How to Save Money on Your Heating Bill This Winter What Are BTUs.Heats my 1000 sq ft off grid cabin very well. 5 stars! It quickly brings our basement area up to a comfortable temp. It is easy to start and, with a remote thermostat, easy to control. The best installation would be under an eave. The heating chamber rusted through.Suggest having a spare on hand. We are excited about our new easy to use fireplace Very easy to setup and operate. Very happy with purchase. There is a lot of smoke when if first fires up so be aware that it is normal. If you read the instructions and manual it will state this.I could not be happier with it. We have replaced ONE thurma couple in all the years with NO other problems. No worries about heat durning power outages. It is number 1 on my list of best buys ever. You can not go wrong with an empire gas stove. We were somewhat desperate due to being in the middle of a cold snap. While preparing the cabin to rent, we discovered the vent free gas fireplace, was emitting carbon monoxide at dangerous levels.http://nililaw.com/images/99-xr400-manual.pdf We looked into gas wall furnaces, and found the efireplacestore.com. The salesman we talked to was VERY knowledgeable about MANY types of heating sources. He really helped us find just the right size, type to suit our needs. We were able to get a natural gas console wall heater perfectly suited for the cabin at a much lower cost! Can be used as a heat source WITHOUT ELECTRICITY! Easy to operate. Easily heats the whole cabin. Possibly only that a fireplace with visible fire would we more visibly attractive. I did buy the fan kit later as well which is definitely needed if you plan to heat more than a single room. Worked great with no issues and kept the whole house warm and toasty. Used 600 gallons of propane that winter, same as my radiant system in later years. I'd recommend this heater to anyone. It takes no electricity and uses outside air. I'm using it to heat a patrol cabin in the hills near mt. Rainier. After using it for nearly ten years, it still does a great job of producing heat. It has developed a bang when it starts and stops, but it may be a problem with the heat chamber, which is covered by a ten year warranty. What a joy to enjoy its warm heat in my Sierra mountain cabin while I watched the snowfall out my large window. That experience to me is the definition of Empire Happiness. It would be better if the blower were on the top part of the unit and directed the heat down toward the bottom.Since it was installed very recently, I am unsure how it will affect the gas bill as of yet. I believe, however, that the thermostat is defective since the heater will not cycle on and off.The safe direct vent exhaust gives me peace of mind.Last year, I had to replace the thermocoupler. Now, at the start of another winter, it appears that the thermocoupler is again broken. Unfortunately, it is not a cheap part since the unit uses the more expensive wired coupler instead of the tube version. It keeps the pipes from freezing at 45 degrees on low, which is a better track record than other heaters which keep pipes from freezing at 60 degrees. We can use ours to dry wet clothes by placing them in front of the blower. Our children enjoy curling up underneath the heater to sleep.Enter your email for new arrivals and special offers. It may be mildew in the unit or in the ductwork. Mildew is quit common, mold is not. No one LEGALLY can tell you it's mold unleased certified by you state or province. Mildew can grow anywhere we have a warm surface that comes in contact with a cold surface. This means uninsulated ductwork, or aged ductwork. So what happens is the draft coming out of the cover is blowing out the match before you get it in the hole. The trick is to get the match or lighter in the hole quickly as possible so the pressure inside the heater will equalize and the match will stay lit. Then you should be able to lite it. Get it inside the hole fast and it will work. Don't forget to put the cover back over the pilot access or the draft may cause the pilot to go back out.Are you resetting any switches. Empire Direct-Direct Fired Vent Wall Furnaces are specifically designed for areas where flues or chimneys are not available or cannot be used. Empire Direct-Vent heaters have removable front panels for easy cleaning and servicing. With a Direct-Vent system, there is a positive difference in fuel economy because outside air is used to support combustion. The air on the inside is warmed as it re-circulates around a sealed chamber. This warm air comfortably heats the room cleanly and efficiently. Empire's Direct-Vent wall furnaces are ideal where existing flues or chimneys cannot be used. Just one hole through an outside wall is all you need. If you must vent, you will receive maximum fuel economy from Direct-Vent heaters. Proper combustion depends upon air flow; therefore, the heater must not be revised, modified or operated with parts removed or missing. Likewise, safety systems must not be circumvented or modified in order to operate the heater. Direct-Fired means that all of the combustion products enter the heated space. Even though this heater operates very close to 100 percent combustion efficiency, it still produces small amounts of carbon monoxide. Carbon monoxide (called CO) is toxic. We can tolerate small amounts but not a lot. CO can build up in a heated space and failure to provide adequate ventilation could result in death. The symptoms of inadequate ventilation are: headache, dizziness, burning eyes and nose, nausea, dry mouth or sore throat. So, be sure to follow advice about ventilation in these operating instructions. Each unit contains an automatic shut-off valve should the pilot light become extinguished. And, Empire's quality control procedures ensure that every heater is a top performer before it goes into your home.
