If you ever take your flashlight apart to clean it and you get the tailcap and the head reversed, your light won't come on. Some people also swap the ends so that the pocket clip is in the direction they want it. That causes the light not to work anymore. Below is the correct placement for the head and tailcap. Please pay attention to the direction the pocket clip is pointing. Chances are the problem is easy to fix. We'll give you a quick rundown of troubleshooting steps to take if your flashlight is in need of repair. Even if you're sure you put new, fresh batteries in your device, swap them out. You never know if it's a simple problem until you try a simple solution. If the problem persists, move on. Rubbing alcohol will clean any corrosion and will evaporate quickly. You should also clean any threading and add O-ring lube to your seals to ensure the light is assembled as intended. Below is a step-by-step video to clean an LED flashlight: To do this, remove the tail cap (if the light uses a tail switch.) and ensure the batteries are installed correctly. Next, place a metallic object like some tweezers or a screwdriver across the tail section so that it makes contact with both the flashlight and the battery. If the light turns on, you know the issue is with the switch. If it does not turn on, the issue is with the LED or the circuitry surrounding it. Inspect the switch and ensure there is nothing loose inside. If it does seem loose, use a tool to twist the retaining ring counter-clockwise. This will ensure everything is tightly in place. A whopping 257 lumens at max. This is much brighter than my previous Tk10 which topped out at 225 lumens. Similar to the TK10, the PD30 has two brightness modes which can be selected by turning the front bezel. Fully tight is turbo, slightly loosened is general. The “turbo” mode puts out a beam at 257 lumens, and “general” at 10 lumens (TK10 has a general mode at 60 lumens). However, unlike the TK10, the general mode can be stepped up by just softly pressing (not a click) the tail cap switch. First on, 10 lumens. Soft press and you bump up to 67 lumens, another soft press and you bump up to 124 lumens. One more and you activate an integrated S.O.S. signal. And yes, it’s actually S.O.S, not just a strobe. The turbo mode does have a high speed strobe which can be activated by a soft press after clicking on at turbo mode. All due to the XPG-Cree R5 bulb with an over 50,000 hour lifespan, this is an improvement from the previous iteration using the XR-E bulb. But I suppose it has its merits of disorienting a potential assailant, in case a 257 lumen flood lamp in their face doesn’t? I just worry the strobe would disorient me just as much as it would an attacker. I chose the PD30 for it’s 4.65 inch length because it protrudes an inch out of my hand while holding it Jason-style. That’s what I like to call it, I suppose other people would call it reverse grip. This is a finish much harder and wear resistant than other electrolyte based anodizing, and is used for coating pistons, gears, hinges, and blast shields. The multiple modes lets you find tune your brightness needs. Whether map reading at night or checking gear in a tent, shining out on the trail but not blinding yourself in the process, or going turbo to reach out and identify things that go bump in the night. It comes mounted with a pocket clip that has very good tension and looks to be pretty solid. The pocket clip is well placed and it rides well in the pocket. Although the grip ring and spacers aren’t totally necessary for an outdoor oriented light, but an orange tail-cap option should be a must have. It’s a little extra something to help you out should you drop it out there in the stink. Fortunately, Fenix offers a wide lineup of accessories for almost all of their flashlights. Beneath the bezel sits a toughened, AR coated glass lens similar to other Fenix products. A smooth reflector is used in the TK11 which provides a sharply focused beam with some artifacts. The emitter and reflector are perfectly aligned in my sample. The exterior of the head has 6 shallow scallops