Indicator lights on the face of the unit display the presence of smoke or carbon monoxide, while an 85-decibel siren provides a clear, loud warning upon detection. Photoelectric Sensor Warns of Smoldering Fires The First Alert SCO7CN alarm comes equipped with a photoelectric sensor to provide the earliest possible warning of fire. The sensor is optimized to detect larger smoke particles produced by smoldering fires, such as those caused by unextinguished cigarettes. It also distinguishes between real threats and smoke and vapor produced during showering, cooking, and other everyday activities, helping minimize the number of false alarms. Electrochemical Sensor Monitors CO Levels The alarm also features an advanced electrochemical CO sensor that detects carbon monoxide leaks from a variety of sources, such as faulty fuel-burning appliances, blocked chimneys, and cars left running in the garage. The detector stores CO readings and verbally communicates the highest level of CO detected, allowing you to discern patterns that indicate potential leaks from an appliance, a generator, or other carbon monoxide source. Battery Powered and Easy to Operate Powered by two AA batteries, this alarm is easy to set up and doesn’t require any wiring. The unit features a pivoting, easy-to-access battery drawer that allows you to replace the batteries without dismounting the alarm. And thanks to the end-of-life timer, you can know exactly when it is time to replace the alarm. In the six decades since, we have continued to create innovative products, from the first residential smoke alarm to the first battery operated carbon monoxide alarm. By leading the fire safety category through reliability, quality and innovation, we follow in the footsteps of our founders and make the world a safer place - one home, one family, one life at a time. The PC900V is unique because it features (2) alarm systems that work independently to detect both evidence of fire and carbon monoxide (CO) through the electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor and patented smoke entry system that allows a direct smoke path to the photoelectric sensor to detect regular and slow, smoldering fires. The combination of the smoke and CO (carbon monoxide) sensor and First Alert's Nuisance Free Technology will reduce false alarms that result from cooking and shower steam. Studies have shown that children respond quicker to a voice alerting them to danger rather than a beeping horn. The voice and location alert feature ensures residents are aware of the smoke or CO danger and provides the room location of where it was detected so you can plan your best escape route. Installation is simple with the versatile wall and ceiling mount and the easy slide in mounting bracket. First Alert Maximum Protection Alarms are the newest tech creation to provide a modern safety solution in the fire safety industry. The First Alert PC900V Combination Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm comes with a 10 year limited warranty that protects against defects in material and workmanship.https://brandnewhomes.co/new-construction-homes/al/drainage-design-manual-maricopa-county-hydraulicsThis battery-operated unit includes a voice alarm that tells you the location of dangerous smoke or carbon monoxide in your home. Where does carbon monoxide come from. Two-in-One Alarm System Protects Your Family The SC07CN is unique because it features two alarm systems that work independently to detect both evidence of fire and carbon monoxide (CO). Easily programmable, this device features separate audible and visible signals that indicate dangerous levels of smoke or CO. Together, these audible and visible signals let you know precisely where the danger is, so you can plan the safest possible escape route. This extra level of protection is something a standard alarm simply can't provide. Powered by two 'AA' batteries (included), this alarm uses an electrochemical carbon monoxide sensor--the most accurate CO sensor available. It also uses photoelectric sensing technology, which provides optimal protection from smoldering fires and reduces false alarms like those caused by cooking smoke and shower steam. The SC07CN even stores CO readings and verbally communicates the highest level of CO detected, so you can easily discern patterns that indicate it's time to check your appliances or other combustible items for CO leaks. For convenience, most household remote controls are compatible with this system, meaning you can quickly test or silence the alarm. Additionally, an alarm mute button silences unnecessary alarms and allows you to test alarm function. There's also a low-battery warning that indicates waning power--a low-battery mute quiets the low-battery signal for up to eight hours. Finally, an end-of-life alarm that tells you when it's time to replace the unit, and a side-access drawer makes for easy battery changes. This alarm comes with a five-year warranty. Carbon Monoxide: The Leading Cause of Accidental Deaths in the U.S. Carbon monoxide, an invisible, odorless gas, is the leading cause of accidental poisoning deaths in America, yet many people don't know they are suffering from CO poisoning until it's too late. Because you can't see, taste, or smell it, CO can kill you before you even know it's there. Likewise, exposure to low levels over time can make you ill. The Consumer Product Safety Commission recommends that every home have at least one carbon monoxide alarm with an audible warning signal--like the SC07CN--installed near sleeping areas. An alarm like the SC07CN can detect the CO you can't see, smell, or taste before it causes any physical harm to you or your family. Smoke Alarms Offer the Best Chance of Escaping Deadly Fires Fire is a deadly threat to every