Review energy efficiency information for set-top boxes, DVRs, and small network equipment below. This tool can help with both the installation and activation process. Activation takes approximately 20 minutes. The configuration used in testing is based on the test procedures defined in the “Voluntary Agreement for Ongoing Improvement to the Energy Efficiency of Small Network Equipment.” The energy consumption for each individual SNE device may vary. For the features, a number following the feature indicates the quantities of that interface. For example, a feature of Fast Eth LAN (4) indicates the device has four Fast Ethernet LAN ports. If there is no number listed, then the quantity for that feature is one (1). Follow the links below to get started. Have an HD Set Top Box (STB). Go to Page 5. Zeus 1.0 out of 5 stars I just received mine (I had ordered two of them). However, bad news is, bad advertising it seems, which is why I gave this a 3. I had believed I was ordering the advertised v4 but instead received v3.1 (for both remotes). Debating on returning. It was easy to program the v3.1 remotes, no problem there and they were both new. If it goes long, I'm returning the items and contacting amazon as well. If you're happy with your v3.1, keep them but, if you ordered one thing and received a lesser model - that is something else. Dropping to 2 stars for now.My problem is the remote is not as pictured. The remote advertised says Verizon on the bottom, says FiOS TV on top, and the button between channel and volume buttons is the FiOS TV button. The instructions for this remote are for a Frontier Set Top Box, so I'm not even sure this is supposed to be a replacement for FiOS boxes. It does work, but it's still just a clone of the original, which is what is advertised. I can't comment on the quality of the internals, but the remote overall weighs 4oz less than the original remote. May not seem like alot but it tells me that cheaper components are used. Overall, do not advertise an original remote if customers are receiving clone remotes!http://www.aricam.com.tr/webupload/evolution_61nx-manual.xmlThere also is no information sheet with it to know how to set it up. But, the reason it must go back is the product claims to be newest and is old. Truthfully, had they been honest about t being version 4, I may have bought it anyway. But, I don't like being lied to so this must go back.I don't like Verizon's tactics with subscribers or networks and I think they charge way too much per month, but the remotes are great. Oh, and having to purchase a remote is annoying too. I often have to use the Spectrum (Warner, Brighthouse) clunky remotes that make you go to the menu list when you want to go to the DVR and don't have the jump forward button--among other things. You can't just go to a channel in the guide and press the record button. Oh no, you have to press the record button and then it takes you to a screen that asks you if you are sure you want to record it and then you might be able to go back to the guide. The whole Spectrum (Warner, Brighthouse) system is old fashioned and user unfriendly. I did get the Version 5 remote, but then I ordered directly from Amazon where you usually get what you order. This one works on infra-red signalling, so it will work with all FIOS receivers. It will work with the newer FIOS receivers, although it doesn't do voice commands. Since my wife is a control freak, she likes to control the remote. I needed to buy this one so I could turn off some of the crap that she watches from my side of the room. All the buttons looked the same as my FIOS remote, so I kept it. But when I tried to program it, I managed to get everything working EXCEPT the volume, which, no matter what I do, refuses to control the STB and does not do a good job of controlling volume through the TV--it stays in the middle range of volume. Trying to lower the volume from middle range just shuts it off, and it won't even go to a louder volume. Unfortunately, I waited more than 30 days before trying to program this, so I guess I'm stuck with it.http://stroyzona.com.ua/companynews/download-cisa-review-manualThey were good, but needed better sound to make them perfect. I couldn't see myself paying that kind of money from a brand I didn't know, so I started looking for a cheaper model. I liked Anker's other Bluetooth earphones, so the Soundcore Liberty Lites were considered. With the good reviews and previous good ownership of Monoprice products the Monoprice IPX4s were looking good, too. While the buds are labeled L and R, they are both the same, and can be put into either ear. They come with 4 tips, and for the first time, I'm not using the largest ones. So if you have really big ear canals and find it hard to get tips that fit, you may find a good fit here. But this was a bare remote control and I decided to go back and look at my other options. I then found the same remote by the same company, but 10 cents cheaper and came packaged in the New Original Factory Seal with User Manual and 2 AA Batteries Included. So I cancelled the first and bought the second. I was as advertised and has been working for a week.In order to navigate out of this carousel please use your heading shortcut key to navigate to the next or previous heading. I’ve decided to really evaluate all the options, so that your decision is easier. This is because the local channels were simulcast in analog format. However this feature has been phased out and is no longer available. This is essentially the same channel set that was previously simulcast in analog. No set top box is required. A cable card will give you access to all subscribed channels, both standard definition and high definition, but does not include any interactive features such as the Interactive Media Guide, Video on Demand, Games, or