I thought the most likely culprit was the Jalco jack itself. But I managed to replace that and it still didn't work, and I tested the one I took off and the terminals resistance show that it was working fine all along when I activated the pedal. The other interesting thing is I can still activate Sustain thru MIDI using another keyboard so the electronics at that point seem to work ok. So is anyone familiar with Ensoniqs around here. Does anyone know where to get a schematic. Has anyone seen a similar problem. I don't think there is any support available because E-mu has basically given the finger to Ensoniq's old customers after buying them. I have a KS32 FWIW. Otherwise it contains a poti, or something similar in functionality. If you follow the trace then you should be able to measure the voltage directly at the chip. If you cannot follow the trace visually then use a resistance meter with beeper. If the voltage is there and no functionality then the chip is defective. If the plug is directly soldered to the PCB then the fault is probably nearby. Then your best bet is to buy a MIDI pedal controller, plug your pedal into that then the controller into the piano. I'd bet that the pedel works by pulling this voltage to ground or not. Check the connections from the jack all the way back to the the resistor on the PCB. I do have some electronic experience. The jack that was removed shows 0 ohms when pedal pressed and a high impedance when not pressed so that's why I believe the jack was ok. The problem is there are not many visible traces on top or bottom, so without a schematic I can't really trace it at all. There is a 20pin header where this daughter board (that holds the jacks) connects to the main board where theoretically this sustain switch signal needs to cross. I am trying to use process of elimination to find the pin(s), by beeping out all the other pins to other MIDI and CV Pedal jacks pins and seeing what's left. Then I might try running a wire directly from the suspect header pin to the jack pin. But I really hate to guess and risk shorting something out. It would be SO much easier with a schematic. The ESQ1.bin look different to me. Im going to chop them up into single cycles. I mean you will anyway, it’s entirely up to you.Done a byte by byte comparison of the two 64KB rom data. They are completely identical. So (according to that site anyway) at the moment it looks like the ESQ1 waverom is just the first 64KB of a SQ80 waverom. I feel like chopping waves and trying to put together some nice renoise instruments. Nice funky bassline. The waveforms sound good with the chorus and multitap delay. I think these waveforms are better than the AKWF single cycles. I just bought an ESQ-1 yesterday and after playing it for an hour it died. Right when I got it home I opened it up (the keyboard is broken so I was just seeing if it was because a lose wire or something). After I closed the hood and put the screws on I played it for about an hour. I finally made a patch that I decided I wanted to save. I cannot do the soft reset because it only shows System Error on the screen. The next thing I will try is replacing the battery. If any one has had this happen before please let me know how, if their is a way, to fix this.
