I have rebuilt the controller pc and got it working. I have now moved onto the machine itself. I tested it with the belt pulled from the motor and then used a push stick to try and stress the motor and it did not make and whine or screech so i am going on the assumption the motor is fine. So far i have the head apart and the bearings pulled. So i have ordered 2 new bearings just in case (32007X) But was wondering what grease to use in it. This machine maxes its RPM out at 3,000 Or if there is a way to inspect the bearings or just clean them. Any advice on what to use to clean out the ballscrew and nuts and then what to lube them with. Also for the ways i was thinking of using Vactra No.2 Way Oil by mobile one. So i am hoping to restore the machine and have a great miniature prototyping mill that does not run on ATF or Bar lube. Or just any advice this is my first time doing much work on a machine like this. I did try to contact EMCO but they told me they had no software for it and no documentation but offered me a retrofit kit for several thousand dollars. When i asked about consumable specs they just never answered me back.Did you get the software running. As for ballscrews there should be oiling nipples for them, regular way oil will do just fine. Emco main office has provided manuals for my 55 concept turn by emailing them. MarkoYes the lube is pricey, but you only need to buy the 50 gram tube. The Bearings DO NOT get Packed, they only get a small Pea size amount which gives a light film. More lube can cause the bearings to overheat. This is what I was told from Emco Maire tech in Austria when I was redoing the spindle in my 340 Turning Center. There used to be some really great, knowledgeable and very helpful people at Emco.and then there was the rest of them.The load on the 55 series is so small and considering it only turns 3000rpm. Basically it will be more problematic on a dc motored mini lathe than a machine with a big 3 phase motor and a transmission, spindle and chuck that probably weighs as much as a mini lathe. This is my first experience with any cnc control. This machine uses G71 for dimensions in mm instead of G21. The manual refers to it as Fanuc 21, but the control panel say GE Fanuc series O. I did some searching and found that the partial list of G and M codes in the manual match the list for Fanuc O-TC I found here I think I tried all the turning posts in Fusion 360 and a few milling posts, and they all either use G21 or callout tool offsets wrong. I couldn't say everything that needs to be changed since I'm trying to make my first CNC part in my life. Anyway right now I'm trying to make a very simple part that is just a straight OD and ID turning and then parting, so I typed it in by hand. I changed the g21 to g71, then at g54 it stopped again so I deleted all the g54s. Also all the lines end with a semicolon. I'm not sure if that needs to be added or if WinNC will do that. So it went all the way through the dry run now, but I need to figure out how to get it to move to a safer location to do tool changes. I'm guessing I need to do that in CAM. N56 M30 It does have the G83 cycle and it looks like the format is correct, but it rapids into the part and back out and then it looks like it's starting the drilling cycle, but it just goes back and forth until I stop the program. Is there a way I can get the cam to just output the longhand version without using the drilling cycles? Emco Siemens is not the same as Siemens. The file must start with o, (o1001.) and it won't accept the.nc extension. It looks like there is an option to change the extension in the post window, but it won't let me change it. Not really big issues, although the extension part is a pain. It appears the high feedrate option will solve my problems with the drilling cycles, but I haven't run that code again. For threading my lathe uses g33 instead of g32, and I just dry ran that. Is there a way I can put a safe tool change position in cam. I've just been adding a G0 Z100 after all of the G28 U0s.This seems like a bug to me. I thought lathes only used G18. We run G28 U0 for every tool change on the lathe. Why Emco did that I don't know. The machine was made for training, so maybe they wanted to train people not to use G28. I assume this is either a bug or an unfinished feature. I'm going to try to replace it myself once I get a better meter. I'm probably going to go the LinuxCNC route, and have already ordered the new control cards. I'm think most people who own similar machines have already converted to LinuxCNC, and I new it was just a matter of time before I would have to.