Widgets. Cable card ready devices include many new TVs and TiVO equipment (more on that below). It can connect to any TV and tune into any subscribed channel that is not high definition, but it does not support interactive features such as the Interactive Media Guide, Video on Demand, Games, or Widgets.Verizon set top boxes are hybrid models manufactured by Motorola. They can access all subscribed channels through QAM and all interactive features through IP technology. IP is not a standard for digital cable devices. This is why normal cable cards cannot access the interactive features. It has a RF out, S-video out, and composite video out for connection to any television. It has stereo RCA outs along with digital audio coax out and digital audio optical out. When using the digital audio out, it is Dolby Digital capable. It can tune into all subscribed channels, SD and HD. It has the same connections as the 2500 plus a component video out, and an HDMI output for connection to an HDTV.It has two tuners that can view and record SD and HD. It can record up to two shows simultaneously while another recorded show is being viewed. It can pause and rewind live TV (up to 1 hour buffer). It has the same connections as the 7100, with the exception of the RF out. Particularly the 7216-2 does not have the RF out while the 7216-1 does. Both models are in circulation, so if you want the DVR set top box for an old non-hd television, you should request the 7216-1. The 7216 is the newer version.A regular QIP 7216 DVR can be upgraded at any time by calling Verizon or enabling Home Media DVR features through the Interactive Media Guide. Up to three recorded shows can be watched on different set top boxes simultaneously. All their set top boxes and cable cards are available for lease only. Some devices may appear on Ebay from time to time, but these will not stay activated for long. If you can live without the interactive features, then the cable card gives you a lot of equipment options. Of course you still have to lease the cable card from Verizon. Since its cheaper than any of the set top boxes, this may be a good option for many. A lot of people are already used to their beloved TiVO and would rather not switch to Verizon’s set top boxes. Even new customers can consider TiVO equipment for Fios. In this case you CAN purchase the equipment. When you add up the cost of the equipment, the TiVO subscription, and the cable card lease fee, TiVO actually ends up costing more than any of the set top boxes available from Verizon. Even still, many people prefer the TiVO interface and capabilities of the TiVO equipment. It’s important to note that there are two different types of cable cards in circulation. For a TiVO DVR to record two shows simultaneously (like the Fios DVR), it may need two cable cards. The original cable cards available from Verizon are S-Cards (single-stream), and two of this type of card is needed. Some areas are getting the new M-Cards (multi-stream).And you do need a piece of equipment for every TV that you want to watch more than just local channels on. Luckily this equipment provides access to a great service with tons of channels! I had been trying to scour the Verizon site for the fee structure on their devices, with no luck. I appreciate the help That works fine until I wantt to record different stations back to back while I’m away. I’m running Windows Vista 64 bit operating system which as TV viewing built into its Media Center software. Our whole goal of switching to FIOS was to eliminate the cable box because our LG tv has a build in dvr that is much nicer than verizon’s. Does anyone know if their cable cards now support hd? Just be sure to take into consideration the loss of interactive features such as the program guide. The cable is still hooked up the same way I had it with Cablevision. But it now runs to the Fios splitter. I just get “snow” on the tv, is that because the tv does not have a QAM. What is a QAM? I just want local channels. Is this a known problem with this model? I have a HUB in the basement that feeds CAT 5 and Coax to every room. I just don’t get why Verizon is forcing the rental of STB’s when that starts to make the ROI for switching from Cable erode away in rental fees per TV. I am getting only basic services and don’t like or want to upgrade. I’d like to dump the Motorola box but have discovered that it has a “M” card built into it. What if I loose the box and have a cable card installed in the tv. The program guide is available on line. Some people tell me to buy a TiVo Series 3 HDDVR. I know I can add more space to the TiVo and the guide and features will be far better. I don’t care about the VOD. I have a “Verizon” DVR Motorola 2708 given to me by a friend and have ordered the Fios service with one standard STB. I have 2 TVs, neither are HD. Is this the way it works. Does anyone know if I have to request the cablecard prior to install or is that something the technician will have? I am trying to find where to place the adhesive end of my IR blaster so I can operate my Replay TV with the FIOS box. I don’t mind getting the equipment for most of my TV’s, but I have one wall mounted in the bathroom, which is obviously no place to be putting equipment on the counter tops. The TV doesn’t have a slot for a cable card, and I don’t want to mount a shelf on the wall to hold a STB. I won’t be getting any premium channels, but probably FIOS TV Extreme HD. Just experienced the system changing which DVR is defined as the Media DVR. Where is that controlled and why would it change. Live support person ran remote diagnostics after saying we had too many DVR’s. Is it possible to use the output from the media center box to connect to my video card to watch previously recorded programs, or even live TV. If not, what hardware would