant and everything now works fine. I thought it was more useful to review this pitfall rather than the unit itself, which has an almost legendary status within the photographic community. The purchase ran smoothly and went according to Amazons usual high standard.Gives that edge on the coameras meter. Delivered a bit late but otherwise well packed and great service. Company offered a 10 reduction in price if I let them know when it arrived safely.Page 1 of 1 Start over Page 1 of 1 In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading.
