Install the c over by inserting the hing e into t he lip at th e rear of the bath. Angle the cover u p while pu shing d own to lo ck the hinge i n place under the stain less stee l tank lip. Rem ove the cover by lif ting the lid and pushin g the hi nge towa rds the bac k to re lease it from under the tank lip. Covers on the 2 li ter sha llow, 5 lite r, and 10 l iter m odel baths can also be installed and removed by slidin g the h inge into p lace under the rim and ta nk li ps fr om eithe r side. 3. Connect t he li ne cord to a suitabl e g rounde d electrical o utlet. Repositioning the control panel Note: This p rocedu re appl ies to 20 an d 28 liter units only. With 20 a nd 28 liter units, the c ontrol panel can be p ositioned on the si de or the f ront of the unit i n orde r to a chieve the be st use of availabl e bench space. To ch ange th e positio n of the c ontrol panel, f ollow thes e ste ps: 1. Turn of f the unit a nd disc onnec t fr om powe r sourc e. 2. Allow to c ool. 3. R emo v e t he r mo met e r a nd c li p. Re mo ve the cover. 4. Assum ing that the wa ter bath is em pty, turn it o ver on a protected surface. 5. Remove tw o screws re taining the c ontrol panel an d two scre ws retaining th e blank panel. Note: Do not disc onnec t interna l w iring or sensor s fr om c ontrol panel. 6. Remov e the bla nk pane l. 7. Caref ully m ove the c ontrol panel to the new location a nd reins tall. 8. Install the blank pa nel at t he ot her location. 9. Return unit to locatio n of use. 10.Re connect pow er, turn on a nd tes t unit. Filling the unit Follow these ste ps to fill the unit i n preparat ion for use: Note: If the bath has be en us ed pr ev iously, the tank shoul d be thoro ughly clea ned bef ore refilling. 1. Fill the w ater ba th with tap w ate r or oil so that the liquid le vel is appr oxim ately 1? inches (? inc h w ith 2 liter sha llow mode l) from the top of the tank whe n full antici pated lo ad is placed in bath. 2. If a ther mometer is used, use the clip provided to hold the the rmom eter to the side of the bat h. S lide the O-ring on t he therm ometer to positi on the t herm ometer to the pr oper depth. 3. When closin g the cover, p lace th e thermometer alo ng the fron t edge. A no tch along th e front of the co ver clears the therm ometer a nd clip with the co ver closed. 4. For optim um re sults, the sam e fluid lev el should be m ainta ined throug hout the operating peri od. 5. If us ing w ater, algi cide m ay be added t o reduce algae formatio n. Follo w the instructions s upplied w ith t he algic ide. Display During stand by s how s act ual tempe rature; during setups, s how s m enu m odes a nd value s being selected. Ala rm Lights to show that t he back up co ntroller is regulatin g the t emperature rath er than th e primary controller. Program Lig hts to show that unit is i n prog ram mode rather than run m ode; see menu b elow. Heat Lights to sho w when heat is being supplie d to the cham ber; cycl es on and of f a s heat is r eques ted by the control ler. Menu Allows you to se lect the m ode of operatio n. Each time you pres s the Me nu butto n, t he m ode changes i n thi s sequence. Set When in t he nor ma l mode of oper ation, allow s you to ch ange the t emperature setp oint. Decrease ( ? ) Afte r enter ing other tha n n orma l m ode, decr ease s the dis play ed va lue. Safety controller Sets th e Limit temperatur e above to the primary setpoint; shoul d be set at a higher tem peratur e than the se tpoint to g ive the sa fety, control in the event tha t the prim ary control fa ils. Note: The safe ty control is not as accurate a control as the dig ital control.T he unit w ill go thr ough a powe r-on se lf test tha t will tak e seve ral seconds. D uring this tim e the display will show the unit’s capacity in liters. 2. When the unit has com pleted its s elf -test, it will ma intain the bat h at t he last s etpoi nt tempe rature. The He at indicator will lig ht when the unit is apply ing heat to t he bath. This indicator w ill cycl e on and off during norm al operatio n. 3. When the displa y s hows normal ope ration afte r completing the self-te st, continue by setting the te mpe rature se tpoint and back up temperatu re. 4. If the disp lay shows any message after completing the self -test, do n ot use the u nit. Refer to the Tr oubles hooti ng sec tion to determ ine what is ca using the m essage to appear o n the display. If the de sired indic ator is lit, omit this proced ure. Press and hold the Set w hile sim ultaneously pressing th e Increase ( ? ) or Decrease ( ? ) button u ntil the displa y show s the de sired tem perature units, C f or Centig rade or F f or Fahrenhe it. 2. Relea se all c ontrols. Withi n a f ew se conds, t he display will return t o norm al oper ation. T he desired indic ator ( F or C) shoul d be lit to t he left of the display. Setting th e temperatu re setpoint Follow these st eps to se t the controller so that it mainta ins the desired tem perature: 1. Turn Safety controller knob fully clockw ise. 2. Press and hold the Se t button t o se e the current s etpoint. The Progra m ind ica tor lights to s how that t his is the se tpoint. If this set point is co rrect, there is no n eed to change the se tting. The dis play will return to norm al operation when the Set button is released, d isplaying th e actual temperatu re. 3. To cha nge the setpoi nt, pr ess a nd hol d the Set button w hile sim ultaneously pressing the Increase ( ? ) o r Decrease ( ? ) button. The displ ay shows the temperatu re setpoi nt as you chan ge it. Release t he Set button w hen y ou ha ve a chiev ed the desired setting. The dis play will return to norm al opera tion w ithin a f ew seconds, displ aying the actual temperature. 