machined on it which serves well as an anti-roll feature. The hard anodizing on the head is pretty well done with consistent coloring. This is probably due to the thickness of the coating. Its purely cosmetic though, the surface still feels smooth. The threads on the head are smooth, clean and thicker than previous Fenix models. There's a band of diamond textured knurling about 3cm wide, and two flat surfaces machined on with the Fenix branding printed on it. The TK11 has great ergonomics, it feels really comfortable and secure in hand with a hefty mass. I did find the grip ring to be slightly uncomfortable when holding the TK11 in an overhand grip, and it's also a little small for comfortably holding in a cigar-style grip. The wall of the battery tube is very thick, I'm confident that it can handle rugged abuse. Its internal diameter is wide enough to accommodate protected 18650 cells easily. Threads on either ends of the battery tube are very well done, smooth and thick. Head and tail cap screw on very easily without any cross-threading or grinding, very nice. There are thick rubber o-rings which came generously lubricated. These serve are water seals, 2 at the front end and 1 at the rear end. The TK11 is advertised as meeting IPX-8 waterproof standards, although maximum submersion depth wasn't specified by the manufacturer. The threads at the rear end is coated as well so the light can be locked-out by loosening the tail cap. Type 3 anodized coating on its exterior surface is smooth and consistent throughout. At the rear end the tail cap has a deep 4-point scallop machined into it, one of the points has a hole for lanyard or key ring attachments. This design allows for easy switch activation while still allowing the light to tail stand on flat surfaces. The rubber switch cap has a checkered texture and feels quite thick. The switch module housed in the tail cap is a forward push button, allowing for momentary activation which I personally think is a must-have for tactical flashlights. The switch has a noticeably longer travel than other Fenix products which use reverse push buttons. Clicking on the switch provides good tactile feedback and audible click. Switching mechanism is responsive so signaling with the TK11 poses no problems. It throws significantly further than the TK10 which uses a textured reflector. Due to this, the beam area has some artifacts such as a dark ring right around the hotspot and a feint yellow ring too. Beam tint is a neutral white on General mode and shifts to a slightly cooler tint on Turbo mode. The circuit used in the TK11 is different that that used in the TK10 as it allows a 3.7V li-ion cell such as a 18650 to power the light up to full brightness instead of about 75 as the TK10 did. Regulation isn't as consistent as the TK10 when using 2x 16340 or CR123 cells, output seems to increase slightly as the cells run down. The TK11 struggles to maintain regulation with 18650 cells on Turbo mode. Runtime is good considering the variety of input voltages the TK11 accepts. Lygten har 9 lysstyrker, samt strobe, beacon og sos som alle v?lges med en ring. Lygten er med type 3 anodiseret, dvs.Lygten leveres i samme type ?ske som de fleste Fenix lygter, indholdet er ogsa som forventet: Handledsrem, 2xO-ringe, manual, garantikort og en lille brochure over nogle Fenix lygter. Desv?rre er der intet b?ltehylster med. Manualen lister alle lysstyrker og driftid, og forklare hvordan lygten betjenes og lidt mere. Et kig forfra viser en nydelig centreret Cree XR-E lysdiode i en OP ( O range P eel, appelsinskal) reflektor. Lygten har ogsa t?nder, heldigvis er de ikke sa skarpe som pa TA30. Lygten kan kun skilles af i to hoveddele, hovedet kan ikke tages af kroppen, men der et par andre dele som kan tages af. Et kig ind i kroppen viser at der er en fjeder i forenden af lygten, dette gor at lygten og batteri bedre taler stod og slag. Ringen (til at holde lygten i cigar greb) kan fjernes, der er dog ikke noget med til at d?kke for hullet efter den. Klipsen kan ogsa fjernes og kan evt.Lysstyrke indstilles pa ringen, som det kan ses pa billederne er