I need to do this or should I simply pay Verizon some more mouthy each month to get the appropriate computer card. After the computer is enabled to receive output from the media center box (or card) what software could I use (Movie Maker, photo shop elements, etc.) to capture what I am watching. When I had TIVO it had an option to stream programs to a VCR anything like that FIOS? Thanks. The pc is equiped with dual tuner by aver Media see link: If I purchase this SIIG card slot. Link: If so how? I think in order to get FIOS into your PC you need a QAM tuner (your channels will be limited to the local channels and one or two others lilke the weather channel) and plug the fiber directly into the PC tuner. Or if you want to see all of the channels and interactive programing you will probably need a Verizon set top box and plug the SVIDEO out or HDMI out into your tuner. I could not see any picture from the bare FIOS cable or from my SD or HD set top boxes. However I could get ATSC signals over the air with the attached antenna. I soon realized I need a QAM laptop tuner which is the wintv 950. From reading this excellent post however. I now think I just need a laptop tuner with an RF, S video or HDMI input, that way I should be able to see the decoded signals from the settop box on my labtop and to record same. I’ll let you know if it works. The picture stability is better then TimeWarner Cable (less outages). Where does one being. Hence, its a struggle to pause a program to go to the kitchen or bathroom. We have only about 10 hours of recording. But remote set top boxes in the house can not initiate a recording on the DVR. Hence, my SlingBox or Sony LocationFree box are not usable unless the TV is on. The HDMI output of the Motorola set top box is very unreliable. The Internet programming capability also need to be reworked. I got one on 90 day trial, and they exchanged it when they couldn’t get it to work. Fourth call, the service rep came back and said “there’s a known issue with that box. Use the composite (3 wire) video.” I hope that a QIP 7100 will work with HDMI correctly. Can select and set up recordings via remote or onscreen Guide. Need to know if I can do the same thing with Verizon Motorola DCT-700 adapter. Anybody done this? The DCT-700 is exactly what you need since it un-encrypts all the channels, and can be controlled via IR. The only question is the ability of your IR blaster to send the right codes to control the DCT-700. Have a multi-room DVR in living room, works fine. However, will shortly replace one of my HD STB with a new TIVO Premier box in den. It uses cablecard, allowing me to eliminate the more expensive HD STB.These are restrictions imposed by the broadcasting companies. I have several wall mounted QAM tuner equipped HDTVs. I have no place to put a set top box. How do I get HD programming? Over the past month I have watched the value of the service just disappear before my eyes. You can’t even get the weather channel without a cable box. I am considering switching to FIOS but if I have to lease 10 cable boxes, why bother? I am also curious about what function the USB port on the front serves? Initially it worked as expected. Then I was unable to get a signal on the HDMI input (this TV has three of them). I attached coax between the STB and the TV and was able to get the signal. It was determined that the circuit board that the HDMI is on was bad and it was replaced. Tried to use coax again but it did not work this time. I moved the TV to the den where my other TV is on a DVR and still had the same problem. At this point I took the TV back to the JVC service center and after 3 or 4 days they called to inform me that they could not find a problem with it. Picked up the TV from the service center, brought it home, hooked it up, and it still gives me an error message that a signal can’t be found. And coax is not working either. So I went out and bought a new DVD player with HDMI and what do you know, it works as advertised, with no problems. That leads me to believe that the signal that I am getting from my FIOS is not strong enough for the JVC to detect it. My other TV is a more expensive set and most of the time it does not have an issue. Of late I do have to completely down the DVR to force it to reset so that I can use it but otherwise it seems to work find. It was very helpful. We’ve tried the obvious things, such as rebooting the modem and making sure the LIVE TV button is pressed. Thanks for any help you can provide. I can’t run a cable to the kitchen so i am looking for a wireless solution. I don’t want to be charged for another box or digital adapter. Does anyone have any ideas? I can’t find where the IR sensor is so that tivo can change channels. Any help would be appreicated. I have been moving it around with no luck. I need my tivo to work. Everything else is successful interms of activation. I am able to watch TV. I can’t run a cable to the kitchen so i am looking for a wireless solution. I don’t want to be charged for another box or digital adapter. I’m wondering if there is any way to feed video from a VHS player’s composite outut ports into the DVR and record it. I need to UPGRADE because the hard drive on the dvr was full and Verizon’s website said to use a Western Digital DVR Expander and they listed only two models that are compatible. On my old set top box I could see the time (of day), that would change to the channel while switching channels, then back to time of day. Or does this feature not exist. I sure do miss it! Verizon didn’t have this option when I went back. Does anyone know if they have these now or plan to offer them in the future? Anyway, here is my takeaway from installing the new boxes and I'm wondering what other people's thoughts on them are as well: I picked up and installed the new boxes