household; it can strike anywhere, any time. The frightening truth is that in 2005, there were nearly 381,000 home fires in the U.S., resulting in over 16,000 casualties. Because of the very real threat of fire, it is vital that every household uses tools for fire protection. Smoke alarms like the SC07CN are the easiest, most cost-effective way to keep your family safe from fire. The more smoke alarms you have installed in your home, the more your safety increases. What's in the Box Combination carbon-monoxide and smoke alarm, two 'AA' batteries, and user's manual. Since symptoms of CO poisoning are like the flu, you might not even know you're in danger at first. That's why a carbon monoxide alarm is an excellent way to protect your family. It can detect the CO you can't see, smell or taste in the air. One convenient alarm helps protect against two deadly household threats. Includes a voice alarm with location, when programmed, voice tells you location of unit if smoke or carbon monoxide is detected.Size: 1 Pack Click here to make a request to customer service. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average. This morning the smoke alarm went off and there wasn't any smoke in the house. The CO alarm also goes off periodically with a reading of zeros CO.Now, I'm hoping I can get all of the batteries replaced quickly before the other nine of these scare the bejeezus out of me in the middle of the night. What a crummy design. I wish I could send them all back and get something without such a ridiculous flaw.Smoke and CO sensing. Mute button. Loud alarm and clear voice notifications (Unless you are on drugs this thing will wake you up). Notifications tell you type and location of the danger. Unit is good for 7 years after the printed date on its back. Unit chirps when batteries are low. Batteries can be replaced easily (from a side sliding compartment, no need to unmount). Cons: It’s very sensitive (If you burn a toast it may beep). Final thoughts: Please replace batteries twice a year. Many people remind themselves to change their detector’s batteries by letting it coincide with daylight saving time. So when you change time please change batteries too. This detector is easy to install and does its job very well. As I mentioned it is very sensitive to smoke but I consider that to be a BIG plus. I have one detector in each bedroom and one in the kitchen. I highly recommend this unit.WRONG, ONLY the activated alarm announces it's location. Even today, I cannot understand-comprehend why I need an alarm which is going off to tell me it's location.I contacted First Alert per instructions to take advantage of the 7 year warranty. They told me they didn't have that one in stock and sent me a replacement of “lesser” quality. Further you can replace the batteries by sliding the side battery compartment out on the SCO7. On the replacement you have to remove the unit from the wall. Warranty does say they may replace with similar product. That means you are being cheated out of the product you purchased because they are conveniently out of that model any time you submit for a replacement. Very poor service and reputation in my opinion. In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. This requirement went into effect for any production beginning on August 1, 2009. This information is stated on the original packaging, label on the alarm and the manuals. Recent breakthroughs in CO sensor technology and alarm design improvements allow most BRK CO alarms and combination smoke and CO alarms to a have a 10-year alarm life, a 10-year CO sensor life, and a 10-year warranty. Many also have batteries that last for 10 years. The end of life timer built into the alarm is a simple counter that begins working once the unit is activated either by plugging it in, hardwiring or inserting the battery. Then after approximately 120 months of operation (or other timing as coded in the alarm which may be 60 or 72 months) the unit will begin to sound 5 chirps. See the individual CO product on the BRK website and click on the ”sounds” tab to hear this alert. This silence feature can temporarily quiet the End of Life warning “chirp” for up to 2 days. The horn will chirp, acknowledging that the End of Life feature has been activated. After approximately 2 days, the End of Life “chirp” will resume. After approximately 2-3 weeks the End of Life warning cannot be silenced Distributed by BRK Brands, Inc., Aurora, Illinois. Yes, that's well beyond the recommended every 10 year replacement interval. Because the detectors were hardwired to one-another, the prospect of replacing them all meant it'd be far easier if they were all compatible with the existing wiring harness. I quickly realized that the proprietary connectors on each old Firex unit was no made. That meant I had a problem. While I had hoped to resolve this matter with a quick trip to Home Depot or Lowe's, I instead faced a long online search for a solution. I didn't really want to open up each junction box, rewiring for each new, also proprietary unit. Even worse, I didn't want to add new physical wiring to handle the rooms that never had detectors, but should have. So the hunt was on for a system that met my requirements, including: The closest thing out there was the First Alert ONELINK series of products. While First Alert doesn't make any ONELINK ionization models, those can be more prone to false alarms, due to increased sensitivity. Not ideal, but not a deal-breaker for me. Those combo units were in hallways, near the kitchen, and about 25 feet from my basement's gas furnace. There was only one wireless system that fit my requirements in 2010, and even today in 2013, it still seems to be the only contender. While I wish there was more competition, I have no regrets