It's for my vacation home and my neighbor said why pay for internet when I'm only here a few months of the year. So I have this unit pointed at his house. I get a great signal and I'm logged into his wifi. But for some reason I cannot get to a webpage. I've tried different settings and nothing seems to work. Do I need to use WDS mode. Any ideas would be great. It could be something strange with his setup. In many cases you must use WDS when you use a bridge. It depends on the bridge device. In simple bridge mode only one mac address can use the connection. In addition the bridge must at least translate this address to its mac address because the far end expects the mac to match the mac address used for the encryption. If you are attempting mulitple devices behind the bridge you have to use WDS since that is the hack used to get past mulitple mac addresses. The router must also support WDS.some routers need special configuration since it is considered a security issue. This will solve the WDS issues since all traffic will now come from a single IP and single mac address. His router is 10.0.01 and gives me an ip of 10.0.0.91. Subnet of 255.0.0.0. DNS of 75.75.75.75 and 75.75.75.76. I tried putting in static ips on the engenius but it didn’t work. The only device that will be connected is the camera system. My concern is when I try the neighbors, he's not using an Asus router. He's using the Comcast one they gave him. If so then how much? Weaver 5.0 out of 5 stars The features all work well, and are a breeze to set up. All you need is a little knowledge of the acronym's used for the routing world and you are good to go. I am a novice and needed to call in a friend to tell me what the acronyms stood for. After a 30 min. schooling in routing, I was able to set 2 up for a bridge and the other for an access point. They are professional grade access points. Just not very user friendly to set up, without some previous knowledge. My current set-up has the bridge of about 250 yards using the directional antennas. Two are configured as client routers: one at masthead using the 8db omni that came with the unit and the other mounted at the cockpit and using the panel antenna that's built in. In some situations the masthead was so tall that the tree canopy killed the wifi whereas the cockpit had line of sight below the canopy. Sometimes we needed the gain of the panel antenna and since it is in the cockpit it's easy to aim it at the wifi source. I've not found a convenient way to toggle the access point in the bilge between the two client routers other than plugging and unplugging cables. The masthead uses the supplied 5 db external omni and the access point uses the internal antenna. Rather than using the 24 volt injectors that came with the devices, I injected 12 volts by cutting off the power supply tips (they are 5.5 mm OD, 2.1 mm ID, type M) and wiring them to the ship's power, which is sufficient for runs of about 50 feet. Since the access point is close to the bilge I put it in a waterproof container along with the two injectors. An ethernet cable runs from the container inside the mast to the client router. Configuring the masthead device as a client router (firmware 1.2.4) rather than as a client bridge avoids a problem in which the remote network assigns your PC an IP address in a subnet different than the masthead device's address and you lose the ability to log in to the EOC-1650. (Instead the client router's DHCP assigns your PC an address in its own subnet and the client router gets its WAN address from the remote network's DHCP. With the client router connected to the marina's access point, we have wifi throughout the cabin with excellent signal strength. Without the EOC-1650's I'd be sitting in the cockpit squinting in the sunlight and swatting mosquitoes while I tried to connect to a weak signal. I used a 15db omni antenna connected via a 3 foot pigtail and a 75 foot cat5 ethernet cable. The EOC1650 was at the masthead on a halyard for weeks at a time in all weather and on the cockpit rail the rest of the time. It still works. Pros: Reliable performance under demanding conditions. I connected to distant access points when others in the anchorages had no luck. The built in power over ethernet is handy since it lets the water sensitive parts like the power cube live below deck. No water damage to unit despite rain and spray. New firmware version 1.2.0 has new functionality and seems stable. Cons: Connector for external antenna spun off its nut and broke because I suspended the EOC1650 from its antenna rather than attaching it to the mast. Unit is weatherproof rather than waterproof. Power supply for Poe is small and fits sideways on a powerstrip so it takes up ony 1 plug. Web interface was easy to understand and has extensive configuration settings, like preferred BSID which allows selecting an access point by MAC when there are several with the same SSID. Stable -- at least with several hours of use -- and does a good job of clinging to the marina's network in Baltimore's inner harbor, which has Port Networks stepping on all the channels with strong signals. Only a few cons: User guide is behind the most recent firmware, so some settings are not explained. No built in help in the user interface, so the user guide is the only source of info. I have never had to reset or otherwise pay any attention to this device. In fact, the only reason I am now writing the review is that when I replaced the cabinet that housed the HTPC and TV, I noticed the EOC-1650 which I had forgotten completely about - clearly the type of performance I like. Just bought another one the other day to expand my wireless network at home, so that my father who lives two blocks away can tap into my network, thus get free internet.There is about 800' of grassy fields and a tree line between it and the wireless router located in my friend's house. Works flawlessly even in rain.It's setup to reboot once a week automatically and it has been problem free from day 1. Make sure your network settings are 100 identical (WPA encryption mode, etc.) and this AP will blend right in to your network. Steps to a pain-free setup: 1. Router is 192.168.0.1 2. I will be buying a 2nd and 3rd one to improve coverage in the rest of the houseWent from a 1mbs iffy connection to a solid 54mbs connection and I am only getting an orange light on th signal strength due to the one at the house set as the AP being suction cupped to a window and the one set as the bridge setup inside. I do have the one at the shop hooked to my TP Link high gain directional antenna, which helped but I should get an even better signal once I mount both unit's outside on masts where they can see each other clearly. Will be buying a 3rd unit once I move from the lake house to the main house later this year though I might go for one of the more powerful units as that house is an additional 4 or 5 hundred feet from the shop.Wlan lights on side do not work with 1.3.1 firmware when set to Access Point Mode, atleast not on mine. No easy way to isolate AP from LAN without also losing internet. Documentation is horribly lacking.The lights worked well with dd-wrt. You can reflash from dd-wrt to original firmware with some hair loss and a lot of googleing. Having to pay money for dd-wrt before you have a chance to figure it all out is a solid bust. Not worth the money or the time to use it. Over heating this thing shuts it down fast. If you live in Alaska and this thing is going to be outside knock yourself out. Spend the extra 20 bucks and buy the EOC2611p.It works great out of the box, with the factory settings for giving away internet to a modestly sized area. But, there are some caveats for other applications.It has neither diversity nor mimo, so you need a large collinear or other physically large size antenna, because, otherwise, the allegedly impressive range is stopped at the first obstacle, and once again you get disconnect.I'm using it in an RV park, it's not even pointed in the right direction, and I'm covering the whole park just about (1000ft?).This unit broadcasts four SSID's.