this weekend, and so far, I love them. Installation was a breeze, new remotes worked with the box and TV instantly and the box took about 5 minutes to initialize. The picture is like night and day versus the old quantum boxes on my new 4k TV. Don't expect miracles, it's still 1080i and 720P broadcasts, but still, quite an improvement versus the quantum boxes. The menus are super quick, on demand works great and great quality on Showtime's Ray Donovan. Minor issues include no DVR button on the remote, which adds extra button presses (it would be nice if they added a quick way to access it, like double clicking the menu button or something), and the voice control is extremely hit or miss (sometimes it works, and sometimes saying the exact same thing will pull up a random search of words resembling what you just said). Additionally, on my quantum boxes, I was having a delay in sound between my box, the TV and the surround sound though ARC, but with the new box, its instantaneous, its fantastic. All in all, I'm super impressed, and well worth the switch. They just need to improve the voice control, and add a quicker way to access the DVR, and it would be almost perfect, in my opinion. 58 comments share save hide report 86 Upvoted This thread is archived New comments cannot be posted and votes cannot be cast Sort by best Honestly, I think if you have Alexa, that would be the way to go, but if you don't, its worth giving it a try, but again, its very hit and miss. You can say the word DVR twice, and one time, the DVR will come up, and try it again 5 minutes later, and you'll get a search for programs with things resembling the word DVR, so not exactly reliable yet. Although it does not upscale broadcasted content to 4K but it does upscale the UI and navigation menus. These boxes are fast. The voice remote is comfortable to hold and lights up when you pick it up. Voice prompt response is quite good but there's instances when it won't tune to specific channels. No DVR button but you can easily voice prompt it. Overall I totally recommend the upgrade but keep in mind it's obviously still early and they need to iron a few things out. I assume there will be a firmware update soon.No change in bill charges. Always wanted to know, not available in my area yet A chat rep said once it does that if would be totally free, no fee to upgrade, no fee increase on bill. The current one is old and slow, cutting the cord would get cheaper, faster, and a more modern Experience. So they better have something in development. However, when they waived it, they removed a monthly discount I had. I am currently working with them to resolve that situation (they gave me another discount, then the fee came back, and they are manually looking into removing it), so they don't even know what to do. If you get a rep that won't waive it, speak to another rep, and they might. Took me in total just around 6 hours on the phone to get someone to fix the issue. My box seems to not play nicely with my Samsung 4k TV as I lose signal for 5 or so seconds every 10 minutes. I haven't tried swapping hdmi cables yet but I didn't have this problem with the old box. I do love the speed of the menus. It has been a really positive experience so far. Takes a tiny bit out of the sting of our monthly bill. It is incredibly fast and looks great with my new television. Feels very modern for once. Also, I believe if you're on a grandfathered Multi-Room DVR package it is an unnecessary monthly cost increase. So did the old boxes. The picture is like night and day versus the old quantum boxes on my new 4k TV. I call BS. I'd like photographs. The signal is what it is, the box isn't going to make a big difference. Minor issues include no DVR button on the remote That's really annoying. Most of what my household watches is on a DVR. I'll take that button over voice control any day. First of all, the quantum boxes were notorious for not looking all that great on 4K, so when I bought a new 4K TV a month ago, I thought the picture would look awesome on my new OLED, but it was somewhat disappointing. One of the main reasons I jumped on these boxes is because it has a 4K resolution setting, and while everything still broadcasts in 720p or 1080i, the box definitely upscales to 4K. PQ is always subjective, but coming from a quantum box to this, there is a difference, 100. I don't have before and after pictures, but I could take a pic of my setup and post it, but without a form of comparison, its rather pointless. The lack of a DVR button is slightly annoying, but a) It's literally an extra button press which is an extra 2 seconds of time, and b) the old remotes still work with these boxes, so you can upgrade the boxes and keep the old remotes if you'd like. To your other points, upgrading the boxes is a matter of opinion. If I had a grandfathered DVR, I'd prob be itching to upgrade, but wouldn't, so I didn't lose the old DVR pricing. I didn't have that luxury as I got a fresh install of Fios at my new house last year and the deal I got gave me quantum boxes for a reduced price. It is the only STB option available in my area, and it is so new with few reviews. Currently I have Xfinity, but I want to switch to Fios because I miss the ability to flip and buffer between two live TV channels. About 5 years ago I was with Fios, and that DVR could do this. Can your new Fios TV One box do this. I am most hopeful the main box can buffer between two channels, but it would be nice if the smaller satellite boxes could as well. But you can pause channel 4, then go to channel 5, watch tv there, then go back to 4, and it'll still be paused. You can also record the stations you want to do that with, and do it that way (I believe you can record up to 6 at the same time). I'm going to have TV and gigabit internet with the new install.