4. To che ck the setpoint without affe cting norma l operation, press the Set button a t any time. To change th e setpo int, repeat step 3 abo ve. 5. Set the Safet y temperature accord ing to the pr ocedure be low. Setting th e Saf ety temperature Follow these steps to se t the w ater bath’s Safe ty temperat ure controller. 1. Set the Tem per ature s et point 2 to 5 degrees high er than desired temperatu re. Wait until bath tem perature stabilize s as show n by dis play ed ac tual tem peratur e. 2. Turn bac kup co ntrolle r kno b counterc lockw ise until A lar m light j ust com es on. Turn the k nob cl ock wise slightly until the lig ht goes off. 3. Set the T em perat ure set point 5 de grees higher an d verify the Sa fety is con trollin g 2 to 5 de gre es abov e des ired s et point. 4. Set the T em perat ure contr ol to de sire d temperatu re, allo w the temperatur e to drift down, a nd ve rify the a larm lig ht does not com e on. If the light does com e on, g o back to ste p 1 setting t he Saf ety hig her. Calibrating the unit To check th e accuracy o f the uni t, clip a certified therm ometer, such a s Fisher Cat. No. 15-166A (not supplie d with w ate r bath), t o the side of the bat h as described i n the insta llation i nstructions. A fte r allowing suffic ient time f or the tem perature to stabili ze, compare th e thermometer read ing to the actua l tem perature display ed on the unit. If the display ed tem pera ture doe s not a gree with the therm ometer, you c an calibra te the c ontroller as follow s: 1. No te the difference b etween t he displ ayed temperatu re and the t hermometer. For example: I f the d isplayed temp erature is 37 and the therm omete r reads 36, the dif f erence is -1, me aning tha t the dis play should re ad 1 low er than it n ow show s. 2. Press Menu butt on until disp lay shows CAL. 3. Press and hold the Se t button w hile simultaneou sly pressing the In crease ( ? ) or Decrease ( ? ) button to se t the de si red temperatu re offset. Release t he Se t button when you ha ve a chieve d the desi red se tting. The display will return t o norm al oper ation w ithin a few seconds, displa ying the ac tual tem per ature. It is re comm ended tha t the bath be clea ned at lea st on a m ont hly basis f or m odera te or continu ous us e applic ati ons. Fo llow these steps to empty and clea n the un it afte r using it: 1. Turn of f pow er, unplug t he unit, and all ow to cool com pletely. 2. If y ou have a water ba th of 2 or 5 lite r capa city, pour the liquid from the unit i nto an appr opriate disposal conta ine r. 3. If y ou have any othe r siz e w ater ba th, allow the unit to c ool a nd use the ha nd pum p to e m pty the unit int o an a ppropria te dis posa l contai ner. 4. Clean the i nside of the wa ter bath with m ild deterg ent (such a s Joy dishw ashing deterg ent) an d wa r m wa ter. Do not scr ub any surf ace w i th steel w ool. (Steel wool le aves small me tal particles be hind t hat will rust, cau sing the pan to look ru sty). In instances where a h eavy coating of residue h as accumulated inside th e tank or where there is evid ence th at corrosio n is beginni ng, the use of a stai nless s teel c leane r (such a s 3M Sta inle ss Stee l Clea ner and Polish) is rec ommende d. 5. Rin se and wipe all tank surfaces with cl ean wat er. 6. Unit is now re ady for nex t use. 3 Note; If Alarm Light comes on during normal cycli ng, turn ba ckup controll er kno b slig hly cloc kwi se and mon itor. (If bac kup a nd dig ita l co ntrols ove rlap, the bath w ill have a w ider temperat ure co n- trol band.) Also, a dual chamber unit is available with 5 and 10 liter chambers, with independent controls for each. All units are available to operate from either 120 or 230 volts. The controls on the front panel of this water bath allow setting of the precise temperature needed. The buttons are recessed in order to avoid accidental contact. This water bath comes with dual thermostats, which protect against the risk of thermal runaway. This ensures that the elements do not burn out even in case of the bath running dry. The see-through acrylic gable cover of the bath features unique fins which protect the hands by keeping them away from hot vapors. If the user prefers, the bath can be fitted with the optionally available stainless-steel gable covers. The exterior of the device is corrosion resistant.