with the decision I made. Buying two-pack versions will certainly save you some money. And thinkingn back to the day I did the initial configuration and installation, I do wish had had put my home-brew ear protection on first! And a video (below) that'll give you a very good look, with the straight-forward initial setup: Well, the voices can be a bit confusing, since they're not synchronized throughout the house. But that's not a big problem though, listen and watch First Alert's demonstration here ( 1m 50s ): But that family-unfriendly scenario can be entirely avoided by just remembering to replace the batteries regularly, AND replacing all the batteries in all units at that same time. I've now set a personal calendar entry to sound my smartphone every 2 years, on a reccuring basis. As first discussed in this Smarthome forum Feb 2013 thread, there's a new device that'll bridge my ONELINK system with my existing Insteon Hub, the center of my growing home automation system. It's called the Insteon 2982-222 SmokeBridge, seen pictured at right. Why do I care? Whenever the ONELINK system is triggered, I'll be able to configure an alert to be sent my entire family's smartphones. Especially reassuring when none of us are home. Sure sounds appealing to me.Following all of safety and usage advice by the manufacturer, First Alert, is highly recommended. See also the First Alert FAQ here. Here's the video, including the unboxing, configuration, and testing, with real fire and smoke! It'll give you some idea of how noisy your house will be, when you go to change the batteries, ideally on all units, all at once, wearing hearing protection like my geeky setup. I also includes some tips about how to make it a bit easier, by using a screw driver to make popping the AA batteries out quite easy. Nest is jumping into the same market, with release of this subscription free add-on expected by year end. Likely to be more costly. Report: Smart Thermostat Maker Nest Building Smoke Detector by Stephanie Mlot Sep 25 2013 Nest Labs To Open Up Its Learning Thermostat To Developers Today, at 4:12am this lovely Sunday, a warning about battery low in basement went off, sound something like this. Not an ideal time, but given the follow-up recurring chirps, rolling over and trying to fall asleep again was not an option. I'm glad it told me the location, but I wasn't 100 sure what it said. This is exactly the sort of reason you'll want to set off an annual calendar reminder to yourself, to replace them all when nobody is home, before something like this happens to your domestic bliss. Guess where I found them. In a less than idea. That now-empty detector is prominent in my house, and I left it with it's battery drawer sticking out. And I realize the First Alert system has no clue what time of day it is, an unfortunate shortcoming that couldn't be more apparent to me today. Not a big deal, and easily avoided, through a regular annual battery replacement regimen, assisted with an annual recurring calendar reminder I just configured, see screenshot of my iCloud calendar entry. Sure enough, here's what it says: To my surprise, received immediate helpful service. This is where my super handy Amazon Order history revealed that I had purchases these units in April of 2010, with a date of manufacture listed on the back, 2010 Feb 04. Yep, warranty is up. If any die before the 10 years is up, I know who to call to ask for free replacement. Turns out the darn Insteon iOS app had somehow logged off, likely after the last upgrade. Oops! At least it was easy to fix, but it highlights the importance of regular testing. The Smoke Bridge unit's LED was solid green, but I went ahead and unplugged it anyway, for 15 seconds. Plugged it back in, tada, running the Insteon iOS app again gives me green happiness. But it does seem to be working. I simply followed along with this Insteon documentation: Turns out they were there under my main Insteon login's email account, but I wanted to push them other accounts that are more in my face on my phone. By monitoring for the presence of CO at all levels, the Onelink Environment Monitor provides protection for those most vulnerable and peace of mind for those who care for them.” Through the free Onelink Home App, the micro-designed device delivers convenient access to information related to indoor atmospheric conditions and notifies users in the event of emerging CO levels or emergency conditions. When emergency levels of CO are detected, you are notified via the app’s push notification, the light flashes bright red and the device emits a loud, 85 decibel alarm, alerting that the area should be evacuated. A multi-colored LED ring on the monitor informs users at a glance regarding the status of their home’s temperature. The ring changes colors as temperatures shift. A white light glows if the room is at the programmed temperature, blue indicates the room is too cool and amber signifies it is too warm. The ring is dimmable and the brightness can be adjusted based on preference, serving as a night light. Using the Onelink Home App, users can monitor a room’s environment, as well as test and silence the monitor. In addition, Siri voice commands allow users to check on their home’s temperature and inquire as to whether any changes have been detected. The unique monitor is compatible with a growing number of HomeKit-enabled devices, making things easy for consumers. Since the monitor is Apple HomeKit-enabled, data is always encrypted and privacy is built-in, allowing users to feel secure while benefiting from the convenience of a connected home. The Onelink Safe will be available soon. For 50 years, BRK Brands, Inc. BRK Brands, Inc. products are found in more than 30 countries worldwide. For more information, visit, or.
