Use it monthly to measure air filter flow and volume.The wind speed can pick up almost anything, and the other readings seem to be pretty accurate. It's nice and compact for carrying around also. The biggest problem about it is that it takes a little time to get used to and remember how to change the settings on it. (Whatever you do, don't throw the instructions away.) Otherwise it's a handy tool!When it turns off it wipes the max. I was trying to use it to find the max wind speed over a 10-20 min period, guess I will need to find something else.This is easy and quick to set up and read.It comes in a nice case and looks professional. The cord is not coiled, so its a bit awkward. Once you wiggle the cord and set the unit down and DON'T move it, it seems to work fine. But as soon as you pick it up the cord looses signal.Well packaged and wrapped, The unit has a nice clear display and the back light really inhance's the display. The useful feature is having the vane on a cable, I have used other units with a integrated vane which can be problematic if the the grill or whatever you are measuring is above you which makes reading the display awkward. The average faclillity is another useful feature as I have had to take multiple readings write them down and work out the averages myself. This unit can do it for you but the results are only displayed for a short time, it would have been nice to have the ablity to hold the result on the screen. The build quality is not bad, a little plasticity but not bad. The back stand however is really flimsy and I can't see it holding upto continued use. I have a multimeter made by extech and the back stand is far more substantial even though it is plastic. The unit comes with a carry case with additional shoulder strap which is a nice touch. It is the basic nylon type of matirial which is not the best but certainly good enough. I haven't fully used the unit yet but first impressions are good. All in all not a bad unit for the price there are cheaper out there but I wanted a unit made by someone I have heard of, as I mentioned I have a multimeter and it has served me well and the company I work for is actually buying four of the multimeters.Very strong case mounted cover.Does what I need and more. However please note will not do mph and degrees c together. To do so, turn the battery compartment cover in a CLOCKWISE direction to remove it. The battery will be visible in the battery compartment, observe the position of the battery and replace the new one in the same position. Affix the battery compartment cover by turning it in a COUNTER-CLOCKWISE direction. Dispose of the lithium battery in accordance with local, state, or national waste disposal codes. Vane Impeller Replacement NOTE: The anemometer is very accurate at low and mid-range air speeds. Constant use at very high speeds may damage the impeller’s bearing and reduce over-all accuracy. 1. To replace the impeller, remove the set screw next to the impeller assembly (on the rear of the meter). Install the new impeller by inserting and twisting the new impeller assembly clockwise then tighten the set screw. The LCD will show temperature units ( o C or o F) and Air Velocity units. The Dual Display will illuminate. The top (larger) display indicates air speed and the lower display indicates temperature. To return to normal operation, release the key and restart the meter. Both the Air Velocity and Temperature indication will represent the highest readings measured since the meter was last powered. Average mode operation: Normally the meter averages readings every 2 seconds. Next, press the key again momentarily and the AVG icon will appear. The 13 second average mode is selected. Now press the key again and the number 5 will appear. Leave it there if an average of 5 seconds is desired. Press the key once more for a 10 second average mode. Press the key repeatedly until the WCI icon appears. The temperature display will now factor in the wind chill. AUTO POWER OFF: After approx. 20 mins, if meter keys are not touched, the meter automatically shuts down to preserve battery life. I work a lot on 480V circuits and was I probe about looking for voltage readings and then do something in between I can go back to what I was doing and it is still reading voltage but then NOTHING and it may not be clear it has done the auto-off trick. Why go OFF when it has been used recently. I can see auto-off working after about 15 minutes of NO USE, but when I am using the meter, or have used it in the last 5 minutes, then WTF. OK, so now I know to always use non-contact detectors, but these have been problematic for me as they keep failing on me so I learned to use a NCV detector which makes it clear it is working with a light that always glows a little or flashes a little. I have had to take this unit apart many times and clean it up with Deoxit as I work in a highly corrosive environment of ammonia gas and ammonia attacks copper. Yes, with a good cleaning this meter continues to work after being dropped multiple times and after going through about 8 sets of leads. I am not so sure I would recommend it due to its auto-off non-feature, but I do like its MANUAL ranging and FAST response times and easy to see screen even if the backlight doesn't last long enough. I purchased a much better Greenlee meter but it is so large and it autoranging is annoying and so I have stuck with this Extech for everyday work. If I am reading ohms, for example, I want to be very clear what the reading means. I want to know if it is 23.8 ohms or 23.8 K ohms and with manual selection I can be sure what range I am in without having to mess with buttons to display different ranges with other features I don't want right now. The Greenlee is far better for electronics work and refined accuracy, but for everyday work it sucks. So, a higher end meter may not really be what you want when considering a basic multimeter and how it will be used. I think this meter is a decent contender if one can manage the auto-off issue.However, the meter will power off while you are using it, and unlike other meters that power back on when you touch just about anything, this one requires you to rotate the range switch to off, then back to the chosen setting. The switch is pretty stiff, so most of the time, this requires two hands.