der en hvid prik og nogle romertal til at vise hvad man har valgt. Der er nogle rigtig gode klik-stop pa ringen, sa den er let at stille i de rigtige positioner, ringen er lidt stram at dreje, men jeg kan dreje den med samme hand som jeg holder lygten med, men det kr?ver to fingere. Ringen har ingen endestop og kan derfor drejes hele vejen rundt, det gor det umuligt at v?lge en bestemt position, af ringen, i morke. Enden pa lygten er med en kontakt der t?nder ved et let tryk og laser nar den trykkes helt ned, dvs.Udformningen gor det ogsa muligt at stille lygten pa enden, sa den kan stille pa et bord og bruges til at lyse et rum op. Gevindet er anodiseret sa det er muligt at losne enden lidt, for at forhindre lygten i at t?nde ved et uheld. Gevindet pa enden er ikke kompatibelt med TA30 og TK serien, TA21 har et grovere gevind end de andre lygter. Det betyder sa at klemmekontakten til TK serien ikke kan bruges pa denne her lygte. Jeg syntes dette er en vellykket lygte fra Fenix, jeg har dog et par punker der kunne forbedres: jeg ville dog have foretrukket at ringen ikke kunne drejes helt rundt og at ringen var lidt lettere at dreje, men stadig med de samme gode klik-stop. En endnu lavere indstilling star ogsa pa min onskeseddel. Tekniske data Lygten er udstyret med et buck kredslob, hvilket betyder at lygten kan fungere med sp?ndinger fra 3.7 volt til over 6 volt med fuld lysstyrke, og er beregnet til 2xCR123 eller 1 styk 18650 LiIon batteri. Stromforbrug: 14.8mA, 42mA, 76mA, 121mA, 195mA, 324mA, 506mA, 665mA og 862mA. Disse v?rdier er malt med LiIon. Da batterisp?ndingen ligger t?t pa den nedre gr?nse for regulering, vil strommen forst stige lidt, nar sp?ndingen falder, for derefter at falde med sp?ndingen (Se n?ste kurve) Ovenstaende kurve viser stromforbug og lysstyrke ved forskellige sp?ndinger, nar lygten er indstillet pa max. lysstyrke. Den rode streg er strommen og den gronne er lyset. Som det kan ses sa har lygten stabilt lys ved alle sp?ndinger over 3.7 volt, men ved lavere sp?ndinger falder lysstyrken. Storrelse: diameter: mellem 25.5 og 38.2 mm, l?ngde 171 mm V?gt: 199 gram med CR123 batteri, 217 gram med AW 18650 LiIon. Lygten har en 1 Hz beacon, med 0.1 sekund lysglimt med lav lysstyrke, dvs. Sammenligning med andre lygter Jeg vil sammenligne TA21 med nogle andre lygter, bade Fenix og et par andre. Ovenstaende graf viser hvor meget lys lygterne sender ud. Alle 2xCR123 led lygterne er nogelunde lige kraftige, TK20 med AA er lidt svagere og 6P med glodelampe er v?sentlig svagere. M30 med en quad led er selvfolgelig meget kraftigere. Her har jeg vist (n?sten) alle styrker. TA21 har 9 styrker, jeg har kun medtaget hver anden her. Som det kan ses har TA21 masser af mellem niveauer, men TA30 og M30 gar n?sten lige sa lavt. I den sidste graf har jeg malt lux pa 2 meters afstand, det giver en god ide om hvilken lygte der kan lyse l?ngst. Yes No I have it in my glove compartment in the car. What a brilliant light. The controls are easy along with the recharging. I also keep 2 CR 123 (3 volt) batteries for back up just in case. It will get very warm after an extended time but for walking the dog at night it stay bright and does not get so warm that it steps down. Just what I was looking for and in a small form factor. First impression was: this must not be turbo, sure enough it was. I went inside and got my trusty 10 year old Fenix TK-41 which boasts a maximum 800 lumens. Well my 800 lumen TK-41 was about 1.25 to 1.3 times brighter than my new fancy LD30 which was supposedly throwing “1600” lumens. No way. So I read the fine print. Well this light only throws 1600 lumens for the first 6-8 minutes, then kicks down to 800. Well that couldn’t be my issue, because I don’t seem to be even getting 800, plus I had a fresh battery. Otherwise, it’s a nice solid light, as I’d expect. Was this review helpful to you? Yes No A big head, such as TK41 equals higher candela which equals tighter beam. The TK41 is 55000 candela and the LD30 is around 10000. Additionally, the lens on the LD30 is less clear so it it’s somewhat of a diffuser. Was this review helpful to you?
